Rose is a 32-year-old woman who does LSD on weekends to party. She’s noticed that even in the middle of the week (when she hasn’t done LSD recently), she’ll have flashbacks to previous drug-induced hallucinations. When this occurs at work, she does her best to hide it but it’s been getting more difficult. She’s sure her co-workers notice but she shrugs it off with jokes about being distracted.

The Research Paper – This paper is an opportunity to investigate something that we did not get into with much depth or detail in class, or possibly something that we have not touched on at all. Choose a topic from the field of Interpersonal Communication that you are interested in and would like to know more about. Do some research on your chosen topic, both internet-research and library-research. Based on the reading you do, develop a question that interrogates your topic and then write a paper that responds to that question and relays the research you have done. This paper asks you to engage your critical thinking skills and to be able to articulate your thought process in a well-laid out manner. You will be graded both on the content of what you write and the manner in which you write it; which means that grammar, spelling, and sentence structure count. If I cannot understand what you are saying in the manner in which it is written, I cannot possibly understand the entirety of your message.

The Self-Analysis Reflection – After you have done the research for and written your research paper, assess your own communication skills with respect to the same topic or idea within interpersonal communication. Begin with a thorough self-assessment of your own communication practices in your chosen area. Then write about the positive and negative effects your comm. Practices and behaviors have on your relationships. Finally, finish with thoughts on how you might want to change your communication after having done the research in this area.

Argumentative Essay Assignment
Directions: Write a 5-paragraph argumentative essay on one of the topics below (*note you can also choose your own but follow requirements below). In total, this essay will have an introduction paragraph, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
Your work will be assessed on both essay structure and power of support. While this piece does not require any outside sources, make sure your reasoning is logical and sound. If you choose to include outside sources, make sure they come from credible publications and unbiased news.

Topic:
Essay is in support of decriminalizing drugs.

Some countries have experimented with decriminalizing all drugs in order to control the negative elements of violence and addiction among their citizens. Note: decriminalization is not legalization. Decriminalization can vary from country to country. However, most decriminalization policies allow drug users a maximum two-week supply of a drug, which can be for personal usage in private and never sold to another user. If users abuse these policies (generally by recklessly abusing drugs in public), drugs are generally confiscated and/or the user is fined, but there is no prison sentence or severe blemish to one’s record (again, as long as the user only possesses a small supply and keeps it to themselves). Some argue that this deconstructs the criminal element of the drug trade, while also curbing desperate measures to find drugs. Also, individuals’ records are not tarnished from minor drug offenses. However, the downside is that more individuals may acquire unchecked addictions without the fear of serious consequences. Also, it may become easier to hide from the law, as enforcers may be less invested in drug related activity. Should drugs be de-criminalized in the United States? This means that while law enforcement still maintains some control over usage, individuals who maintain only personal amounts for private use will only be mildly affected, if affected at all.
