Explain why you would join The American School Counselor Association?

Respond to this post:

The professional association that I would like to join is the American School Counselor Association(ASCA). I chose this particular organization because they are dedicated, supportive and the leading advocates for the development of the school counseling profession. The ASCA supports school counselors with professional developments, publications and many other important resources. This professional association is also involved in the promotion of national and state legislation which can support, strengthen and expand the work of school counselors around the globe. The ASCA is well known for advocating for systemic change and supporting the efforts of school counselors. This way, school counselors could help students in many developmental aspects. With the support of the ASCA, school counselors can have the proper resources and they are capable of professionally guiding students to focus on their academics, future career goals, social development and emotional development.

Explain why the Europeans immigrate to the Americas?

Let’s Dig Deeper Into the Transatlantic Slave Trade !!

This week, our goal is to establish our baseline for the rest of the class.

To understand slavery, and why it was so important to America’s identity, we must dig a little deeper into why European colonies needed to own their laborers. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll look at the motivations pushing Spain, France and England to set up their colonies. Each had a slightly different take on bondage, so as a result, had different relationships with the Africans they enslaved.

This week, we’ll look closely at how Great Britain expanded their empire and pay specific attention to how one African person used his story to advance a new way of life.

Take out a piece of paper and a note pad, or have your digital notepad ready. These videos are filled with lots of facts.

Topic 1: Colonization: Explain why the Europeans immigrate to the Americas?
Sit back, relax and lets go back to the 1500s. Each empire had it’s own motivations for colonizing North America. Although on paper, they look very similar, they each brought their own worldview to the Western Hemisphere. This influenced the way they governed, created laws, shaped their traditions, customs and culture and even influenced how they decided who was and wasn’t a slave.

Topic 2: The British and Slavery
For many of us, the story of the British colonies is something we learned in grade school. From Mayflower to the story of Paul Revere, we’ve grown up hearing about our country’s British origins. What’s often absent from those stories is the role that slavery played in making the colonies profitable.

Topic 3: Olaudah Equiano

Equiano was taken from his native land (now known as Nigeria) and sold into his slavery. He was later freed, writes his memoir and becomes the most famous African person of his generation. His story was far from ordinary, but it is important that we pay attention of the words of enslaved people. It gives us a much better insight into their lived experience and raises up their dignity. After all, just because they were dehumanized does not mean that they were not human.

Week 4 Assignment: Three News Stories

Because you are now familiar with how to write a lead and a nut graf, you will now focus on writing a complete news story. In this assignment you will write three complete news stories culling from the facts below. Be sure to use a dateline, AP style, source attribution and write in complete sentences (not in headlines). Also, remember to avoid subjective language.

Story #1
Information
Fire broke out at a restaurant on North Main Street in Cranston.
Building was vacant, out of business.
Was once the Lamplighter Café.
Fire is suspicious; origin unknown.
Fire was reported at about 3 o’clock in the morning on Friday.
One firefighter was hurt fighting the blaze.
Listed in satisfactory condition. Minor injuries.
It took firefighters 8 hours to get under control.
All of this information was according to Cranston fire officials.

Story #2
Information
This story happened in NYC.
Near Times Square, actually this morning at around 6:30.
It happened in an office building near Times Square
Police say it appears to have been a murder-suicide
Three people were shot. They’re all dead
It occurred at 1440 Broadway near 40th
In a temporary office leased by Empire blue cross and blue shield
Anyway, that’s what a company spokeswoman told the Associated Press.

Story #3

Write a brief news story for The Freeport News in Maine. You may choose either a straight news lead or more of a feature lead. But this is not a feature story – it is a news story.
You make a telephone check with the state highway patrol and the dispatcher tells you:
Had a strange one around midnight about 20 miles east of Canton. A 20 year old short-order cook employed by Leek’s Café in Freeport was going home when his car went out of control on a bridge over the tracks of Amtrak. Broke through the guardrail, sailed through the air, hit power lines, and then fell to the tracks, landing upside down.
The guy was unhurt, but it took 15 minutes to get him out of the car. His name is Alan Taylor of Freeport. We booked him for reckless and drunk driving, driving without a license and speeding. A guy following him says he must have hit that bridge at 90. Had a 1986 Chevy that he’d modified.
A witness, who asked not to be named, said it was “kind of miraculous all around. It’s a wonder he wasn’t electrocuted or killed in the fall. If it’d happened a few minutes before, an eastbound train might have hit him and his car.”

Submission
Write your stories in a single Word document. Upload the Word Doc to the submission link.

What is the difference between formatting and conditional formatting?

In Module 2 you will study and explore formatting cells. Based on your readings, answer the following questions. Your responses must be in your own words, substantial and detailed and your classmate responses the same. I agree and good job responses and the like are not acceptable and will be penalized. Nor are one to two sentence course member replies. No more than one post per day.
What is the difference between formatting and conditional formatting? Are formatting cells necessary? Support your response. If yes, why. If no, why not. Provide a specific example where you would apply conditional formatting to your workbook.
