Americans consider the United States to be a “Christian nation”
The topic is still debated, but some Americans consider the United States to be a “Christian nation” (even George Washington once wrote thusly). Having now studied the early history of the nation, in what ways do you find the United States to have reflected Christians values, and in what ways do you find that it acted contrary to Christian values?
Architecture History
Using the techniques of analysis and criticality learnt during the semester, you are required to structure your paper as a narrative (historical or fictional) that investigates the way an architectural Ancient Object of your choosing is experienced, thought of, and/or lived in our contemporaneity. In other words, you are asked to create a long history of an Ancient object of your choosing. To build your paper, you are required to do academic research on the Object of your choosing, as well as use secondary sources to anchor your narrative.
– Choose a case study (building, site, fragment, representation, etc) and organize your paper as a history that traces its shifting occupations,
experiences, meanings, and architectural modifications to contextualize the ways in which the case study has been used as a tool in different moments, and for different purposes. You must rely on at least three scholarly sources, which you can implement with the use of newspaper articles, oral histories, and various materials to chart a history of a case study from its inception to the way users have embodied and modified its architectural meaning to serve different purposes.
– You are expected to use images not as self-explanatory pictures, but as sources from which to extract evidence for your argument. You are expected to have at least one evidence made through visual and spatial analysis.
– The paper must be six pages long (images excluded), double spaced, in a 12-point font.
– Research Interest: In one sentence, describe what is the motive behind writing the paper and
choosing the case study. What is the objective? What do you want to accomplish/investigate by
focusing on this case study/theme? What are some possible historical references you might be
using? What geographies and temporalities will you be referring to? Your sentence must respond
to the previous research questions.
– Case Study: Provide a short description of the case study: where it is located; where was it made;
where is it now; etc.
– Image: The objective of the image is to practice analytical skills, and already define either one of
the objects of your paper and/or extracting evidence from visual material. That is to say, in
choosing your image make sure that it helps better frame the context of your Research Interest.
– Term Paper Format of your choosing: Choose something that genuinely interests you and that
you can develop through the format that better fit what you aim at achieving in the class.

Essay Analyzing Images
Please take a look at the Attached PDF file for the resources and detailed information.
For your essay, you will compose a mini-lecture similar to what
the Museum curator. Comparing and contrasting the works of these artists by
focusing on one image from each artist. The essay should go
beyond a simple description of the images. Rather, you are being asked to
analyze using feminist terminology, and a feminist approach,
that is, an approach that seeks to reveal relations of social power and
cultural mores or beliefs that impact how an individual sees himself or
herself.
Choose your pair carefully because the quality of your essay
will depend on it! Think about an important point of comparison. For example:
·
Each artist works in
“the Nude”.
·
The selection of
images you chose from each artist includes at least one portrait of a
transgender individual.
·
One artist deals with
race, the other not (at least in this selection).
·
Both artists feature
“women together” (Are they lesbian? Or, are they not lesbian? How can you tell?
Why does it matter?).
·
Each artist is known
for the “extravagance” of her images.
These are just a few
possibilities. We recommend that you watch the interview/video of each artist
first, and look for common points of interest or approach as they talk about
their work. Whichever two images you choose, be sure that there is enough
“meat” in there for you to develop a coherent, organized argument to compare
and contrast the two

Degas and Modernity
This is a pretty good paper and I think that your discussion of the snapshot like nature and the casualness is really strong and should be the emphasis of the paper but unfortunately at the end of your first paragraph your thesis tells me that you’re going to compare the two paintings the oath and the dance class and talk about them in terms of an interior of a dance studio and really your thesis needs to be about how the dance class is a modern painting showing us a modern way Of looking at the world that is casual and make a snapshot. In other words you need to make the dance class the focus. I would go back to the assignment and I Would look at the thesis that I gave you and maybe just borrow it and then go through and see how you can strengthen your paper given what you say in the thesis you know talk about the snapshot talk about the mirror talk about the advertisement talk about perspective and how the David is very formal and very central and how the dance class isn’t that it’s more casual and of course then also describe what you see in the dance class a little bit more to support those points you are making.
