What problem does Suzanne Nossel identify for free speech?

1: What problem does Suzanne Nossel identify for free speech? Why do you think she believes that free speech advocates should defend fake news despite its potential to spread falsehoods?

2: Nossel writes, “The power of free speech is inextricably tied to the opportunity to be heard and believed, and to persuade.” I explain how critical thinking provides both the means to support fake news and fight against it.

3: Examine Nossel’s argument Do you agree or disagree with the idea of an organization that would label information sources – a sort of Consumer Report for fake news? Do you think it would work? Why or why not?

4: What news sources do you rely upon, and why do you see them as credible and trustworthy? Trace your news sources and evaluate each of them. What criteria do they have to meet for you to trust them?

5:Do you believe that social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are good for free speech in open society or bad for it? Use specific examples to support your ideas.

Discuss what the sources are telling us about medieval society and culture. My topic is Monasteries.

Discuss what the sources are telling us about medieval society and culture. My topic is Monasteries. Essentially think about what life was like for people living in monasteries. Why they chose to live this way, what were they trying to achieve through this lifestyle and what challenges or difficulties did they encounter. You MUST reference ALL 5 of the sources and use Chicago style citation and there is no need for extra research etc. any questions please ask. Thank you !

What problems did the encounter and how did they solve them?

The purpose of a literature review is to evaluate the existing literature. It establishes the current state of your topic, and helps support the necessity for further research. For example, maybe you found several studies on the same topic that came to different conclusions, meaning that the definitive study has yet to be done. Maybe there is no research directly on your topic, only on issues that are tangentially related to your topic. Literature reviews generally include substantive findings as well as theoretical and methodological contributions to a particular topic. In other words, tell the reader about what has been studied, what they concluded, and what it means for your own research. How did the researcher choose their research sample? What research method was used, and how was it evaluated? What problems did the encounter and how did they solve them?

Describe the legal environment of the country, making specific references to – the rule of law (to what extent is the country governed by law as opposed to arbitrary decisions of individual government officials).

This is a written assignment. It needs to be 3 pages long, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12, 1.25 margins.
To submit it, use the “Legal Environment Analysis” Turnitin link that you will find by accessing the Assignments link in Blackboard.
Each individual has to turn in one written assignment.
In this assignment, you need to analyze the legal environment of the country for the country of Brazil. In your paper, make sure you:
1. Describe the legal environment of the country, making specific references to
– the rule of law (to what extent is the country governed by law as opposed to arbitrary decisions of individual government officials)
and
– laws that govern foreign direct investment (for example, are there provisions to attract foreign direct investment, such as tax incentives, most-favored-nation treatment, dispute resolution fora; or provisions that restrict foreign direct investors such as high local content requirements or currency exchange restrictions).
2. Discuss challenges and opportunities for American investors posed by the legal environment.
3. Based on the challenges and opportunities you have identified through your research, formulate two recommendations, with your supporting arguments, to an American investor to successfully navigate the country’s legal environment.
I. Grading Criteria
Maximum number of points = 10
– If nothing is turned in by the deadline or the analysis is conducted on a country other than the one selected in the beginning of the semester = 0 points
– If the write-up is turned in by the deadline and the analysis is conducted on the country selected in the beginning of the semester, the 10 points are distributed as follows:
– 1 point for respecting technical specifications (writing in essay format rather than bullet points; meeting the requirement of 3 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12, 1.25 margins; the length of 3 pages is a specific requirement; maximum of 3.5 pages accepted, beyond that there would be a penalty);
– 2 points for discussing the rule of law, i.e. accurately identifying the extent to which the country is governed by law as opposed to arbitrary decisions of individual government officials, backed up by evidence from primary sources and/or cited findings from secondary sources
– 3 points for identifying laws that govern foreign direct investment and discussing whether they are favorable or unfavorable for foreign investors (as specified in the prompts for the assignment, examples of relevant laws would be laws designed to attract foreign direct investment, such as tax incentives, most-favored-nation treatment, dispute resolution fora; or laws designed to restrict foreign direct investors such as high local content requirements or currency exchange restrictions); identifying 1 relevant law would earn 1 point; identifying 2 relevant laws would earn 2 points; to earn 3 points, the paper should identify at least 2 relevant laws (typically more) and identify overall trends in the country’s legal environment – for example, are most laws favorable or unfavorable to foreign direct investment/ do the laws favor foreign investors from a particular country of origin or from a particular sector of the economy/ is there an ongoing tendency to modify existing laws to make them more or less favorable to foreign investors
– 1 point for identifying challenges for American investors posed by the legal environment
– 1 point for identifying opportunities for American investors posed by the legal environment
– 2 points for formulating 2 recommendations (1 point for each recommendation) to an American investor to successfully navigate the country’s legal environment (the recommendations have to be actionable items; to get the full points, each recommendation has to be supported with arguments).

Identify one of the criteria highlighted in the thesis statement above from the article, “Wikepedia, open source and the truth.”

Here is your task:
THESIS STATEMENT: The Listening Post’s Richard Gizbert sat down with Katherine Maher, who has been Wikimedia Foundation’s executive director for almost one year, to talk about the methods and standards that make Wikipedia a source that journalists, students, teachers and professionals in all industries feel they can rely on.
1. Identify one of the criteria highlighted in the thesis statement above from the article, “Wikepedia, open source and the truth.” Copy and paste direct quote of evidence (1-2 sentences) which the author uses to support the criterion you identify. Explain the purpose or how this quote supports thesis criterion.
See Example:
Journalists: “In fact, behind every Wikipedia page there is a newsroom of sorts, populated by volunteer contributors and editors, operating with full transparency, researching and referencing every claim to make sure that the content fits the facts.
Purpose: This quote is a good example of how to directly connect evidence to the thesis statement by following the quote with a comparison to newsroom standards. This illustrates the serious side of Wikipedia, which is reliable.
2. Copy and paste a quote that supports one of the three remaining criteria in thesis statement above. Then In 1 – 2 sentences paraphrase this quote careful to meet the standards to avoid plagiarism. It may be longer than original quote, but attempt to make your paraphrasing shorter than the original passage.
3. Write a summary of the article which is significantly shorter than the original and takes a broad overview of the entire content in the article.
