Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to acquaint you with the way psychologists conduct research and communicate their findings to each other in their respective disciplines. Instructions:
1. Choose a large metropolitan city in the United States (signup sheet/list of cities will be posted before the second week of class) and give a brief history of the state’s criminal justice system in which your city is located.
2. Explain the crime rate over the last 10 years. Has there been a spike in a certain type of crime? What is the rate of property crime? Violent crime? Other crimes?
3. Explain the local law enforcement in your chosen location (state, county, and city) with emphasis on the city. Explain the organization of the city police, such as the operational units and the chain of command. Be sure to discuss what each position do.
