How models of evidence-based practice are used in nursing practice

Models of Evidence-Based Practice
Objective: Illustrate how models of evidence-based practice are used in nursing practice
Assignment Overview: In this writing assignment, you will describe PICOT and other models of evidence-based practice.
Deliverables: A two page (500-word paper)
Step 1: Review the Summary
Context: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) carries with it a risk of potential hypothermia and significant pain subsequent to the operation. The potential link between heightened postoperative pain and this associated risk of hypothermia requires further research.
Objective: To determine whether the use of warming gowns during the TKA procedure has a positive effect on a patient’s postoperative pain.
For further reference, read the attached article: Benson, E., McMillan, D., & Ong, B. (2012). The effects of active warming on patient temperature and pain after total knee arthroplasty. American Journal of Nursing, 112(5), 26-33.
Step 2: Review the five models
Review the five models of evidence-based practice:
PICOT Model for Writing Questions (Model 1)
The Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice to Promote Quality Care (Model 2)
Multidisciplinary Evidence-Based Practice Model (Model 3)
Care Bundles (Model 4)
Stetler Model of Research Utilization (Model 5)
Step 3: Write a two-page (500-word) paper
Write a paper briefly illustrating how each of the five models might be used in nursing practice. Use the article provided as the research problem in question. Address the following questions in your paper:
Briefly summarize the five models of evidence-based practice.
How might each of these models be implemented in practice to the research problem described in the article?
Which model(s) would you recommend for implementation to this research problem? Why?
Conclude your paper with your recommendation of which of the model(s) would best be applied to the research problem and why?

Intercultural Communication.

Discussion Prompt
Watch the following interview from 1971 with former boxing champion Muhammad Ali where he discusses he views about interracial marriage.

Video Link: https://youtu.be/zq7rgl3VyLU

Watch the following news story about Richard and Mildred Loving. Their interracial marriage eventually led to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1967 that made it legal for people of different races to marry in all U.S. states.

Video Link: https://youtu.be/bLngXMpv8Z4

When it comes to interracial dating and marriage, there seems to two different adages: “Birds of a feather flock together” and “Opposites attract.” Based on your own personal experience, which of the two adages is more accurate? Why do you think this way? Do you agree or disagree with Muhammad Ali’s views on interracial marriage? Why or why not? Do you think communication is more difficult for people in an interracial marriage, such as Richard and Mildred Loving? Why or why not?

Conduct the necessary financial analysis using appropriate techniques, tools and frameworks. Make decisions and recommendations based on the analysis and consider ethical implications and limitations.
Learning outcomes
Demonstrate understanding of core contemporary financial management theory, techniques and practice.
Critically evaluate and effectively communicate recommendations to address financial management issues.
Apply financial management theory and techniques to professional practice in an ethical manner.
Task
Context
Aftab Pty Ltd is one of the leading family-owned supermarket chains in Australia. In the past, the company has been investing substantially in capital projects. The Vice President (VP) of Operations is very keen to continue spending on capital by opening new stores.
Aftab Pty Ltd is currently struggling to compete in the present market conditions as it has a limited online presence. To improve the situation, one of the suggestions from the CEO is to invest heavily in upgrading its technology.
Whether the company is looking to expand by opening new stores or to invest in technological upgrades, they will need to raise substantial finance and have applied for a bank loan. You have been hired as a financial analyst to analyse Aftab’s current financial condition. During the review, your key focus is on analysing the financial performance of the company and mapping its growth pathway. A summary of selected financial information and ratios for the past 5 years has been provided to you.

