Each individual student will write a 4-page essay over the topic and the country they have picked discussing the environmental issues, technology transfer and appropriate technology of that topic. The topic I choose is space exploration in France. The essay will explore environmental issues, technology transfer, and appropriate technology within their country.

Research Paper Guidelines:
It must follow accepted APA guidelines. If you are unsure of what is expected, I suggest that you go to the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) for guidelines on references and formatting. Here are links to a sample APA Research Papers that you can use as a reference:

Papers should also meet the guidelines stated in the syllabus. These are:
· The paper must be typed using 12 pt font, with 1 inch margins, double spaced using Arial or Times New Roman.
· The header will be located on the first page; it will be left justified beginning on line one. The header will include the title of the paper and page number.
· Correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling, are a must.
· Whenever the content involves a list of any kind, bullets should be used, unless a rank order is needed and then numbered items will be used. (Use the bulleting and numbering tool available in your word processor).
· The body or text of this paper will be no less than four pages in length, excluding photos, the cover page, and the reference page.
· The paper will have no fewer than five correctly cited references. References should be journal or educational references. Stay away from .com as must as possible.
· Technological topics for the research papers can readily be found in a variety of publications. Just a few examples include the textbook, magazines, newspapers, the Internet, and books.
· No abstract required.
· All assignments to be submitted through SafeAssign.

Presentation Guidelines:
· Each student must participate in the presentation.
· There should be audio or video with audio (YouTube link would be best) for each student with their section of the presentation. (online version only, in-person will be presented in-person.)
· To use YouTube to create video of the presentation, student will need to have an account to create their video. Please make it private unless you want it shared with the world.
· The presentation should be attention grabbing as well as informative. Not just a bunch of words on a slide.
· The presentation should have three countries covering a single chapter topic with the discussion of environmental issues, technology transfer and appropriate technology.
· No slide requirement. Enough slides to cover the topic but do not make the slides too crowded.
· The presentation should have a reference slide to site the sources of information.
· The presentation should look and sound professional.
· Suggestion to use Google Slides to help with working as a group with distance. (Online sections)
· Submit as a PowerPoint presentation for me to grade in Blackboard.
· Presentation should be 10-15 mins in length. (timer for the whole presentation)

Your analysis should be 2 to 3 pages long, 400 to 600 words, double spaced.
It should follow the MLA format. Since you have only one source, you won’t need to cite that source. You will mention it in the introduction. Do not create a separate cover page.
Your introduction to the essay can be straightforward. Simply address the following components: Identify the following components for the novel you are analyzing: title, author, type of argument, line of argument, intended audience, thesis.
Do not refer to outside sources.
Do not argue with the writer.
Do not merely summarize the essay.
Analyze the way the writer is trying to get their point across to a specific audience.
You must provide at least three quotations from the text. In each of your body paragraphs, analyze one of the quotations.
Devise an original title for your analysis.

Begin with a summary of the keyword in the Oxford English Dictionary. If you quote directly, remember to place all quotations in quotation marks. For example, the term hipster is defined in the O.E.D. to refer both to a garment worn on the hips and a person during the prohibition era who carries a flask of alcohol on their hip. These early usages have given way to a third denotative meaning that we come to associate the term with today. According to the O.E.D., hipster is now often used to refer to “A person who is, or purports to be, hip; one who is aware, well informed, or in the know, especially with regard to jazz music and culture; a hepcat” (“hipster”). This paper will focus primarily on the third definition as it pertains to characterization.
Quote the passage you have chosen from the text here. Remember to reproduce it here as accurately as possible and place the quoted material between quotation marks. If there is dialogue within the passage, then place this dialogue within single quotes, i.e. ‘dialogue here’, to distinguish it from the larger chunk of text quoted. Remember to include the author’s surname and page number at the end of the passage like this: (Fitzgerald 42).
Open your paragraph with a main claim, a thesis statement, that communicates how you plan to apply the keyword to read the passage and what larger theme is at stake (review lecture material on thesis statements). Then proceed to analyse smaller quotes within the passage that you have chosen. Quote smaller sections the passage you have chosen often. Read it carefully. Remember to place all quoted material inside quotation marks. Do not quote outside of the one passage you have indicated above. Remember, your goal is to account for one passage in detail and not to summarize the entire story. Why has the author chosen certain words in this passage? What pattern are you tracking in your discussion? Imagery? Characterization? Metaphor? Irony? Satire? How does this reading the patterns of representation in this passage—i.e. word choice—provide insights necessary to understand one larger theme in the story? Write between 300-350 words. Include a Works Cited list on the next page (see below).

Negotiation Styles
We negotiate multiple times every day in encounters with others. Negotiation occurs when two or more parties have conflicting goals or interests.
Reflect on the past week and identify an instance where you negotiated with someone—at home, at work, or anytime you had contact with another person. For the first paragraph of your initial post, describe the negotiation event, including the participants, the key issues, and the outcome.
For the second part of your initial post, evaluate one of the following starter bullet points, using research on course concepts to inform your analysis:
Negotiators tend to have consistent styles. How would you assess your style in the negotiation? How would you assess the style of the other party? How might your style have been different had you been negotiating the same issue with a different person?
Was your negotiation an example of distributive negotiation or integrative negotiation? Was each party engaged in the negotiation using the same approach? What behaviors existed that demonstrated the approach? What advantages or disadvantages might have emerged if a different approach (distributive versus integrative) had been used?
What other outcome alternatives might have been possible, and how might they have influenced the actual outcome? How did the parties determine what other alternatives exist? How did the parties determine which alternative to use?
How might each party assess the outcome of the negotiation? Does each party view it as successful? What is the basis for evaluating how parties view the outcome? What did each party do to achieve success in the negotiation?
Negotiations have a reputation for being secretive actions with overtones of espionage, mistrust, and strategizing. What are the positives and negatives of sharing your strategies or your desired point of settlement with the other person in a negotiation? How did the level of secrecy or sharing impact the negotiation process and outcome in your example? What behaviors demonstrated the level of secrecy and sharing that existed?
The desired outcome in a negotiation is to achieve the goal you want. What can opposing parties in a negotiation do to identify their common points and minimize their differences? Analyze how your negotiation example might have had a better-negotiated outcome if common points had been enhanced and differences minimized during the negotiation.
Note: Select a different bullet point than what your classmates have already posted so that we can engage in several discussions on relevant topics. If all of the bullet points have been addressed, then you may begin to reuse the bullet points with the expectation that varied responses continue.
Conclude your posting with a summary paragraph that synthesizes one or two key issues or points of your initial post.

For this Assessment, you will create an academic, formal essay advocating a solution to a problem you have identified in your community or workplace. Using the persuasive, problem-solving thesis statement you developed for the second competency assessment is recommended, but you may develop another if you prefer.
In this essay of approximately 1000 words, you will integrate evidence from at least four credible sources to support the argument for change that you are advocating. In addition to having at least three supporting points for your thesis, you will also need to address a challenge to your argument within the essay, as the ability to do so is a key component of a strong argument. The essay should use a formal, academic style with clear, concise sentences, and effective transitions should be used to ensure cohesiveness. The essay should be formatted in APA style, with a separate title and references page and in-text citations.
