Summary: Plato gives poetry—particularly stories and myths told to young people—to be crucial in forming their characters. His sense seems to be that the kind of art we are saturated with informs our beliefs, our opinions and ultimately determines our characters. For this assignment, you want to test Plato’s hypothesis. Do your own investigation and come to a conclusion about how, and how much, the media we are exposed to influences us.
Important Note: Plato has a few interesting rules on poetry. There a lot of places online (course hero, spraknotes, etc) that will discuss some of his rules. Please understand that because of this, I grade this assignment based on the citations you use from the text, not the rules themselves. You can get the rules right, but if you do not have citations from the text that show your grade will be lower. This is a firm policy. Read this for a better understanding of how to create textual analysis of Plato.
Specifics:
Part I. Plato’s Republic
Read the excerpts from Plato’s Republic and answer the following questions:
What are Socrates rules for poetry?
What does he want to edit out of Homer’s poetry?
What kinds of things does he want to include in the poetry that young people should listen to?
For each rule, explain:
Why Socrates wants to make this rule.
What effects does he think unedited or bad poetry will have on people who read it?
For this analysis, you should include either quotes or citations from the text as evidence of what you are arguing. This is very important. It effects your grade. Example.
Part II. Investigation
Choose a form of contemporary media. Some suggestions are:
Television (Hulu, Netflix).
Twitter.
Tik Tok.
Instagram (including Instagram influencers like the Kardashians).
Facebook.
Advertisement.
Youtubers.
Please note, these should all be public accounts. Do not post from private social media accounts, unless they are your account(s).
Using the internet, research this type of media influence.
Is the media you have chosen successful at influencing people?
Are there studies/documented research indicating whether or not it is successful?
What kind of influence does the media you have chosen have? (For example, do they get people to buy things, to behave in certain ways, to think certain things/have certain beliefs).
Reflect on the influence of media. This should include:
Your personal experience with media influence. Are there times when you have been influenced by media and, if so, when?
Reflection on whether or not media influence is a good or a bad thing. Is it helpful to people? Damaging? Why/why not?
Part II. Presentation
Compose your findings into a presentation that can be analyzed by the class, in a .pdf document. The presentation should be set up as follows:
An introduction. This should be a brief (1/2 page) introduction that explains what all the parts of your analysis will show. This will be your thesis (i.e., in this paper, I will show that Plato is right to think that media is a bad influence on society. I will do that by showing X, Y and Z).
Section I: This is your analysis of Plato’s Republic, your explanation of his rules for poetry, and the reasons why he makes each rule. This section should have the citations or quotations as evidence of what you are arguing. This should be anywhere from 1-2 pages long, double spaced.
Section II. This section is your media section. This should be 2-3 pages long. Each page should have:
An image from one of the media sources above. This image should show the thing you want to address (one example might be a photo of an Instagram influencer selling a product).
Under the photo should be your short explanation of who the person is (if there is someone in the photo), their roles, and what they (or the image) is/are doing. This should not be more than a sentence long.
Under the short explanation, write out your analysis of their influence on people. This can include your own personal experiences with being influenced or resisting influence, or the experience of influence in your own life. This explanation should be anywhere from 100-200 words.
Section IV: Your conclusion. Here, you should answer the following question: Is Plato right to think that media has a bad influence on society? This reflection should be at least 200 words (about a half of a page).

This essay must interpret the introduction of House of Leaves character and depression. Basically how depression being the psychology helps us understand Jonny trant the main character in the introduction.

Writing an “Appreciation”
One of the most important aspects of this class is for students to appreciate individual works of art. This assignment is designed to help you demonstrate your appreciation, and put your appreciation into words.
Keep in mind that because your text takes a broad view of what can be called a work of art, there is a very broad range of works you can appreciate. You can appreciate paintings, drawings, prints, films, graphic designs, digital works of art, installations, sculpture, or buildings.

Step One: Choosing a Work
Choose a work of art that you would like to write an “Appreciation” for. It can be an actual work of art you have in your home, or that you have seen in a museum or gallery. Or, it can be a work of art by any artist – living or dead.
Step Two: Writing your Appreciation
Your written appreciation needs to include all of the following elements:
1) The title and date of the work of art.
2) The name of the artist or artists who created or designed it.
3) The medium (materials and methods)
4) Tell why and how this work of art got your attention
5) Give biographical information about the artist (approx. 100 words) This can be a kind of biographical sketch. Use a scholarly source like a museum or gallery website. If a group (for example and architectural firm) was responsible for the work, provide information about the group.
6) Critique the work using the Feldman’s Method of art criticism (see Module 3)
Step 3: Add an Image (OPTIONAL)
If you know how to download and add an image to your written document, please add an image of the work you have been writing about. Although this is not required, it does help your instructor better evaluate your assignment.

