Is the work relatively volumetric (three-dimensional) or does it tend to flatten out?

Look carefully at either Bull Capital from Rampurva or Lion Capital from Sarnath. What kind of power did emperor Ashoka want to convey in the image? For instance, does it seem peaceful or awe-inspiring, other-worldly or familiar? Is this feeling created by relative naturalism (imitation of natural appearances) or by relative abstraction or some combination of the two? Condense your answers into your thesis—the clear statement of the argument that you intend to demonstrate in the paper. Then write a statement of organization in which you tell how you will demonstrate your point by analyzing the formal elements of the sculpture.
2.Discuss and analyze how the sculptor created that effect by analyzing the formal elements listed below. Do NOT simply describe the formal effects. Rather, tell HOW each formal device creates the effect. Sentences should include phrases like “because” and “in this way.” Each formal element should be analyzed in a separate paragraph.
(a) Composition. How are the various parts of the sculpture (the body) related? Is there a natural articulation or flow between these body parts or is there a more schematic or abstract relation? How does this approach to composition create the expressive effect?
(b) Volume. Is the work relatively volumetric (three-dimensional) or does it tend to flatten out? Is it more or less volumetric that the real thing that it portrays? Why?
(c) Proportion. How does the work’s scale relate to the size of a cows or lions in reality? Are some parts exaggerated? What does this adherence or deviation from reality suggest?
(d) Line. What is the role of line in the work? Is the sculpture linear (emphasizing lines) or does it emphasize volume? Does the sculpture have curvilinear (curving) or rectilinear (straight) orientation? Do these lines create naturalistic details or abstract patterns? What are the effects of these qualities?
(e) Texture. As best you can tell, is the surface smooth or rough? Does this replicate or deviate
from the real texture of the object depicted? What effect does this create?
(f) Color. What is the role of color in the work? Is the color naturalistic or abstract? What does the presence or absence of color suggest?
Print then edit your draft. Did you sufficiently study the object? Is your title informative? Is your thesis clear? Is the organization reasonable? Is each paragraph unified by a topic sentence?

relevant to your experience with Primary students. In about 250 words, explain
the practical implications of your chosen theory for teachers of Primary
students.
Post your theory and explanation to the Discussion.
Read your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least one.

Child Development Connections
Look through the Ontario Curriculum Documents for the
Primary grades.
Choose one subject area and identify at least three
connections between the curriculum expectation in that subject area and a child
development theory. Explain how you can use these connections to better
understand and support your Primary learners.
Post your response to the Discussion.
Read your colleagues’ posts and respond with comments to at
least one.

Learning Theories
Explore the learning theories found in the following links:
Learning Theories
Ontario Curriculum Documents
Choose two learning theories that resonate with you. Reflect
and make connections to your own learning experiences and those of your
students. Briefly respond to the following questions:
How do these learning theories frame the way you think, the
way you prepare lessons, and help you effectively deliver the curriculum?
How can you use this information to plan instruction that
respects students’ individual learning styles, strengths, and experiences?
Post your answers to the Discussion.
Read your colleagues’ posts and respond to one.

Applying Theories of Education
Educators need to understand the importance of establishing
collaborative communities of empowered and engaged learners that embraces
creativity, problem solving, and inquiry-based learning. We need to create and
sustain positive, ethical, equitable, inclusive, engaging, and safe learning
environments for our students.

Now prepare responses to the following:
How does your school board support differentiated
instruction in Primary education, e.g., special education, English as a Second
Language, French, Music?
What are some strategies to support learners’ resiliency,
well-being, and mental health?
How can culturally inclusive pedagogies be incorporated in
program design, planning, and development?
What does equity mean to you?
Explain how we ensure we are respecting the rights of the
children we are teaching?
Post your ideas and strategies to the Discussion.
Critical Thinking
How do we promote critical thinking in our classrooms? How
can educators guide learners to become good problem solvers? How can we equip
learners with the tools to successfully navigate the 21st century? How do we
nurture global citizenship? Consider these questions and read the following:
Strategies to Promote Critical Thinking in the Elementary
Classroom

Doing Business With Other Cultures
China
Very few outside firms have yet to make a profit in China. One primary reason is that Western-based MNCs do not appreciate the important role and impact of Chinese culture. When dealing with the Chinese, one must realize they are a collective society in which people pride themselves on being members of a group.
France
Many in the United States believe that it is more difficult to get along with the French than with other Europeans. This feeling probably reflects the French culture, which is markedly different from that in the United States.
Russia
The Russian economy has experienced severe problems, and the risks of doing business there cannot be overstated. At the same time, however, by following certain guidelines, MNCs can begin to tap the potential opportunities.
Discussion
Post a few cultural highlights described in your textbook from each country above listed.
Respond to another student, from an American point of view, and state, why you think one of the cultural highlights posted, would affect MNCs in doing business in that country.