Print version: Aftab Pty Ltd Financial Ratios 2017-2021
Written Report
Write a report for the management team that addresses points 1 to 5 below:
Comment on the five-year performance trends for Aftab Pty Ltd’s liquidity and profitability using the relevant ratios provided. Choose another company in the same industry (e.g. supermarket and grocery stores), preferably a publicly-listed company with easy access to the required relevant financial information for benchmarking (e.g. IBISWorld and/or annual reports). Compare the performance trends of the two companies and discuss the specific areas in which Aftab Pty Ltd compares positively and negatively with the competitor.
Using the DuPont Method, provide a critical analysis of Aftab Pty Ltd’s Return on Equity (ROE) performance for the last five years relative to the competitor you have chosen. (Presume there are no preference shares for Aftab Pty Ltd.)
During 2020, Aftab Pty Ltd experienced a high level of product returns (refunds) due to Covid. The VP of Operations proposed those refunds to be posted in the 2021 results to give some breathing space for 2020. Discuss the ethical implications of this proposal from the VP of Operations.
Aftab Pty Ltd is also considering converting their company into a public company so that it can raise additional finance for expansion by issuing shares to the public. Evaluate the pros and cons of the private company structure as compared to a public company.
Based on your analysis and discussion, make recommendations as to what are the current strengths and weaknesses of Aftab Pty Ltd as compared with the chosen competitor. Highlight any areas (and appropriate suggestions) for improvement. Identify and discuss the limitations of your analysis.
Procedures
Your report should be presented in a report format following the AIB Style Guide. Please use the AIB Report Template document to format your report.
Use the AIB-preferred Microsoft Word settings per the AIB Style Guide.
Please refer to the 8006FMGT Assessment Exemplar for how to structure your presentation and arguments in this assessment. In each section of your report, please define the financial concepts and/or critical theories before calculations/analyses.
The required word length for this report is 2,000 words (plus 10% tolerance, excluding tables and reference list). Please focus on analysis and interpretation of the data, addressing implications, and providing suggestions/recommendations where possible linked to your analysis and supported by relevant financial principles, concepts and/or theoretical frameworks.
We have provided a PDF Formula Sheet of all relevant formulas from the textbook.
To support your arguments, you are required to use at least five (5) relevant and credible references for this report (in addition to the sources of data for the competitor you choose to focus on in Step 1 above).
As per the AIB Style Guide, your references must be from credible sources such as academic journal articles, academic texts, professional/industry-related journals, government reports and formal company documents. Ideally, relevant academic journal articles should be used for academic discussion.

Technological determinism &social forces

Overview: Technological determinism is the notion that media technologies influence and dictate processes of social change. Contrary to technological determinism, many scholars argue that social forces determine technologies such as cultural norms, economic pressures, and legal regulations.
Task: Juxtapose (1) Marshall McLuhan’s technology/technological determinism: “the medium is the message” and (2) Social Forces: human agency, cultural norms, economic pressures, policy, and legal regulations of media. Supporting information is found in the assigned readings, videos, Course Materials via Blackboard, and outside sources.
Rubric: Each student/group is required to provide answers to the following:
Briefly state what stands out to you while juxtaposing the two standpoints.
Briefly discuss one difference between the two.
Briefly discuss one similarity between the two.
State your position/perspective of each of them.
Tie (1) McLuhan’s technology/technological determinism and (2) social forces to organizational communication, such as organizational structure and policy development, in relation to technological change.

