CITATIONS & REFERENCES:
Each assignment will have 6-8 in-text citations using at least three (3) different academic sources:

• a minimum of 3 from other course material or approved academic resources.
• Non-academic sources may be used to support your work, however blogs, social media outlets, Wikipedia, Buzzfeed, Dictionaries, etc. are NOT acceptable sources for these 6-8 references (so you can use other quotes, blogs, etc. but they do not count towards this requirement)

Mass/Spree Killer
Find and describe a mass/spree killer. Must be from more than 6 months ago
(prior to July of 2021). Describe as much information as you can find –
organized/disorganized, local, traveling, his or her motive, background, etc.
Include a link to your source. Should be about 1 to 2 pages.
Backpack Design
Challenge: Design an innovative Backpack for traveling amidst the virus.
Your backpack must clearly take into account what people are experiencing, what they might experience, what they need, how they feel (emotions), and account for all the senses.
First, consider what comprises a “backpack”. If your assignment looks like a bag with two shoulder straps, you fail.
Second, relook at the information in the Module – the focus is on user-centeredness and empathy. WHAT are people feeling and experiencing – and what/how do you want your backpack to make them feel (and how so)? What senses could your product impact? What experiences do you want them to be prepared for and how so? If…you stock your pack with standard virus protection stuff…and that’s it…you fail.
Third, generate a big ole list of innovative aspects of your new backpack, and then pick the best and most important ones.
Finally, write a brief description of the backpack and create an annotated SKETCH of the product.
If when you are done – your backpack looks like the backpack you have sitting over there in the corner…. and you just filled it with hand sanitizer and extra masks…..you REALLY will not get a passing grade. Think harder!
Discipline Awareness
By now you should have perused one
or several scholarly journals in your field and have a good idea of what
kinds of research have emerged in the past few years. Choose one article that you found that interests you the most and please answer the following questions (and feel free to provide any other information that you noticed in your search).
What are some of the main topics that have been published on in the journals you looked at?
What kind of data does your field use to draw its conclusions? (literally, what do they study? e.g. interviews, plasma, photographs, demographics, etc.)
What
kind of analytical methods do they use? (how do they study the above
data? e.g. code interview answers, analyze passages from legal briefs,
observe physical effects of a chemical, etc.)

3 Faces of Eve
VIDEO – First paragraph should include: 1. A couple sentences of descriptive
information such as the year of release, main characters, company releasing the video, and the
type of video (documentary, dramatic movie, etc.) 2. Next, what is the main theme or focus of
the work? 3. Any other information you deem pertinent about the video overall—its impact,
appropriateness for review, etc.
VIDEO BODY OF REVIEW – Discuss first the video itself, the plot, characters, and
conclusion. If the work is thematic, does the movie present the theme well, and with clarity?
Does the plot make sense, and if not, why not. If the work is a documentary, what is the reason
for its presentation? What are the producers trying to say and do they make their point?
Next, relate the work to our class. How does the work fit within the class topics? Does
the movie agree or disagree with what you have learned? Has “Hollywood” exaggerated or
diminished certain areas of relevance or did they remain true to reality?
Last, discuss the style and utility of the work. Was it easy to watch? Easy to understand
and follow the plot or did it meander around? Do the characters seem believable or not, and why.
Does the work offer anything to viewers? In other words, what is unique about this work? Who
should watch it and why?
STYLE should be Times New Roman, 12pt, double spaced, one inch margins, and
approximately 750-1000 words (3-4 pages), not including your header. For books, do not
include more than 2 quotes, and keep them SHORT. Provide the page number in
parenthesis. If you quote from a video, state who makes the comment, and in what context.
Do not tell me that the book/video is boring, or conversely, that it is interesting. The point
of a review is to provide potential readers of the review with enough information so they
can decide if a work is worth buying and reading or watching.
Feel free to either criticize or praise, (or both), but make sure your comments are
supported.

Modern American Politics
The book “Four Hats in The Ring” is needed for this assignment. There is two parts to this assignment.
For Part I: Please answer the following questions in a 1-3 page document, typed, double spaced. (I recommend using Microsoft Word or another word processor so you can spell check your work, then copy and paste your answers into the Discussion Forum.)
What is Lewis Gould’s thesis is Four Hats in the Ring?
What evidence does he present to substantiate that the Election of 1912 gave rise to what he called “the birth of Modern American Politics.”
Of the four candidates running for President, who seems to best reflect the reform-based ideas of the day otherwise known as progressivism. Explain your answer.
Part I is due by February 2, Wednesday before 9 pm.
For Part II: create a separate thread to answer these question I would like you to respond to the following question (on a separate thread from Part I) and then reply to at least two other students’ answers.
When Gould writes about the election of 1912, he seems to speak about countervailing forces. On the one hand, he talks about the birth of Modern American Politics. On the other hand, in the epilogue he almost wistfully writes: “Four distinguished citizens actually sought the presidency in a campaign of serious ideas and elevated discourse.” Writing in 2008, he concluded “that such an outcome now seems inconceivable in contemporary America…”
What is the legacy of the election of 1912 and the what impact (if any) does it exert on the state of politics in the aftermath of the 2020 election?
Part II including your replies are due on February 4, Friday before 9 pm.
