The proactive professional infuses decision-making strategies in all aspects of life. Among essential leadership characteristics are strong decision-making skills. By examining why a decision is needed, what the possible options may be, the likely consequences of each option, and the significance of the consequences, the proactive professional can determine what the best decision may be in light of the available information.

Assuming that for every significant encounter an exchange takes place, describe three such encounters in three different cantos between the Pilgrim (narrator) of Dante’s Inferno and another character; then do the same for the encounters between Odysseus and three others, in three different books of Homer’s Odyssey. Who gets more out of the exchange, the Pilgrim of Dante and Odysseus of Homer or the ones they encounter, or do they come out even?
As an example, in Dante, the Pilgrim receives information and education in the ways of sin from each sinner he encounters, so hopefully would be more likely to avoid it, when he returns to earth—facilitating eventually his going to Heaven (being saved) after he dies. Dante hears about the future from the damned too, which they know about—although they don’t know what’s been going on in the world since they died. The sinners receive this ‘news’ from Dante in exchange, and also recognition—a chance to explain their case and also to remind those on earth of their plight in Hell, which they often ask Dante to remember to talk about when he returns. As a matter of fact, since Dante, especially when he’s writing about contemporaries is describing encounters with real people, the very fact we’re reading about them means that Dante fulfilled that wish!
For Odysseus, he receives, first of all Glory from his challenging encounters, for instance with the Cyclops, the Sirens, Circe, even Calypso; sexual favors and other comforts (shelter and food for instance) from the latter two, and help returning home from the inhabitants of Phaeacia, and others. They on the other hand tend to be gratified by observing the laws of Zeus, which require hospitality—the Cyclops states explicitly that as the son of Zeus brother, Poseidon, these laws don’t apply to him. They are happy and flattered to be in his august company, after all he is famous for being key fighter on the winning side of the Trojan War. Here again the Cyclops is an exception—what he gets is a few good meals of Odysseus’ men, obviously not worth the maiming he suffered as a result of the encounter…
