additional subcontrols that could be modified either by policy, implementation, automation, or reporting to enhance
security for the organization.
A. Subcontrol One: Describe the modification of the subcontrol and justify your recommendation.
B. Subcontrol Two: Describe the modification of the subcontrol and justify your recommendation.

Attribution
As our textbook explains on page 384:
In crime stories, make sure that you attribute all accusatory information and much of the information you received secondhand (not by direct observation). Factual information does not need attribution.
For example, the location of a crime is usually factual. If someone has been charged with a crime, you can state that as a fact.
To reduce the use of attribution after every sentence, you can use an overview attribution for part of your story, especially when you are recounting what happened (Police described the incident this way). Or mix it up: According to Providence Police….
Taking the above into consideration, write a full news story – with a strong, straight news lead – using the information (below) you obtained from a Providence Police report. Give attribution where needed and apply AP style.
Your Turn
Information
Injured: Randolph Carver, 43, 10 Marlborough Avenue, Providence. Shot two times, in the abdomen and once in the buttocks.
Shot in the parking lot of Stop & Shop in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Providence. On Main Street, to be exact.
Injured claims he doesn’t know who shot him. Someone shot him from a car driving by. It was approximately 4:45 in the morning. It is not known why Carver was in the parking lot at that time.
Found on the scene were eight 9-mm shell casings in the parking lot.
While searching the area two suspects were spotted on foot at the corner of Evergreen and Cobalt street. Police approached the two suspects for questioning. They fled on foot into a nearby patch of woods.
When Patrolman Gregory Gray stepped out of the car to question the individuals, he said that “a third suspect stepped out from the nearby doorway and pushed a pit bull toward him before running into the woods himself.” The pit bull attacked him and bit him on the right leg and on the left arm. He shot the dog. He drove himself to Rhode Island Hospital. Received 26 stitches.
His partner, Tony Sarducci, pursued the perpetrators into the woods but said he was “unable to locate them.” He returned to the station to file his report. No arrests; police are investigating.
Sociology Measuring
Assignment:
Step 1) Each student will develop 2 sociological questions and one theory for each question (examples below). One question needs to be able to be explored qualitatively and the other, you guessed it, quantitatively.
Step 2) Develop a theory for each question
Step 3) Develop a hypothesis for each theory (one qualitative and one quantitative)
Step 4) Submit your work in the following format:
A) Identify whether the hypothesis will be measured qualitatively or quantitatively
B) State the Question (what are you curious about) / observation
C) State the Theory (how do you think two things are related)
D) State the hypothesis (what effects what)
E) State how the hypothesis can be measured (question people, observe a phenomenon, survey people, count the number of times X happens)
This is worth 50 points (25 points each) and I will be grading it on how well you understand the concepts which will be your answer completeness, did you explain your theory, hypothesis, measurement.
Your questions / theory should be logical but don’t have to be Earth shattering new ideas. Just demonstrate your understanding.
Example:
Quantitatively
Question: why do some people tend to get more traffic tickets than other people?
Theory: the color of someone’s car can affect their chance of receiving a traffic ticket
Hypothesis: people who drive red cars tend to break the speed limit more than those who do not drive red cars
Measure: I could go to the local police department and ask for statistics on the color of each car where a speeding ticket was issued to the driver and calculate what color of car gets the most speeding tickets. Or, I could ask the local insurance agent for the number of car crashes involving red cars compared to all other colors of car.
Please let me know if you have further questions.

summaries of the readings; the purpose is to develop a critical analysis of the material and an
original ‘take’ on the week’s content. The papers must be a minimum of between 750-1000
words in length (not including the bibliography)
Outline:
-Introduction: 1) introduce the problem/question 2) thesis statement (your own argument) 3) present
the structure of your essay very briefly
-Body: presenting the content of your paper, [backing up all of your statements with references to
course material/texts/lectures/documentaries] 1) summary of the week’s theme (linking readings

Popular Versus Scholarly Sources
Evaluate a popular media source using at least three peer-reviewed articles, which will give you practice distinguishing valuable information from less-reliable sources.
Cognitive psychology is the study of how people think. As you review theories and research in preparation for your assessment, consider the behind-the-scenes functioning of how your brain performs basic operations and processes information. Our ability to think starts with the biological actions in our brain. You’ll also consider what areas of the brain might cause disorientation or memory loss.
Overview
In this course, you’ll practice applying science and theory to making evaluations of conditions and also bringing audiences, like the public, along in action steps. First, you’ll want hone your analytical skills. It’s also good to see the kind of information that’s out there in the world. So in this assessment, you’ll try distinguishing valuable information from less-reliable sources.
Preparation
Find a popular video or website that covers a topic from the Cognitive Psychology text. You can use the CRAAP Test Worksheet media piece to help you determine whether you consider the media valid and what additional questions you have about the topic.
Use the Popular Versus Scholarly Sources Worksheet [DOCX] to complete this assessment.
Select a popular media source like a video or a website that covers a topic from the Cognitive Psychology text.
Provide a link to the source.
Summarize the content of the source using bullet points or a 4-6 sentence paragraph.
Identify at least three peer-reviewed journal articles on the topic covered in the source.
Compare and contrast information provided in the source with the three articles by answering the following questions:
What information provided by the popular source is supported by research or information provided in the articles?
What, if any, information in the articles conflicts with the popular source?
Do you consider the media source you selected to be valid? Why or why not?
What questions do you have about the topic based on your analysis?
Discuss how the topic you reviewed can be applied to the real world. Feel free to include a personal example.
Important: Prior to submission, conduct a self-evaluation of this assessment using the scoring guide and identifying the proficiency level for each criterion. Submit your assessment and the self-evaluation (as a separate attachment). See below for more instructions.
Additional Requirements
Your assessment should also meet the following requirements:
Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
Resources: Use your course resources and at least three peer-reviewed and scholarly resources (no more than five years old).
APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and formatting guidelines.
Template: Use the Popular Versus Scholarly Sources Worksheet [DOCX] to complete this assessment.
Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
Self-Evaluation
When you have finished, write a separate, one-page self-evaluation of your work compared to the scoring guide criteria.
Ensure that you have completed all assessment requirements (ideally at the Distinguished level).
Evaluate your performance using the criteria in the scoring guide.
Indicate the proficiency level you met for each criterion.
Include the scoring guide (including comments) with your self-evaluation.
Submit the self-evaluation as a separate attachment when you submit your assessment.
You may find the Self-Evaluation Tool helpful in guiding you through this process.
