Directions
Read Chapter 2 in your textbook and watch the “The Biology of Our Best and Worst Srlves” TED Talk.
Now write a short essay that addresses each of the following questions:
1. What are two key ideas/concepts from the video that are important for the world? Explain those
ideas/concepts and why they are important.
2. What are two ideas/concepts from the reading that are critical in understanding human behavior?
3. How would these concepts found in the reading be useful in explaining/expounding upon the ideas/concepts
from the video?
The essay should be a minimum of 1,000 words in length (not including the bibliography), single-spaced,
in 12-point Times New Roman font (including the essay title), and with 1-inch margins. Cite all reference
to external sources, including your textbook. If you cite a passage word-for-word, be sure you put the
passage in quotation marks and cite page numbers. You can use whichever citation style you like or are

Movement (R)evolution Africa
I had lots of prompts written up as I watched this first half of this film. But as I finished it, I found my prompts were not helpful to a true reflection. The assignment will be simple. Read chapter 18 (really read it), then watch the film, and reflect in at least 800 words. The complexity of this art form, movement in the simplest terms, is unpacked.
This might sound daunting. I know it’s easier to watch the film listening for the answers to my prompts. So here are some things to think about as you watch:
• What is NEW information to you? What about this film have you never experienced? It is dance in general? Is it African people and their ideas? Is it the French language or reading subtitles?
• How does this film make you feel? Elated? Uncomfortable? Awestruck? Sad? Hopeful? These are all things I felt throughout viewing, btw.
• How does the textbook help you unpack what isdepicted through the dance?
Take notes as you watch, what are you thinking about? What shocks you? What/who do you experience connections with? What are people’s names and their home countries?
Also remember these instructions, which are the same as reflection 1:
• Two-page minimum length (800 words), 12 point font, Times New Roman, double space, 1 inch margins (USE THE TEMPLATE)
• Include proper APA citations. Below is the format for the reference page
o The story of women and art: Episode 1 [Video file]. (2014). Retrieved m/d/y, from https://fod.infobase.com/PortalPlaylists.aspx?wID=103028&xtid=86588
• Use Formal writing technique, you will be graded on grammar and syntax.
Avoid the following words: “like,” really,” “very,” “good,” “bad,” “big,” “small,” “you,” “your.” There are many wonderful words in the English language; enjoy using precise language.
• When citing the video, be sure to take note of the time mark.
Example: At the 13:00 mark in Lascaux: The Prehistory of Art, the narrator discusses the Chamber of Felines.
• Be sure to properly use quotation marks, and utilize a time mark.
Example: The narrator says (13:30), “There is a bison, a cross, three lines, and three pairs of aligned spots.”
• Submit the word document to Moodle for grading. Do not email it to Professor Ott unless Moodle site is down during time of submission.
• Actively take notes while watching the videos.
• *WARNING: At times, these videos discuss art that depicts nudity, violence, and vulgarity.

Maria full of grace (movie) essay
Write a three page paper, not counting the cover page and the reference page, giving me an overview of the movie and critiquing it as to what message you think the author is sending, and what is your opinion about that message. Are you sympathetic with this young woman or not? In either case, why? How does her actions in this movie effect her and the entire U.S.? What might be alternatives to her actions and how are we, as a sovereign country, to deal with people who commit these actions?
Also, in the beginning, tell me how the dealer and his crew drew her into their world and what were the consequences for her and for others with her on this run? It will be important that you do not give me a book or movie report. I’ve seen it. Tell me what you think and how the situation should be dealth with. Remember to do some research to back up your conclusions and include the resources in your references.

Analysis over the game spent
Goal:
Ultimately, you should be able to talk about the mechanics of creating an argument and be able to point to specific examples. Additionally, you should be able to discuss how your positionality impacts why you find these arguments persuasive (or not).
Mode:
Written analysis (around 1,000 words)
*Can include pictures, but they need to be cited and have a purpose in your paper.
Why are we doing this?
First of all: there are a couple of different reasons why it is important to understand how to do this analysis:
This process will help you understand how to craft your own arguments later in our course (and later in your life).
It will help you develop your understanding of your own positionality and how it impacts your experience with arguments.
Additionally, think of this as a test run or scavenger hunt to find the mechanics of the argument. We are not focusing on creating our own arguments here, but instead, we are highlighting the actual mechanics. So, use this assignment to learn how the different elements work and how/why they are effective. You will take this knowledge and use it to understand viewpoints and context in Project 2 and to create your own arguments in Project 3.

Technology
will change our lives in the future! This is a joint statement made by most
people who feel that the rapid development and progression of technology have
impacted daily life. Nicholas Carr explains similar sentiments in his article
“Is Google Making us Stupid?” the analysis of the presentation with a
focus on the key ideas and policies developed is vital in synthesizing the
argument with the reasons behind it. The study covers the major points in
discussion with a review of the rhetoric appeals developed from it. This makes
it easy to determine the author’s success in front of the discussion points.
Carr
develops the argument by relying on a crucial rhetoric appeal. He adopts the
use of logos as a way of explaining his point. The appeal is created on the
need to focus on the logical reasoning and developments of the situation (Higgins
& Walker, 2012). It is a necessary form of review which allows the audience
to understand the cognitive features and functions in the argument, thus, efficiently
achieving responsible insights. He uses rhetoric to explain his thesis and
provides evidence that backs up the claims. By doing so, he allows the audience
to ponder on the severity of the situation with a focus on the best and most
effective ways which can be used to fully achieve success within the change. He
further expounds on the issue by providing examples of his own experiences
before and after the introduction of the internet. The appeal is an important
feature that helps the article to gain ground and be understood by the target
audience.
The
author’s reliance on the rhetoric appeal is practical and speaks to the
article’s contents. It is an effective way of explaining the fundamental
problems with the internet and how it has impacted daily lives. However, in the
development of the thesis and the evidence, it was essential to also focus on
the appeals to the audience’s emotions and general sympathetic imaginations.
The appeal is known as pathos and is used to reiterate the logical nature of the
argument (Davoudi et al. 2020). The view is that the evidence on the negative
impacts of Google can be best explained on a moral basis. Therefore, it becomes
essential to use pathos and work on ensuring that the best argumentative
structures are based upon when crafting the study. Also, it further opens the
reviews to accommodate other external evidence, which can point to the negative
adaptations of the internet.
The
article’s style, tone, and language support the extensive measures in the
author’s arguments. The author takes an authoritative manner that integrates
the divergent views and enhanced focused measures, which improve the study
perspective over time. Also, the author references reputable sources, which are
used to reiterate the nature of the discussion and the impacts seen in the
appeal. For instance, the author quotes sociologist Daniel Bell when explaining
the issue (Carr, 2008). They are also in tandem with the predominant rhetorical
appeal in the discussion frame.
The
article is effective in the explanation of the points and associative
mechanisms for future analysis. The author relies on rhetoric appeals to
explain the adverse effects of the internet. However, more could have been done
with the reliance on susceptible improvements and more responsible measures to
explain the nature and impacts of the problems.

Bacterial and Viral Infections
This week you have learned about the key factors in preventing the spread of infection, the differences in bacterial and viral infections, the importance on the correct use of antibiotics, and the role of the healthcare professional in these scenarios.
For the assignment this week you will write a 1500-1750 word essay that addresses the following prompts:
Reflect on the impact the healthcare professional has on preventing healthcare associated infections (HAIs). Discuss the standard precaution guidelines that should be followed for infection control and prevention.
Describe three ways an infection might spread within a community setting. How could these infections be slowed or stopped?
Explain how the environment impacts the growth and spread of microbes. How can environments be controlled or altered to decrease the growth of microbes? Include at least three elements of the environment that can be controlled. Why is this important in preventing HAIs?
If a patient presents with cold/flu-like symptoms, what precautions should you take to prevent the spread? For this patient, the lab work determines a viral infection. The patient is adamant they are in need of antibiotic treatment. Explain how you would respond to this patient’s request.
