This week, you have the task of analyzing the conflict case below titled, The Case of the Hamburger Dilemma. In your evaluation, avoid summarizing the case. Instead, analyze the case critically and assess how it pertains to this week’s readings. Refer to the Guide to a Successful Case Study Analysis for additional guidance. Remember, excellent analyses are a combination of critical and analytical thoughts connected to greater themes presented in the readings – and this is not an easy task.
Be sure to include the following required elements in your assignment:
Briefly describe what you consider two or three major issues contained in the case.
Explain how these points or issues integrate with the material covered this week and explain their relevance to the case.
Identify the implications for the parties involved in the case.
Provide a brief description of the questions/challenges you have regarding the readings and explain why they are important.
Answer the following questions based on your confidence level surrounding conflict at this point in the course:
What are some things you already know about conflict and conflict resolution?
What do you need from this course? (For example: What do you expect to be able to do at the end of this course that you can’t do now?)

The Hamburger Dilemma:
Due to budgetary cuts, Bob and Diane are relocated from their individual offices and forced to share a single office space. One day Diane brings a hamburger for lunch and heats it in the office microwave. When she gets back to her desk, Bob reminds Diane he is a vegetarian for religious reasons and asks her to leave the office to eat her lunch. Diane and Bob have a problematic history, and she is on a deadline for their boss, so she declines Bob’s request. Instead, she leaves her plate on the desk while she runs out to fill her water bottle. Since Diane won’t leave, Bob decides he’s going to leave the office for a while. As he gets up to go, he trips over the cord to Diane’s lamp and falls into her lunch plate, knocking it to the floor. Diane isn’t there to see it was truly an accident and walks in just as Bob is picking her plate up off the floor.
As you are preparing your response, think about the following questions:
What were the roots of the conflict? (Remember the triangle)
How do the parties to the conflict view the behavior of their ‘opponents’ and pursue their own interests in the conflict situation?
At what point did the conflict become detrimental to the parties involved?
How might this conflict extend to the larger workplace if not resolved?
This exercise is less about “getting it right” and more about identifying your own capacity to recognize antecedents, reflect on the way you currently manage conflict and self-identify ways in which you can improve your ability to recognize, diagnose, and resolve conflict in the future.

Scenario
You have recently been hired as an Emergency Services Analyst for the city of Lincolnton, NC. In this role, you are to analyze all emergency services incident patterns, collect statistics, prepare and disseminate information, and assist with special projects. Part 2: Further, the state has offered an additional funding incentive for police departments that are able to meet the standard of having a minimum of 2.5 officers onsite per incident. The Director has delegated the task to you to analyze the police department’s data to determine if the department will be eligible for additional funding. You will use the same source data provided in the Excel spreadsheet. In a Word document, complete the following questions and include the summary from Part 1 in an analysis report.
E. Describe the fit of the linear regression line to the data, providing graphical representations or tables as evidence to support your description.
F. Describe the impact of the outliers on the regression model, providing graphical representations or tables as evidence to support your description.
G. Create a residual plot and explain how to improve the linear regression model based on your interpretation of the plot.
H. Using the linear regression analysis, explain if the department qualifies for additional state funding, including any limitations posed by the available data to the assessment of the department’s current funding eligibility.

As a field of research and practice, global health cuts across many disciplines. Global health partnerships are often viewed as ‘disruptors’ to global health governance and are gaining influence in the ways that global health priorities are set at both local and global scales. However, what do we mean by the two terms – how are they similar and how are they different? Do partnerships really disrupt governance? If we had to pick just one to clearly define the field of global health, which is better? Which term best aligns with the goals of global health (versus international health, for example)? In this call, the editorial board is looking for papers to provide insights and perspectives on this issue. We encourage perspectives with first hand experience working within global health partnerships and governance structures. We also encourage in-depth analysis that offer a historical perspective on the issue of global health governance and partnerships. The main goal of this call is to help encourage discussion around these two very foundational frameworks that enable practitioners to work within the field of global health. By having a collection of opinions, perspectives, and commentaries, we can help to move the field forward in more constructive (rather than de-constructive) ways and to really find an approach to disrupt the systems that prevent us – as a community of global health practitioners – from moving forward.
