Chosen Indivual is Ben
Scenario: Justin, Adrienne, Ben, and Tony are half-brothers and sisters whose parents married after their respective divorces from other spouses. Their parents come from two different races and have been married for 5 years. The parents are experiencing marital difficulties, some, but not all, of which are brought on by problems with their oldest son, Tony, age 20. Tony has struggled with substance abuse and has been getting into trouble since high school. Their parents had Justin, their only bi-racial child, who is now 4-years old and shows signs of being behind in aspects of his development. Adrienne and Ben are twins, age 9 from their mother’s first marriage. Adrienne is thriving in school, socially and developmentally, but Ben is struggling in some or all of those areas, but gives his parents few if any problems and is supportive of his oldest brother, despite his challenges.

Note: This scenario is brief to allow you to make research-supported assumptions about the selected person’s development and potential problems that the individual might face.

How to Write A Research Paper – Business World Style – Introduction to Governing Thought / Pyramid Style Business Research Writing

In the academic world, to some extent the student is the audience. We wait for the teacher to curate the material and lessons, lay everything out in an organized fashion, and so forth. The “monkey” (responsibility) to a large extent is on the back of the teacher.
But In the business world, think of your boss / owner as someone who went in to business to make money and take care of her family. She did not start all of this just to hand out money to a stranger (you). At some point, the business was making enough money, and tasks were piling up, so she had not choice but to hire you. It’s important to understand that in business, the owners/bosses don’t want to hire and employee you – they have no choice. The monkey is on your back. You need to prove your worth and be valuable.
So once you are hired, she has these things in mind:
1. That you are moving the business drivers for her business, and
2. You think like her, and do things that she wants done, and take things OFF of her desk – you don’t give her things to do. You do them before she asks you to.
Research for the Boss
So, when it comes to research, a super proactive person, who wants to get promoted, just spontaneously does research on their own, and brings it to the boss in a way that she will appreciate.
Or, sometimes the boss will say, “Hey, I just heard about this trend,” or “Our competitor just added this,” and she wants you to find out what informed business decision she needs to make because of this new development.
Now, if you show up with a 20 page paper, she will say: “I don’t have time to read that! I just want to know what to do!!!”
If you throw a one page summary on her desk, she will say: “Well, how do I even know if I want to take the time to read that?!”
If you say, “Boss, this is what I learned! (verbally),” she will say, “I’m on my way to a meeting! No time for you!”
If you provide a 1 page summary with a bold printed single statement at the top that states the point of the paper she will say: “Where are your references? How do I know this is credible?”
So what do you do? A Governing Thought (Or Top Down) Paper.
Assignment: Please read this article Link
(Links to an external site.)
and then submit a one to two paragraph summary of what you learned.
Criteria: 1) Provide a summary of the article and 2) state what you found to be most important, useful, or significant to you.

Central Idea Statement
Erdrich portrays the disintegration of the relationship between two brothers, one a combat veteran and the other a civilian. The story shows that war does not just kill people’s bodies, it destroys their minds.
Discussion
“The Red Convertible” by Louise Erdrich is a story about two brothers, Lyman and Henry, who have a strong relationship with each other and their community. Lyman is a lucky businessman who can always make money while Henry is a laborer who lives paycheck to paycheck. Lyman and Henry buy a red convertible together, and they take a road trip with it. Henry later joins the army, and when he returns home, he has become totally different . The red convertible is an important symbol of the story because it shows the unity of the two brothers while they have different characters and life experiences. By portraying the disintegration of the brothers’ relationship, Erdrich shows that war does not just kill people’s bodies, it destroys their minds.

A narrative essay using the techniques and elements of narrative writing.