My name is J and I have two children whom are five and 12 years old. As I’m attending this class, I find myself learning what they are learning as well by assisting with their homework. It’s very interesting on how they taught to do math compared to how I did it. Or maybe I just don’t remember if I learned the same way. As far as my knowledge on this topic, I’m not fluent with it. I do hope to learn about this topic and how I can understand how it relates to the company which I work with. Although I work with the government now, I look forward to seeing how the information can be useful with understanding other companies.
The company I chose is Tesla because with the gas prices on a rise and the rise of more electric vehicles, I would like to learn the financial side of it. Right now I only know Tesla for its gas-less cars. The first Tesla I seen was in 2012 in a mall in Colorado. I was curious on how popular it would get and if this was going to be the future of driving. The price tag was really expensive and there weren’t many cars of this brand on the street yet. They have other car companies that are developing their own automotive with renewable energy, and also those that have a mix of battery life and gasoline. I’m interested in seeing how Tesla can convert their knowledge to other sectors would be interesting. The current industry which Tesla operates in is Consumer Durable’s, or in the Automotive and Energy Generation and Storage segments, with mainly operating in the United States market with headquarters in Palo Alto, California. It is a fairly young company who has started in 2003. The company also “develops energy storage products for use in homes, commercial facilities and utility sites.” (Forbes, 2021)

Good day eveyone. My name is G and I recently retired from the Kentucky National Guard and moved to Sarasota, Fl. where I currently work for the City. I am nearing completion of my graduate studies hopefully earning my MBA by the end of September this year. My current knowledge of Finance, well I can’t really say is limited as I have conducted studies through economics but the subject gets lost on me as I just can’t get a good grasp on the subjects. My goal for this course is to gain a greater understanding of the market as the retirement I chose for the City relies on the 401A so understanding how finance plays a role in assetts, equity, etc will be beneficial to me.
Although not as mainstream as the thousands of other companies I could have chosen like Apple, Disney, and Amazon I would like my course project be on Prologis Inc. According to Prologis Inc. it acquires, develops and maintains the largest collection of high quality logistics real estate in the world. With that said the industry they are in is global real estate traded on the stock market. It is part of my top holdings under my investment with American Century Global Real Estate RG Fund in which Is part of my portfolio under my 401A. This company will provide me the ability to research its financial resources while gaining a better understanding of the market and how my 401A works.

In this course, the student will demonstrate knowledge of individual and collaborative writing processes;
Develop ideas with appropriate support and attribution;
Write in a style appropriate to audience and purpose;
Read, reflect, and respond critically to a variety of texts; and
Use Edited American English in academic essays.

Above are the official “student learning outcomes” for this course, what the state of Texas says a student should know at the end of this course. Below, these are connected to three key aspects of this course. For the final exam, students will write a three-part format essay that discusses each aspect. The writing assignment will be described in a moment.

Here are the three aspects, keyed to the above five learning outcomes:
One key aspect of this course, probably the most important one, is learning a reliable writing format—the three-part writing format—which students can use in a variety of writing contexts. This is the way of teaching the “individual writing process” mentioned in #1 above; the writing format also helps to “develop ideas with appropriate support” as mentioned in #2 above; it helps students learn to “write in a style appropriate to audience and purpose” as #3 calls for; and it gives students a format to use when asked to “read, reflect, and respond critically” to any assignment, piece of writing, or brief communication, as #4 calls for. So in one body paragraph of the final exam essay, students will write about how they have responded to learning the three-part writing format used in this course.
Another aspect of this course is what the fifth learning outcome calls for: using standard American English in essays and other writing. In another body paragraph of the final exam essay, students will write about how they have responded to the need to write in a formally correct way, and how they have responded to how this course has focused on and taught this skill.
A third important aspect of this course is teamwork. This is touched on by the #1 item above, in its call for learning about “collaborative writing processes;” it is also touched on in how students have been encouraged to consider the needs of the reader, and this is part of #3 above, in the part that talks about writing “in a style appropriate to audience;” and when #4 four speaks of reading and responding appropriately to “a variety of texts,” it is no great stretch to see that one sort of “text” would be the partial drafts of classmates, in the peer critiques and/or peer viewing (comparing drafts) done. In a third body paragraph of the essay, students will write about how they have responded to the various classmate-focused, collaborative parts of this course, including any less formal help they may have given and received.

To sum up, this final exam essay asks students to reflect on their experiences with three key aspects of this course: learning the three-part writing format, working to improve sentence-level writing skills, and working collaboratively with classmates.
Each student will discuss the three above course aspects in a somewhat brief three-part, five-paragraph essay. In the introduction, the student should list these three things in a preview, probably at the end, and for the thesis, the student will sum up, in one sentence, his/her experience in this course.
Then the student will write a body paragraph on each of the three above aspects. The student may talk about how well the course worked for him/her, but mainly, should talk about his/her own level of engagement and effort in each of these three aspects. In each paragraph, include some specific illustration to nail down the point, so as to do more than merely generalize. The essay should end with a brief concluding paragraph that lists the three aspects again and sums up the thesis.
Students must submit this final exam essay according to the instructions provided in Blackboard.
