Is “Race” a Valid Biologically Meaningful Concept?
After reading Chapter 5, please discuss, “is race a valid biologically meaningful concept”? What was Franz Boas’ contribution to discrediting “race” as a means for understanding human biological variation? What was Richard Lewontin’s contribution? Primate Diversity
After reading Chapter 6 please discuss the following: according to Wilfrid Le Gros Clark, what are the three main characteristics that all primates share? Describe in detail at least two arboreal adaptations among primates not shared by other mammals. Finally, looking over the four main categories of primates listed in Figure 6.1 (p. 134) what are at least two traits that are unique to each of the four groups? In other words what are two traits only shared among prosimians, only two that are shared among New World monkeys, only two that are shared among Old World monkeys, and only two that are shared among apes?

Hoyas Investments is a startup investment fund developed by several successful, high net worth Georgetown alumnus. Hoyas can take more risks than traditional institutional investors and is, therefore, looking for higher and faster returns. You are responding to a Request for Proposals from their real estate fund manager to place $100 million in real estate investments. The RFP specifies that $80 million should be placed in relatively safe, top-tier markets and that $20 million should be placed in an emerging market with a focus on social responsibility as well as higher returns.

Executive Summary – No more than 500 words making a compelling case for your choice of places to invest.
Detailed Descriiptions of the Investments – Which cities and what sectors, i.e. residential, office, retail, hospitality, industrial, logistics or land.
Market Analysis – A real estate market analysis for your specific cities and property types including past returns for the last 5 years and forecast for the next 3-to-5 years.
Investment Strengths and Risks – Why these cities over others? What are the greatest risks for performance over the next 5 years in these cities and with these property types?
Performance – IRR over 10 years for the $80 million, 3-to-5 years for the $20 million.
Exit Strategy – When do you plan to sell the investments, and what are the tax consequences and risks associated with repatriating the capital from overseas investments?
Your final project is expected to be of high quality and submitted in the proper format. It will be considered for writing, content, and professional appearance including the use of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and structure.

Locate a recent scientific research article on a topic that is of interest to you. The topic must be social work related, (Not a biological or medical study).

The article should be based on an original quantitative study, rather than a meta-analysis or literature review.

Complete the attached form by providing the information that is identified in each of the headings. The information should be typed using single spacing. Adjust the font so that all of the information will fit on one page.

As shown on the form, most of the page should be used to summarize the major findings of the study and the implications of the findings for social work practice. Please make sure to present this information in your own words.

Sample: Describe the types of people who participated in the study, the overall sample for the study and provide any relevant figures for subgroups in the sample.

Methods: In this section, identify the type of research design that was used (Experiment, survey, etc), the measures that were used, and the statistical procedures that were used.

Research Article Summary

Kinesiology career areas should benefit their clients. Techniques used by the professionals should have evidence that they actually work. That evidence normally comes from experimentation and publication of the results in peer reviewed journals. Your assignment is to find and summarize 2 research articles in a specific fashion. Along with providing you with information, learning the process will be useful in your academic future. Remember that two summaries and the two articles will need to be submitted.

The choice of topics for the research article summaries will be up to the student. The articles should provide evidence of the outcome of some process or service provided by the career area in which the student wishes to work. Each article can only be used by one student. Please do not share your research articles with others in the class. If articles are duplicated, students will share the same points between them. Search for new articles, not ones used for a different class. Submitting work from a different class is a form of academic dishonesty.

A copy of the full article must accompany the summaries to receive full credit. Completion of the assignment based on just an abstract will receive no credit. The article should be peer reviewed original experimental research. It should not be a published document where someone writes about someone else’s research. That’s what you are supposed to do. Your source needs to be firsthand or what is called a primary resource. If it does not have a methods section is not likely experimental.

Follow these instructions completely for full credit. Check the rubric for scoring details:

1) Find and download a research article related to techniques, processes, or outcomes that occur in the career in which you wish to work. Many should be evident at your internship site. The published research is essentially evidence of the usefulness of the work done in the career area.

This week our readings taught us how to make great images and to write highly conscious, compressed prose. The Exercise for the week is to write a 1000-word piece of flash fiction (you can respond creatively to / emulate one of the readings, or borrow the opening line of one of the pieces, or come up with something entirely new, perhaps stemming from that great escalation generative writing exercise in the lecture) that you then cut down to 500 words, then 250 words. Be attentive to the imagery work our craft authors are outlining for us this week. A great flash piece can start with an image, end with an image, or (most often) rely on an image that it changes its relationship to over the course of the piece, as we see in the Saunders short story, with the pole. Include all three versions in this order in your post:

You will have a chance to expand later, and concision is a real virtue in Sudden Prose!
