What places were important to you as a child, during adolescence, and now as a young adult?

In this assignment you will reflect upon a meaningful place from your past with the goal of understanding your personal relationship with the environment. This project offers you an opportunity for self-reflection and introspection. As part of this assignment you will consider how past experiences in places shape your life today and your environmental concerns. You will explore your spatial preferences in relation to issues of culture, identity, and place attachment.
An environmental autobiography is much like a standard autobiography with one important difference: the focus is on place and how it has shaped who you are and how you view the world.
Central questions you should address in your environmental autobiography include:
Where: What places were important to you as a child, during adolescence, and now as a young adult?
Meaning: Why was this place meaningful to you? What about this place (its unique qualities and features) and the experiences you had there that make it personally significant? (e.g. sense of identity, control, link with friends/family, etc.) Please reference at least 2 concepts discussed in Fullilove (2004), Manzo (2005), or another reading.
Reflect: In what ways have your past experiences in this place influenced your everyday life today and/or professional career or aspirations? Can you identify or trace your adult spatial/design preferences to this special childhood/past place? What potential biases about the place may affect your design or place-making decisions?
The place that influenced me is the backyard at my home. My favorite object is the rocking chair. Feel relaxed at the moment.

Write an essay about a criminal justice practitioner who has been charged with an ethics violation.

Write an essay about a criminal justice practitioner who has been charged with an ethics violation. This will require some research. Examples could be a law enforcement officer abusing discretion or using unauthorized deadly force, a judge accused of taking bribes, excessive use of force by a corrections officer, etc. Students will need to appropriately cite their references within the text of the paper and include all sources on the reference page. Outline the charges and explain the issues of the incident/case in terms of the ethics associated with the criminal justice system. The paper needs to include a discussion as to why the practitioner committed the violation(s) and what compromised him/her to act unethically, whether the ethical violation charges are valid or the individual’s actions should have been permissible, whether the individual’s supervisor should have done something to stop the ethics violation before it occurred, and what kind of sanction he/she did or should face (demotion, loss of job, loss of license, pay a fine, jail/prison time, etc.).
The paper must include a title and reference page. Please use the template under the Ethics in Action Paper Materials tab in Blackboard. The paper must be in APA format and there should be no mistakes in grammar, spelling, or punctuation. Times New Roman 12-point font and double-spacing are required. Do not adjust margins. The written portion of the paper should be five pages long, which does not include the title and reference pages. There should be two additional pages: the first page should be the title page and the last page should be a reference page. An abstract does not need to be included.
The paper must contain a minimum of four references, one of which must be the course textbook and one of which must be the source used for the ethics violation example. Look at educational websites, professional journals, periodicals or magazines pertinent to criminal justice, and in books other than the course text. Wikipedia is not considered a viable source for this paper. You may use the EBSCO online database at the PSC Library for your journal sources, Google Scholar, or the NCJRS website.
Per APA, students should include in-text citations and write in third person, meaning do not use “I,” “we,” “us,” or “our,” “you,” or “yours.” Please review the example provided to you on Blackboard for formatting showing proper APA format. Remember that a paragraph requires at least three sentences and do not use contractions.

A. Assignment Guidelines
DIRECTIONS: Write a 4-6 page recommendation report in which you:
Use the information you have learned from your informative comparison/contrast assignment to create a persuasive thesis in which you advocate for one of the methods of implementation that you investigated for your innovation. The thesis should clearly state the method you think is best and why (the 2-3 criteria that influenced your recommendation).
For example, if you compared and contrasted various instant messaging tools for creating more rapid communication between teams, you could argue in favor of implementing a particular tool due to the fact that it is less expensive and more user-friendly than the other options.
State your persuasive thesis in an introductory paragraph.
Include 5-7 body paragraphs that explore the criteria that led you to advocate for this particular method of implementation, applying and analyzing researched evidence.
Make sure to explain your reasoning and interpretation of your researched evidence, using the techniques of context, translation, and analysis where appropriate.
Address potential counterarguments using logic and evidence.
Cite and reference 2-4 reliable primary or secondary sources that you used to support your argument for this particular method of implementation.
Make sure to integrate your source material effectively, using the techniques of summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting where appropriate.
End with a concluding paragraph that restates your thesis in different words and provides a concluding thought.
Write in the persuasive mode throughout the composition, using rhetorical appeals.
Minimize mechanical and stylistic errors.

Explain how effective is David Crystal in refuting John Humphrys’ thesis that texters are destroying the English language?

Introduction to the Assignment

We’ve been discussing the differences between “opinion” and “argument.” An opinion, we’ve
said, is a position founded on an unquestioned belief. It may be that a person simply feels a
certain way. In contrast, we’ve agreed that an argument is a more sophisticated and laborious
process of convincing someone else to believe what we do. In other words, if an opinion can be
reduced to the words, “I think/feel that X is a certain way,” an argument differs in that it
expresses the proposition, “I think/feel that X is a certain way, and here’s why you should
agree.”

Although arguing requires a writer to provide evidence for ideas, not all evidence is equally
convincing; similarly, an author’s handling of that support, their analysis, may fall short. There
are, as we’ve noted in class, better and worse arguments about a given topic.

Assignment
In this assignment, you will be analyzing two articles: John Humphrys’ “I h8 txt msgs” and David
Crystal’s “2b or not 2b.” Both articles are available under Canvas: Files.

Explain how effective is David Crystal in refuting John Humphrys’ thesis that texters are destroying the English language? Defend your answer with a careful analysis of both articles.

Your goal in this paper is to persuade your audience to adopt your position. As such, it’s
important for you to avoid summarizing or merely describing, the text you are writing about.
Instead, include an introduction paragraph that leads up to an insightful thesis statement, and
defends that position through a careful analysis of textual evidence in your body paragraphs. End
your essay with a brief conclusion paragraph. We will be discussing strategies for composing
each of these essay components.

Explain how you think managers can use this knowledge to motivate their employees?

This discussion is based on a TED Talk by Dan Pink. Pink, a former speech writer, career analyst, and author of the book Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, reveals some remarkable facts about motivation that have been confirmed in many social science experiments but aren’t widely recognized. Pink argues that the way we’re motivating people is all wrong, and he proposes a new model to replace traditional incentives.
Watch Pink’s TED Talk in the Reading and Resources section, then respond to all of the following questions in your post:
Did you find Pink’s talk surprising? Why or why not?
Pink concludes:
“There is a mismatch between what science knows and what business does. Here is what science knows. One: Those 20th century rewards, those motivators we think are a natural part of business, do work, but only in a surprisingly narrow band of circumstances. Two: Those if-then rewards often destroy creativity. Three: The secret to high performance isn’t rewards and punishments, but that unseen intrinsic drive–the drive to do things for their own sake. The drive to do things cause they matter.”
2. How do you think managers can use this knowledge to motivate their employees? How will you use this knowledge in your own pursuits?
In response to your peers, expand on their ideas related to motivation with the goals of extending the discussions already taking place or posing new possibilities or opinions not previously voice. Whether you agree or disagree, explain why with supporting evidence and concepts from the readings or a related experience. Include a reference, link, or citation when appropriate.
