Case Study: Samantha and William

part 1 Case Study: Samantha and William
Consider the following scenario:
Samantha and William have been married for 22 years. In the past 9 years, William hasn’t seen a doctor regularly because he “feels fine.” Samantha suspects that he’s simply fearful about doctor visits and is concerned about a poor diagnosis, especially since he’s witnessed a few of his friends become ill over the years. Samantha convinces William to accompany her to her annual exam, but she wants her doctor to help her convince William to see his own physician.
What do you think could be done to increase the likelihood that this approach is effective?
Support your position with resources and appropriate APA formatting and citations.

part 2 U.S. Healthcare Educational System

part 3 PCMH and ACO Opportunities and Threats
Discuss at least one opportunity and one threat concerning Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMH) and Accountable Care Organizations (ACO). How can these models improve the overall health and wellness of populations through education and training of health care professionals in these settings?

Hypotheses

A
Systematic Review of Workplace Trauma and Strategies for Organizational Leaders.
Problem statement
Organizational
leaders cannot guarantee employees not to get exposed to trauma while in the
workplace (Hopper 2018). Therefore traumatic events are unavoidable in the
workplace. However, there are some strategies that organizational leaders can
take to prevent traumatic events from causing debilitating effects to
employees.

One
of the significant actions they can take is to prepare employees adequately to
respond to the traumatic events when they occur, grant the affected access to
coping strategies, and provide social support (O’Donnell et al., 2017). There
are various workplace traumas that employees can be exposed to, including
stressful events such as the death of a colleague or life-threatening events
such as accidents and injuries at the workplace and infectious diseases. This
research, however, will explore the effects of psychological trauma due to the
workplace. Psychological workplace trauma could occur due to an unsafe work
environment, overly taxing employment schedules, racism, bullying, and poor
work-life boundaries.

When
employees experience workplace trauma, they are more likely to experience
physical, emotional, and psychological effects. Physical effects may include
fatigue, change in appetite, experiencing frequent headaches and pain.
Emotional effects may include feeling helpless, getting frustrated, becoming
irritable. Some behavioral products could consist of anxiety, fear, anger, isolation,
task avoidance, employee conflicts, lack of sleep, accidents, or loss of
motivation (Tehrani 2018).

After
experiencing workplace trauma, employees are more likely to experience distress
reactions (Morganstein et al., 2017). They may start getting angry and
vulnerable more often. They may also lose faith and become demoralized. The
majority of employees experience irritability, distractibility, and insomnia.
Some employees will display physical symptoms such as headache, fatigue, body
weakness, dizziness, and nausea even when no physical disorder can be found.
Employees are also likely to suffer health risk behaviors following traumatic
events.

Most
of them start taking excess alcohol and tobacco to self-medicate traumatic
stress (Winter 2019). Escalation of traumatic stress may also cause some to
become violent or isolate themselves. Some employees may also develop
psychiatric disorders after experiencing a traumatic event. The most common
condition is PTSD (Morganstein et al., 2017).

According
to Morganstein et al. (2017), it is approximated that about 20% of
employees exposed to a traumatic event develop PTSD disorder. However, the
disorder starts with milder symptoms but later becomes problematic. Other
employees may experience panic disorder and anxiety. Some studies also suggest
that depression is experienced more frequently than PTSD following traumatic
events.
Purpose statement
The
purpose of this research proposal is to identify the cause and consequences of
psychologically traumatic events in the workplace and the strategies that
organizational leaders can take to prevent these events.
Overall research questions
1) What
is workplace trauma?
2) What
is psychological trauma?
3) What
are the causes and consequences of psychological workplace trauma?
4) What
strategies can organization leaders take to combat this trauma?
5) What
are examples of traumatic events that employees can experience in the
workplace?
6) How
does a traumatic event occur in the workplace?
7) How
can organizations prepare their employees to handle traumatic events in the
workplace?
8) Is
the traumatic effect permanent?
9) How
can workplace trauma be measured and assessed?

Summary, Talking Points, and Slogans

Description:
Concise, precise, and compelling language is vital to getting your message out there. This assignment compiles material that a communications officer or political candidate could use in a media appearance. You will boil down some of your research into brief soundbites that can get your message across to an audience that is not necessarily familiar with the topic.
Approach:
Choose one of your annotations and use the summary you wrote. Spend some time tinkering with the summary to make sure that your language is precise and your sentences relatively short and easy to read. Then, write out some talking points. Focus on active sentence construction. Your sentences should be assertive and confident. Then come up with 2-3 catchphrases. Key word there is “catchy.” Try out some alliteration, think carefully about rhythm and length, and maybe rhyme. Consult Luntz’s Words That Work and the article, “Frank Luntz, the GOP’s message master, calls for climate action,” for tips. Take special note of his “words to use and words to lose” recommendations. Can you make similar choices and recommendations?
Format:
You should fit all three of these on one single-spaced page, 12-point Times New Roman font. You should be able to hand this document, cold, to a Public Relations Manager, and they should be able to confidently stand in front of a camera with only this sheet for reference. Specifically, the document should include:
Summary – One paragraph, 4-6 sentences.
Talking Points – Sentences in bullet point format, 250 words maximum
Slogans – 2-3 catchphrases
Example:
Summary of “Apocalypse Becomes the New Normal”
Paul Krugman’s editorial emphasizes the distinction between “causation” and “relation” with regard to climate change and catastrophic weather events. News media has been reluctant to connect climate change to such catastrophes because of the complex and multiple causes of weather. Krugman explains that climate change does not directly cause individual catastrophes but instead makes them more likely, and more extreme. Krugman acknowledges that the Democratic party platform and an increasing number of voters recognize the role of climate change and favor immediate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, along with other initiatives. It is important, therefore, for the media to report directly and honestly about climate change, and for political candidates to use current catastrophes to support bold action.
Sample Talking Point
Fire, floods, and heat waves are and will be the new normal until we have the courage to do what is necessary to address climate change.
America will take the lead in greening the global economy.
Sample Slogan (from Luntz)
Green careers, here and now!
