You should demonstrate close engagement with one or more of the texts we have read so far, evaluating their claims and arguments they put forward. You will likely need to focus on a few significant passages, but remember to efficiently contextualise those passages within the essay(s) as a whole. You should argue for a clear thesis (and remember: what the paper argues for emerges in relation to what the paper argues with or against). Evidence from the text is important!
Remember: No essay is perfect. The goal for these response papers is to evaluate, discuss or critically engage with some aspect of the authors’ ideas. Evaluation is often obscured by excessive praise or spit for the authors. Thus, avoid panegyric, and avoid adulation. In addition, you need not resolve every ambiguity or paradox in the texts you read. In fact, sometimes identifying a lingering ambiguity in the text can strengthen your own argument.

What ideas did the readings confirm in your mind?

Summary & Response (This essay is worth 200 points):
A summary presents the main and supporting ideas of a text in a way that reduces these statements down to just the bare minimum. Summaries do not focus on the individual details of a text. Summaries focus on the overall, broader ideas being described within a text.
A response focuses on your learning after reading the sources:
1- What new ideas did you learn from the readings? Dedicate one paragraph for each new idea you learned and explain the idea and how it is new to you.
2- What ideas did the readings confirm in your mind? Dedicate one paragraph for each confirmed idea you had and explain this idea.
3- What new vocabulary words did you learn from the readings.
4- Your concluding paragraph will focus on what you want the readers to know about your experience from reading the sources for this essay.
This essay will focus on a summary and response of one of the texts posted on our Moodle site. You may choose only one short text and write a summary and response essay based on that text. This essay must be double spaced typed pages in proper MLA format, and must be 1000 words minimum in length. Please refer to the file posted on our Moodle site for proper MLA formatting guidelines.

Explain how to measure the return on the company investment after applying the key practices and improvement activities.

Please make sure this step is done this time, along with all of the others below: Create bulleted speaking notes for the presentation to the executive board in the Notes section of the PowerPoint.
Overview
This assignment consists of two sections: an improvement plan and a PowerPoint presentation. You must submit the two sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for.
Section 1: Improvement Plan
Suppose you are working as a senior software development manager in a software house. The company develops custom software for clients. In one of the development projects, a postmortem analysis reveals that a particular developer out of a team of five was responsible for the major failure of the developed software product. This has caused the project to run 20 percent behind schedule and exceed its monetary budget by 30 percent. Initial estimates point to an additional 12 weeks from the original 36-week effort to correct the failures. You have been asked by your supervisor to create an improvement plan to address these issues using the People Capability Maturity Model (P-CMM).
Write a 5–6 page paper in which you:
Evaluate the key practices and improvement activities from the people capability maturity model and recommend the practices you would use to address the software failure.
Describe an appropriate strategy for implementing the recommended improvement activities that you have identified.
Explain how to measure the return on the company investment after applying the key practices and improvement activities.
Use at least two quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources.

What is their responsibility to their patients, patients’ families, their own families and themselves?

The aim is for you to address ethical issues that pandemics pose. The obvious place to start from is immediate experience and local news during the 2020-1 COVID pandemic, but there have been many pandemics over the course of human history.
There are growing sources of academic discusison of pandemic ethics, and you should draw on them. See the Pandemic Ethics section of the Useful Links in Medical Ethics page. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q4oS3a8Sw1ghtJl1G9tvTQ5jOUqAmo7xNbyyWtmV8sE/mobilebasic
Your goal is to find issues in medical ethics, but they can also be linked to wider issues. To clarify, it is not really a issue in medical ethics whether you should attend an indoor party without a mask, whether someone visiting a store should wear a mask, whether stores can ban people without masks, or whether there should be state fines for people who don’t wear masks. We are mostly concerned with ethical issues facing health care professionals. What is their responsibility to their patients, patients’ families, their own families and themselves? Who should get treatment first? Who should pay for treatment? Should patients be moved to residential or nursing homes if those places have high rates of COVID infection?
But there are public policy issues that fit well in medical ethics. For example, can the state or employers require people to get a vaccination when a vaccine becomes available?
There are also media ethics and political issues. Should health professionals be involved in protests against government policy, on social media or in front of the media? Should health professionals speculate publically about over reporting or under reporting of the numbers of COVID cases? What are the responsibilities of health professionals when politicians advocate for prevention approaches or treatments that conflict with the generally accepted medical evidence? Should they condemn the politicians or try to stay apolitical?
