analysis from lovecraft

Remember the first essay is due February 15th. The essay should be approximately 750 words in length, and it should be typed and double spaced. Use formal essay structure (introduction, body, and conclusion). Also, the essay must be in twelve-point size and Times New Roman font. Remember to provide a heading (student name, professor name, course, date) in the upper left corner. A title must be in the center just above the introduction. And each page number should be preceded by your last name in the upper right corner.

The essay should be an analysis of some aspect of episodes one through three of Lovecraft Country.

You are required to find and incorporate two secondary research sources for this assignment (and at least one of them must be from an academic database), and to cite your sources (both with in-text citations and with a works cited page). Follow MLA guidelines. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, and social media do not count toward the research credit, and Wikipedia is a banned source.

Be sure to submit your essay to the appropriate folder in Assignments on D2L.

SUGGESTED TOPICS:
Leticia “Leti” Lewis undergoes tremendous growth over the course of the first three episodes. How is she shaped by her experiences and the people in her life?

How does the show’s soundtrack enhance the story? Reference and analyze examples from one episode.

In H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu,” knowledge is portrayed as a dangerous activity that results in the deaths of all who pursue information about the cults who worship the ancient monster. How might you contrast this with how Lovecraft Country depicts the pursuit of knowledge?

Analyze the significance of the visions that Tic, George, and Leti face at the Braithwhite mansion in episode two.

How does our main characters’ knowledge of art and culture help them survive the dangers they face?

How might the supernatural monsters in the first three episodes represent real-life horrors?

English Poetry Research Poem

1. Choose a poem from the list provided to you.
2. Annotate the poem. Look carefully and deeply at the nuances of word choice,
connotative meanings, poetic devices, structure on the page, etc.
3. Consider how the poem relates to a social justice movement/issue.
4. Do research. Find out information pertaining to the poem’s author, the social justice
movement/issue it relates to, the social/historical implications, etc. Determine what
information applies to the understanding of this particular poem. Determine where you
might decide to utilize it in your analysis. [I am grading you as much on what you decide
to exclude as much as on what you include. Make smart choices in terms of necessity.]
5. **Analyze the poem. Be sure to include at least 4-5 in-text references that come
directly from the poem. These may be line quotes, word choices, or an explanation of a
literary device or structural choices. As you analyze, be sure you are focusing on
interpretation, not summary. Think about connotative meanings as you do so.
6. **Come to a conclusion about theme and how the poem did [or did not] impact society.
In other words, why should I care about this poem? What should drive me to go out and
read it right now?

Free Will vs. Determinism

So this paper is about Free Will vs. Determinism
It would be perfect if you write the paper on the determinism side, cause i’m more on that side in my previous paper. I also add my paper on the determinism side so you can have an idea about what i’m into
So my paper is due on March 2, so you will have plenty of time to do it. But if you can finish it before 3-4 days it would be nice cause i have more time to add my idea into the paper

The requirement for the paper is below there.
Introduction to Philosophy Paper 1: Free Will vs. Determinism
We have read 2 authors that have taken a positive stand in the debate of Free Will vs. Determinism. Campbell argued for a position of libertarianism and D’Holbach argued for the position of determinism.
Your task: In 2-3 pages (11 pt font; Double Spaced) take a stand on this issue by attacking one of these authors.
Your job is to reveal some problem with the position one of these authors present, i.e. you are to argue against libertarianism or determinism, as they are presented by these authors. If this means you agree with the opposing author, then you may use them to bolster your position, but you need not if you disagree with both.
Things to remember:
-You can disagree with an argument, but agree with their conclusion.
-You need not endorse libertarianism or determinism to reveal a problem with one of the above authors.
-If you are unsympathetic with both positions, then you will likely disagree with some or all of the above authors.
-Keep things narrow and tempered. It is more feasible to show a flaw in a part of someone’s argument than to try and claim that one’s entire position is misguided.
You are giving your opinion, but not a mere opinion. You should be presenting your well-informed, well-supported, justified and intelligent opinion.
1. You must cite the original text and one of the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy articles.
2. You must use the text to support your ideas.
3. You must have a thesis.
4. You must address all of the parts of the format below.
All references to the text should be cited according to MLA formatting. Please use this resource for instructions Purdue MLA
Please confine yourself to citing the original text and the Internet Encyclopedia Articles.
Format:
Introduction:
-State the conflict between determinism and libertarianism.
-State your thesis/position
-Give a roadmap of how your paper will proceed.
State the position you intend to attack:
-Give a summary of the position that you disagree with. (Be sure to do this before attacking the position.)
Your critique/argument:
-Pick one or two specific things about the position of your opponent
-State how it is problematic
[Examples: Determinism is often critiqued on the basis that it has difficulty dealing with moral concepts and subjective attitudes (such as responsibility), which are central to our lives. Libertarians are often criticized for making actions look mysterious and incompatible with our modern scientific outlook.]
Conclusion:
-Restate your thesis and how you came to arrive at it.

Examine CISA’s strategic planning requirements and priorities as it pertains to infusing emerging technologies.
Assess the purpose and value of the CISA Strategic Technology Roadmap in CISA’s strategic plan for future growth.
Explain how community engagement and communal preparation can lead to establishing emerging technology in the CISA strategic plan to build a more secure and resilient infrastructure.
Determine the gaps and best practices in CISA’s planning the infusion of new technologies.
Assess if CISA’s strategic planning process is effective in managing and infusing new technologies to strengthen critical infrastructure and address long-term risks; make any recommendations to improve the process.

Quantitative and Empirical Reasoning

Remember the Hardy Weinberg equation from class:
• p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1
• p + q = 1, where p is the frequency of the dominant allele and q is the frequency of the recessive allele.
Please make sure you show ALL of your work neatly and legible. Because this assignment is assessing quantitative reasoning, please show step by step how you solved each problem; include even the simplest of steps.
· All answers should be rounded to the nearest hundredth.

In the 1960s, a population of squirrels (Sciurus carolensis) was being studied in Alabama and the coat color of the
squirrels was found to range from the more common gray color (dominant) to the less common red color (recessive).
When scientists sampled an area, they found 1,761 gray squirrels and 699 red squirrels. Assuming the population is
at Hardy Weinberg’s equilibrium, answer the following questions:

1. what is the frequency
of the homozygous recessive individuals?

2.Based on the same
scenario, what is the allele frequency of the dominant allele in the
population?

3. Of the total squirrels observed, how many were heterozygous
based on the scenario 1?

Community Policing and Crime Reduction

1. Define and explain community policing as it is currently practiced in the U.S.
2. From your review of the U.S. Department of Justice Investigation of the Ferguson Police Department – 4 MARCH 2015:

b. What steps can communities take to make community policing a successful strategy for law enforcement?
Support your argument with the Department of Justice Report and at least one additional outside reference.