A. Choose a topic that enables you to tell a short, interesting personal story. Your story can be funny, suspenseful, meaningful, or exciting, but it must focus on one event. For example, if you decide to write about traveling to Denmark, you should not write about the entire trip. Choose one event (e.g., an afternoon you spent bicycling on an island, or your first taste of smoked herring, or your visit to the childhood home of Hans Christian Anderson) and tell a detailed story that focuses on that event.
The following are some ideas that can help you to select a topic for your story:
Firsts: Think of a “first” in your life and describe that moment in detail.
Proud Moment: Choose a moment when you felt proud about an accomplishment.
Adversity: Describe a time when you had to think or act quickly to overcome a challenge.
Travel: Recall a memorable experience you had while visiting an interesting place.
B. Think About Your Writing
Below your completed narrative, include answers to all of the following reflection questions:
1. Which narrative techniques did you use to bring your story to life? (2-3 sentences) Sophia says: Did you use vivid description, sensory details, and/or dialogue to engage readers? Provide two examples from your essay in which you “show” readers rather than “tell” them. EXAMPLE: A sentence such as “I glanced at the clock, grabbed my briefcase, and sprinted for the elevator” uses more descriptive language than simply saying, “I was running late for the meeting.”
2. How did your purpose and audience shape the way in which you wrote your narrative? (3-4 sentences) Sophia says: Your hypothetical audience extends beyond the people who will evaluate your narrative. Which individuals or groups were you addressing when you wrote your narrative, and how did consideration of your audience and your purpose influence the way in which you wrote it?
3. Provide a concrete example from your narrative that shows how you have written specifically for this audience and purpose. (3-5 sentences) Sophia says: Consider including a quotation from your essay and explaining how it was written to appeal to your audience, and to accomplish your purpose. Alternatively, you might describe a theme, tone, or narrative technique that you used and explain how it was intended to appeal to your audience and achieve your purpose.
C. Narrative Guidelines
DIRECTIONS: Refer to the checklist below throughout the writing process. Do not submit your Touchstone until your essay meets all of the guidelines.
Narrative Focus and Flow
❒ Are all of the details in your story relevant to your purpose?
❒ Are the events presented in a logical order that is easy to follow?
❒ Is your story 500-800 words in length? If not, which details do you need to add or subtract?
Narrative Structure
❒ Is there an opening paragraph that introduces the setting, characters, and situation?
❒ Are there middle paragraphs that describe the progression of events?
❒ Is there a closing paragraph that provides a thorough resolution to the story?
Narrative Language and Techniques
❒ Have you incorporated narrative language and techniques (e.g., figurative language, concrete and sensory details, dialogue, and vivid description)?
❒ Can examples of narrative language and techniques be found throughout your story, or are they only evident in some places?
Conventions
❒ Have you double-checked for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, formatting, and capitalization?
❒ Have you proofread to find and correct typos?
Before You Submit
❒ Have you included your name, date, and course in the top left corner of the page?
❒ Have you answered all of the “Think About Your Writing” questions?

High performing work team analysis

Organizations often use surveys or questionnaires to obtain
information regarding employee satisfaction, organizational issues impacting
staff performance, and perceptions of pay and benefits, organizational culture,
etc. Sometimes, questionnaires are used
in classes for staff development and focus on behavioral styles, conflict
styles, or team behaviors. Additionally,
surveys may be used to help intact teams or departments focus on and resolve
team differences or performance issues. Many
times, the questions themselves provide people with insight into what the
organization expects from its employees.

The
Scenario

You are the leader of a cross-functional team that has not been
performing well. You are not sure what’s
causing the problems, but you know that the team cannot continue this way. You have contacted the Human Resources (HR) department
for help, and they suggested using the High
Performing Work Teams Survey as a tool to diagnose problems within the
team. Every team member will complete
the survey anonymously. The HR department
will analyze the results and will work with you to develop a plan to address
issues.

Your
Task

Read the questions in the High Performing Work Teams Survey. The survey follows these instructions. You will analyze the questions,
identify trends you see in the questions, and discuss what you and the members of
your team could learn by taking this survey.

Write 4-7 pages (not
counting the cover or reference pages), summarizing the trends
you identified, describing what you and your team members could learn from
taking the survey, and discussing your conclusions about what is required of
team members in order to create a high performing work team. Support your opinions and statements with a
minimum of five references from sources published within the last ten years.

You can cite scholarly and practitioner-oriented journals,
newspaper articles, YouTube videos, (but not Wikipedia, vendor websites, or
other non-academic sources.) Please use
the UMUC library to search for appropriate sources rather than Google or other
search engines. Librarians are available
by phone, email, and chat; they are excellent at their jobs and they love to
help students. See the Library link in
the Resources section (on the ribbon at the top of our classroom) or go
directly to https://sites.umuc.edu/library/index.cfm for more
information and to begin searching for sources. You can also consult a graduate writing tutor
for help with organizing your ideas, presenting them clearly, and complying
with APA style requirements. You can
access tutors through the Writing Tutoring module in our classroom.

Use APA format for citations, references, and quotations.
This means your list of references should start on a separate page, and should
be double spaced, with a hanging indent and no spaces between entries.
Your analysis should be 4-7 pages (not counting the cover or reference pages),
double spaced with one-inch margins and a font size of at least 11 points. The rubric for Grading High Performing Work
Team Analysis is provided along with this document (it follows the High Performing Work Teams Survey). The rubric gives details on how your analysis
will be graded. Keep in mind that most
organizations value efficient communication; busy managers don’t have time –
and most don’t have the desire – to read long reports. Keep your writing clear and concise.
