Directions: Analyze selected
scenes/character(s) from Colson Whitehead’s The Nickel Boys and write a third
person, argumentative, literary analysis essay that analyzes a theme and one or
two literary elements that Whitehead employs to deliver his message. As this is
an argumentative essay, you must argue for the purpose of Whitehead’s choices
and the intended message that the reader is supposed to come away with. To
support your argument, your paper must include several short quotes from the
novel and at least one quote from a scholarly article. You must meet the word
count and format the paper in MLA style.

necessarily have to mention the novel but they it does have to be about the
theme in the novel you are exploring. Additionally, the quotes you include from
the article must be smoothly integrated into your argument about the novel and
cannot exceed 3 lines. You must quote in MLA style like so:
