Digital Forensics and Investigative Challenges

In the final project in this course, you researched a course-related topic of interest to you and will write a research paper on it. The project is an opportunity for you to personalize the concepts you are learning in this course. In Module 4, you developed an outline for your research paper. In this module, write a draft of the research paper. You will have the opportunity to revise the draft before you submit the final paper in Module 8.

Before you start writing the final paper draft, review the final paper guidelines below. Review the outline you created in Module 4 in the light of the research you have done since and the material you have assembled for your paper. Make sure the ideas develop logically and revise the outline where necessary.

Using the outline as a guide, compile the material you gathered into the final paper. Write the information and arguments in your own words. Anything you quote must be cited using appropriate APA guidelines. Make sure in-text citations are in place as you do this. Add headings and subheadings that express the organization of your paper. If you have used any tables and figures, write titles and numbers and check that the references in the text correlate with these titles and numbers.

Write your research paper draft in 12 pages in a Word document. Submit the document to the assignment dropbox.

See the Course Calendar for the due date.

Final Paper Guidelines:

You must follow the format below for your Final Research Project report:
Final paper cannot have no more than 25% similarity index as reported by Turn-it-in. There are many tools, and the Excelsior College Online library and writing tools can assist in reducing a high similarity index above 25%.
Title: The title is a concise statement of the subject of the paper.
Abstract: The abstract is an “executive overview” of your paper. It should be a 50–100 word summary that would be appropriate to give your manager so that he/she would know the essence of your project without reading the paper in its entirety.
Table of Contents: In this section, list each section of your paper, with the page number. The list should include:
Tables and figures, if you included more than two
Appendices, if included
Bibliography or reference section listing sources used and including links to online content
Introduction: In this section, state the purpose of the paper in succinct, declarative sentences. Convince your reader that the study will have practical value and meaning for you and will be based on the concepts studied in the course.
Background and Significance: This section provides further justification of the need for your study. If your project examines a topic drawn from your work, you should include a description of your work environment, your position in the organization and how your position fits into the organization, both vertically and horizontally.
Explain the applicable concepts from the course. If your project is focused on a particular organization, explain how these concepts apply to that organization. What is the organization doing well? Would it benefit by adopting some of the concepts you have been studying?
Discussion, Implications, and Recommendations: In this section, you should provide a thorough discussion of your findings and the implications of your study.
Be sure to include only the pertinent implications.
References: You cannot use only your textbooks as your primary source of information. You must draw on other sources such as websites, business journals, legal and compliance journals, government agencies, professional associations, and industry standards.
Be sure that you support the information you present with appropriate references. It is important that all references and quotes are correctly cited. All sources, including websites, must be referenced in the Bibliography or References list. You must follow an accepted authority for style and form (e.g., APA style).
If you have questions about the format or content of references, discuss it with your tutor.
Format: Keep in mind that all accepted rules of English composition apply. Papers must be word-processed, double spaced, and have standard margins (1 inch on each side).
Length: The length of the paper, excluding cover page, table of contents and abstract and references, is 12 pages.
Compose your work in a .doc or .docx file type using a word processor (such as Microsoft Word, etc.) and save it frequently to your computer. For those assignments that are not written essays and require uploading images or PowerPoint slides, please follow uploading guidelines provided by your instructor.
Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. When you are ready to submit your work, click “Upload Submission.” Enter the submission title and then click on “Select a file to upload.” Browse your computer, and select your file. Click “Open” and verify the correct file name has appeared next to Submission File. Click on “Continue.” Confirm submission is correct and then click on “Accept Submission & Save.”
Turnitin®:
This course has Turnitin® fully integrated into the course dropbox. This means that you should only submit your assignments to the dropbox below. Please do not submit your assignment directly to Turnitin.com.
Once submitted, your assignment will be evaluated by Turnitin® automatically. You will be able to view an Originality Report within minutes of your first submission that will show how much of your work has been identified as similar to other sources such as websites, textbooks, or other student papers. Use your Originality Report as a learning tool to identify areas of your assignment that you may not have cited appropriately. You may resubmit your assignment through this dropbox as many times as you need to check to see if you have made improvements, until the due date of the assignment. However, once you have made your first submission, you will need to wait 24 hours after each subsequent submission to receive a new Originality Report. Plan accordingly as you draft your assignment. Once the due date has passed, your assignment submission will be considered final.
Evaluation:
This assignment will be graded using the SBT Research Paper Rubric located on the Course Rubrics page within the Start Here section of the course. Please review the rubric prior to beginning your work so that you ensure your submission meets the criteria in place for this assignment. This milestone assignment makes up 5% of the total course grade, which is a part of the 40% grade for the final project.

. Do you see a coherent intellectual progression on Huxley’s part as he moves from condemning soma to advocating therapy with mescaline? If so, explain the logic of Huxley’s journey. If not, explain the error of Huxley’s ways.

-Papers should be typed, double spaced.
–Be sure to ground your observations and assertions with specific references to texts and/or events.
–You are not required to do outside reading beyond what this assignment specifies. All of the topics listed below can be addressed by reference to readings on the syllabus. (In a couple of the topics listed below, I direct you to a supplementary reading or film by providing a url.) Avoid using other outside sources. If you feel a pressing need to use an outside source, then you must discuss it with me.
–Wherever you quote the words — or draw on the ideas — of an author, you must cite that author. (This of course means that papers must have a bibliography or Works Cited list attached.) Use MLA citation style. The basics of MLA style are covered here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/02/.
–In terms of paper format: don’t have a separate title page. In the upper left corner of the first page, have a heading that lists the following:
Your name
The course title
The instructor’s name
The date

Write about 500 words each on two of the topics listed below.

e. Reread Ursula Leguin’s very short story “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas,” found here: https://www.utilitarianism.com/nu/omelas.pdf Consider the ethical implications of the way the society of Omelas is structured. How does the society of Omelas look from a utilitarian ethical perspective? How does it look from a Kantian ethical perspective? (Note: For background on Kant, review Westacott, “Kantian Ethics ins Nutshell”; also, reread pp. 51-52 in Appleyard, “Eugenics 1: the Right to be Unhappy”.) What is the significance of someone walking away from Omelas?

f: Bearing in mind the role that soma plays in the World State, and John’s (which is to say Huxley’s) critique of it as toxic, consider Huxley’s later advocacy of psychedelic drugs (as recounted in Stevens, “Intuition and Intellect”). Do you see a coherent intellectual progression on Huxley’s part as he moves from condemning soma to advocating therapy with mescaline? If so, explain the logic of Huxley’s journey. If not, explain the error of Huxley’s ways. If you think we find a blend of good and bad ideas in Huxley’s career of writing about and promoting the supervised use of psychedelic drugs, then explain that. Factor into your discussion the findings summarized in this 2012 article from Scientific American — “Do Psychedelics Expand the Mind by Reducing Brain Activity?”, found at https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/do-psychedelics-expand-mind-reducing-brain-activity/.

Law School – Contracts Law Mini Thesis Paper

Contracts Midterm Mini Thesis Paper
The midterm mini thesis paper is a research or thesis paper on a topic of the student’s choice, so long as it is related to contracts law. The paper must be no fewer than 3,000 words and no more than 5,000 words. The word count does not include footnote or endnote references.
Students may use the casebook, statutory supplements, material acquired from research at a law library or through LexisNexis, any material provided by the school, commercial outlines, etc. All situations and events described in the paper must be assumed to take place or to have taken place in an English common law jurisdiction in the United States. Any details that are part of an actual lawsuit or legal dispute should not be included in the paper if they are in any way considered confidential.
The paper must be an original product of the student’s own scholarly work. The sources of any non-original wording must be accurately disclosed and properly referenced. Evidence of originality will be wording that shows that a student is thinking about the legal issues covered in the course; is sufficiently familiar with legal concepts and doctrines of the subject; and is expressing his or her own thoughts and ideas about the sources cited in the paper.
Midterm mini thesis papers are routinely run through a plagiarism-checking program. While it is expected that students will quote material from other sources, a good rule of thumb is that the paper should consist of no more than 10-20% from other sources, with at least 80-90% being the student’s own words.
The most common reasons students fail the assignment are: 1) plagiarism; and 2) not meeting the 3,000-5,000 word count requirement.

Topic Ideas for the Midterm Mini Thesis Paper

Students may choose one of the topics below or come up with their own.
Discuss the different aspects of the law covered in this course, and how it all comes together to impact the individuals and organizations (e.g., businesses and institutions) in society. This might include an overview of the course, but be careful to make it a thesis paper, not just an expanded version of the definitions assignment.

Choose one or more key topics covered in the course, then research and discuss thoroughly. History, application, important cases, etc. may be included. Students may take advantage of this assignment to learn more about a topic of particular interest, or to more fully understand a complex topic.

Choose an important case to discuss. Include the history of the law involved, and how the case was significant to the field of law covered in the course. Students should include their own opinions about the case, and may want to include prior cases which affected the case being discussed, as well as subsequent cases which were affected. Be careful to make this a thesis paper, not an expanded case brief.

Choose two or three cases and write a paper which compares or contrasts them. As with the prior suggestion, students may cover the history of the legal issues involved; their own opinions about the cases; and prior and subsequent cases dealing with the same issues. Be careful to make this a thesis paper, not a duplication of the case briefs assignment.

Write about the impact of this area of law on your own life. Perhaps you work in a related area, or have been involved in a situation or case which involved this subject of law. Be careful not to disclose confidential information if you discuss an actual case. You may want to include ways that the knowledge you have now acquired would have made a difference in handling past events.

Choose a “cutting edge” legal issue covered in the course, and discuss recent changes and likely future changes; or choose a current event affected by this area of law, and give a legal analysis of the event based on the laws learned.

Write about what you think is the most important, most interesting, or most controversial legal topic covered in the course. Research and present opinions of legal experts and contrast with your own.