Report on Strategic Financial Decisions

Summary
Write a 2500-word report based on a financial scenario, given the context and financial information provided. Analyse two options proposed by the case study management team to maximise their company’s value. Conduct the necessary financial analysis using the information provided and the appropriate techniques, tools and frameworks. Make decisions and recommendations based on the analysis, considering all relevant implications, challenges and limitations.
Learning outcomes
Demonstrate understanding of core contemporary financial management theory, techniques and practice.
Critically evaluate and effectively communicate recommendations to address financial management issues.
Apply financial management theory and techniques to professional practice in an ethical manner.
Task
Context
The Capstone Assessment follows on from the financial review of Aftab Pty Ltd undertaken in the First Assessment.
Aftab Pty Ltd understands that, these days, taking your business online is not a choice but a necessity. Aftab Pty Ltd’s management team have brainstormed two options with the objective of maximising Aftab’s value. It is expected that with the online presence, demand for their products would increase. As part of the management team and a financial analyst, you have been asked to investigate the viability of the different options. The two options A and B are outlined below.
Option A: Build an online presence
Aftab Pty Ltd’s management is evaluating a proposal to invest in a modern network system to build up their online presence. The associated infrastructure of the new network would cost $500,000 (including installation costs) and has a useful life of 5 years. The infrastructure will be depreciated during these years as per the straight-line method and has no scrap value at the end of its life. The enhanced online presence due to the new network system would generate $56,000 per year in net profit over the next five years.
To evaluate the above project, utilise the capital budgeting techniques that you have studied in this subject. For this purpose, you are recommended to use a required rate of return of 10%. Please note that no additional working capital is required for this project.
Option B: Outsource the online presence project overseas
Aftab Pty Ltd is investigating an opportunity to outsource the online presence project to a developing country. Through the outsourcing program, it is expected that the total cash fixed cost will drop by $200,000. The cost reduction will be achieved through access to cheap call centre facilities. Aftab’s current cost structure per annum (pre-outsourcing) is given in the table below:
Number of units produced per annum
15,000
Sales price per unit
$80
Variable cost per unit
$38
Total cash fixed cost per annum
$450,000
Total depreciation per annum
$100,000
You have been asked to assess the above plans and present your recommendations.
Print version: financial information for Option A & Option B
Written report
Write a report for the management team that addresses points 1 to 4 below:
Complete a financial evaluation of Option A using both NPV and simple Payback Period (not the discounted payback) capital budgeting techniques. Discuss which one is better and why. Use the payback cut-off period of 2 years for the evaluation, and use 12% as the discount rate to calculate the NPV. In assessing Option A, your report should also consider a sensitivity analysis on the NPV for the discount rate changing from 12% to 17%. Investing in a foreign country can be classed as a ‘risky investment’. How can the risk-return principle be applied here and, from a financial modelling point of view, how can the risks of the project be analysed?
Complete a critical assessment of Option B using break-even analysis. Calculate and evaluate the current accounting and cash break-even points of the business. Your analysis of Option B should then include the revised break-even points (both cash and accounting break-even points) considering the outsourcing option. Based on market research, you anticipate sales with the new outsourcing option to remain the same at 15,000 units. Comment on the financial and non-financial implications of Option B.
A further idea briefly discussed by Aftab’s executive team (but not as an option) was to extend the payment terms for customers from 20 days to 30 days. What are the implications of increasing the payment terms of customers to the cash cycle? Discuss possible scenarios where providing an extended payment term could benefit Aftab Pty Ltd.
Based on your analysis in points 1 and 2, recommend either Option A or Option B, or both, to the Aftab management team. Your recommendation should also include a detailed limitations section covering the challenges of using NPV, Payback Period and break-even points in the decision making.
Procedures
Your report should be presented in a report format following the AIB Style Guide. Please use the AIB Report Template document to format your report.
Use the AIB-preferred Microsoft Word settings as per the AIB Style Guide.
Please refer to the 8006FMGT Assessment Exemplar for how to structure your presentation and arguments in this assessment. In each section of your report, please define the financial concepts and/or critical theories before calculations/analyses.
The required word length for this report is 2,500 words (plus 10% tolerance, excluding tables and reference list).
To support your arguments, you are required to use at least six (6) relevant and credible references for this report.
As per the AIB Style Guide, your references must be from credible sources such as academic journal articles, academic texts, professional/industry-related journals, government reports and formal company documents. Ideally, relevant academic journal articles should be used for academic discussion.

Article Abstract Example
SUMMARY
In recent
months, there has been talk between Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines of
the possibility of a merger between the two companies. The hurt that the
airlines took after 9/11 was devastating, and the merger would strengthen the
base of the two companies and create one, larger, but more successful company.
As of now, the companies are hearing from their respective unions, and seeing
if the unions can work out a deal to make the merger possible. If the unions can
agree, then the two companies vow to declare their intention to merge. If the
merger goes through, economists predict that four other American owned airlines
will attempt to merge as well. The most likely pairs would be American Airlines
and US Airways, and the other merge between United Airlines and Continental
Airlines.
ISSUES
The
underlying issue that is encouraging these companies to merge is the fact that
most of these companies have been reconstructed under Chapter 11
bankruptcy. According to “The Economist”, the
American airline industry has seen a 39% decrease in employment, a 30% decrease
in wages, and in total there has been over $20 billion defaulted on pensions.
The companies believe that if they merge, they will be able to re-establish
stability in the airline industry and create more jobs and earnings in the long
run. Another big reason for the merger would because of the prices of gas. Many
of the companies are using planes that are very old and thus very inefficient
when it comes to fuel usage. If the merger was allowed then companies could use
the older planes less often and eventually gain enough money and stability to
purchase new planes that are more environmentally friendly and fuel efficient.
The big reason why the airlines are trying to push this past right now is
because they know a Republican President in the white house is more
big-business friendly, and he is more probable to allow the merger of such
large corporations.
ANALYSIS
Supporters
of the merger argue that this will benefit the airlines in the long run, and it
will create more jobs and more flight efficiency. The airlines will be able to
create more comprehensive flight plans that will allow consumers more ability
to get from one place to another with greater ease. Also, supporters of the
merger say that if the merger does not go through, then flights to low use
airports will be lowered, affecting the availability of travel from scarcely
visited destinations. Thos e who oppose the merger say that the merges will
only increase travel prices because of less competition, and the consumers will
be the losers in all of this. They also say that less popular airlines such as
Southwest or Midwest airlines will rush in to
the small airports and ensure that flights will continue from the scarcely
traveled destinations.
