Communication Primary Sources

For this assignment, you will choose one of the three primary source sets posted on D2L under Content
> Resources for Assignments > Primary Source Analysis Assignment. You will offer a written analysis
of what one or more of the sources within your chosen set reveal about the historical context in which
they were produced. (For example, one photograph, article, or advertisement counts as one source. You
can choose to write about just one primary source, but you may find that adding additional primary
sources allows you to develop a deeper analysis.) You should address each of the points below, but
rather than offering point-form responses, you should present your analysis as a short, well-organized,
well-written essay (with a minimum word count of 800 words). It should include at least one
introductory sentence and one concluding sentence. Please note for the purposes of this assignment, your
analysis should focus on a primary source or sources within one of the primary source sets provided—
writing about unrelated primary sources at length is not acceptable.

Please be clear about
which primary sources you are discussing in your assignment; if you’re discussing images, it would be
helpful to include the images at the end of your assignment.

With your analysis, you should respond to the following general questions, as well as the source-specific
questions listed below that apply to the primary sources you’ve chosen.

Computer and Technology

Society is becoming increasingly dependent on computers and technology for functioning in everyday life. Every aspect of our lives has been affected by the infiltration of computers and technology. Computers are used to conduct business from home, meet new friends and find old friends, maintain communications with distant family, and to meet out some stress relief after a long day at the office. As more and more people rely on computers to succeed each day, it begs the question – are people becoming too dependent on computers, your paper should look at either the historical changes that shook up society or future changes being developed now that will shake up society?

Submission Instructions:
Please answer the question with a minimum of 500 words. Attach the submission in a word document. Credit will not be given if the document is not the minimum number of words.

Create a Change Initiative Plan Using Kotter

Identify a change for an organization you are familiar with or Queens University (or the McColl
of Business). You should view this change as an important one for the organization’s overall
health. For example, perhaps you believe that Queens should have a new major or that your
employer should implement a new software system that would improve employees’
effectiveness.

Use Kotter’s model to create a plan to make the change stick. Consider what you would need to
do at each stage in the model to be effective.

For example, in relation to stage one, how would you create a sense of urgency for this
change? What data might support it? What trends in the industry signal the need for it? What is
the business case for it? With respect to stage two, who would you put on your powerful
guiding coalition (you don’t need real names, just indicators of their level in the
organization)? And so forth.

Twitter Forum: Issues for Alternative Sentencing and for Community Corrections

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, review a state’s department of corrections Twitter
(Links to an external site.)
You can consider any of the Twitter pages for state correctional departments in the Recommended Resources for this week, or you can do an Internet search to locate a specific state’s department of corrections Twitter page. The Twitter page must be the official account of that state department of corrections. For example, you could explore Tweets from one of the Twitter pages listed in the resource list for Week 4, or you could review a state’s department of corrections’ Twitter page of your choosing. Select a Tweet and explain how its content relates to a social justice and criminal justice issue for alternative sentencing and for community corrections. As noted before, your textbook Chapter 7 is a helpful reference for alternatives sanctions (alternatives to incarceration) that may be implemented.

Chemistry and society class

Explore the topic of climate change on the web, paying special attention to the content of the EPA website (www.epa.gov (Links to an external site.)) and the NOAA climate website (www.climate.gov (Links to an external site.)). Write a short essay (less than one page) explaining the change in global temperatures and the risks associated with that change. Pay special attention to any numerical values given on the websites. How many digits are reported in these values? What does this say about the certainty of the measurements? Please type up your response and upload your word document here. Please make sure that you check your spelling and grammar before submitting your work.

greek temple influence

Choose an ancient Greek temple that appears online. This will be your good example of one of the Greek orders – Doric, Ionic or Corinthian.
Find a building of a later date that borrows from that same architectural order. This comparison building may be found in a later chapter of your text, online, or perhaps in your home town. Note that the two images in this essay description illustrate how to choose your building. You may not use these examples in your essay.
Include an image of each example in the essay. To find images, you can refer to Wikimedia Commons or our
Fully identify your ancient Greek temple example, noting whether it is Doric, Ionic or Corinthian. Using the diagram in the book to guide you, describe the elements of the order as illustrated by your example. You may want to describe it from the bottom up, using appropriate architectural terms. Your example may be ruinous, so describe what can be seen and suggest what might be missing.
Continue the essay by introducing the later building. Fully identify it. In what ways does it follow the Greek order? Has the architect deviated from those strict Greek rules?
Finally, why might the later architect have borrowed from Greek style? Was it part of a trend? Was the style used to convey a message?

Criminology – firearms

ASSIGNMENT INFORMATION
I hope you got the opportunity to listen to the podcasts and examine all of the course content prior to the first assignment. Again, please review the RESOURCE module as well to be sure you know how to organize and build/design your assignment.
The first initial of your last names will correlate to the transnational organized crime (TOC) you need to discuss.
Last name TOC_________________
A – E Firearms

Based on the course content inclusive of modules #1-2,
Explain the scope (prevalence/numbers, incidences) of this crime (you have been assigned) at a global and local Canadian level (2pgs).
Explore and explain the trafficking routes to/from North America (NO MAPS; .5pg).
How/by whom/where is this crime taking place in Canada either covertly or overtly? (1pg)
Who would you say is the most corruptible within this crime – Is it unknowing citizens or government agencies? (.5pg)
You will be expected to explain, correlate, and integrate 15 relevant self-identified concepts [15×1%] (key terms, statistics, author’s points of view) within course content inclusive of modules #1-2.
You will then be expected to explain, correlate, and integrate 13 relevant self-identified concepts [13×1%] from THREE new primary sources (technical reports, journal articles) and 2 concepts [2×1%] from ONE new secondary source (youtube videos, media news stories).
Bold or underline these 30 key concepts within your assignment. You can use more sources if you wish. The assignment should be FOUR pages, single-spaced, and 12 font with appropriate margins.
There are also additional assignment parameters you should be aware of.
No title page is required.
However, you will need to include an additional reference page(s) for ALL of the course content and new sources you utilize. Please know you will not be penalized if you exceed the page length. You can also feel free to write in the first person. You should not feel compelled to tell me anything personal or something you may feel is inappropriate. However, if you want to share, know that it will be confidential between you and I.
At this level, it will be expected that the essay-based assignment is written with attention paid to spelling, grammar, sentence structure, its appearance, proper citations, and references. I will not grade point form, so please don’t use it.
You can choose your own citation style (APA, ASA, MLA), and I simply ask that you remain consistent. Should this be problematic, it will be reflected in your grade.
