As educators, we have a big responsibility in shaping the future generations. Matthew 28:19-20 says that herefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Being an educator is an uphill battle. Teachers can make or break a student’s future. Although the goal of education is to ensure that learning happens, it is not always that easy. More than preparing for the lesson and materials, teachers should also ensure that students are motivated in learning. Without this motivation, it would be very hard to get students attention and more so maintain it. This is not an easy path but Matthew 19:26 said, But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Everything is possible in eyes of the Lord. Teachers are given this much because God knows he can do it. God will never give a battle to a person he can’t do and according to Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
As Christian educators we should be able to support our students emotionally. Teacher’s emotional support is recognized as an important source of student development and learning. Eve Kikas and Xin Tang published a journal article entitled Child-perceived teacher emotional support, its relations with teaching practices, and task persistence at the European Journal of Psychology of Education, Vol. 34, No. 2 (April 2019) which aimed to study the effects of perceived emotional support and teaching practices on children’s task-persistent learning behavior. The result of their study revealed that students who were getting emotional support from their teachers creates a context where they feel safe, which will make them confident in trying new things, exerting more effort, and engaging more in the Even the simple actions done for the students are important and will matter to each of them. This is backed up by the study of Clemente (2018) entitled Interpersonal Justice in the Classroom: The Role of Respectful Treatment and Nature of Teacher-Student Relationships on Teacher and Student Outcomes, which revealed that the way a teacher treats a student with respect led to a higher perception of the teacher competence and fairness. It also improves the students’ interpersonal skills in the classroom and helped them to communicate effectively with the professor, lastly, it also revealed that this positive relationship lowers the negative responses from the students such as dropping the course or reduce work effort. discussion/learning.

For me the most important thing to remember when working in any type of school, public or Christian, is this, that place is our mission field. God has placed us there for a reason and if we view it as a mission field, we will see not just the importance of academics but the importance of seeing our students as precious children of God. On my desk I have a wooden block that says, “For such a time as this” from the book of Esther (KJV, 2017). When I am faced with students with behavioral, emotional, and social challenges, I remember the story of Esther and how God placed her right where she needed to be to save her people. I am given 9 months with each of my students and if I don’t use that time to effectively, not only to teach them the curriculum but also model God’s love for them, then I am missing the mark.
The Bible is filled with stories of people with behavioral challenges and not one of them was turned away by Jesus. The Great Commission was not issued for only specific people. Christian school teachers are able to meet the needs of individual students with behavior challenges only if they are open to receiving ALL of God’s children (Ackerman, 2008). While it can be challenging, we as teachers have many resources we can use. The first thing we can do is to pray. Pray over the child, pray over our lessons, pray over our classroom. We can reach out to others to pray for us and our challenging student. We can also develop a strong classroom management plan that will offer us strategies for handling challenges. We have more resources available at our disposal than any other generation of teachers. The internet can provide research-based strategies, blogs, teacher groups, etc. that we can use to help with these challenges. One tool that I found for help with challenging students in a quick search on the internet was a tool using the acronym PRAISE. To help teachers apply their instructional skills to improving their students’ behavior, this article reviews the keys
to successful classroom management using the acronym PRAISE: Being Proactive, using Reinforcements, Assessing and analyzing the Intent of misbehavior, being Sincere, and Empowering the Holy Spirit in students (Ackerman, 2006 & Ackerman, 2007). This was foundusing a quick search and could be easily applied in our classrooms.
At the end of the day, I truly believe that we need to love our students like Jesus does. In twenty years, I don’t want my students to remember me as a fun teacher but as the teacher that truly valued them and believed in their ability to learn.

Midterm exam extra credit
Assignment should be roughly 500-800 words in length (going over 800 words is fine), and is due by the end of Friday, March 31. Write an analysis of the collaborative film project titled A Fair(y) Use Tale. You should both look closely at the film itself (https://youtu.be/CJn_jC4FNDo) and read Eric Faden’s article (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v0-K3N4jVInwyaPKTdOiCUgIbm8aK73x/view?usp=sharing) which provides further information on the project. You should then write an analysis of A Fair(y) Use Tale that draws on specifics from the film itself and the Faden article, as well as ties the film into the specific themes discussed in the readings and lecture from week 1 on remix culture.
social movement organizations
Paper Introduction (1/2 to 1 page)
-Produce an introduction to your social movement organizations and your social movement in about 1 page. Identify a national and/or local (city, county or state) movement organization, and provide their history in about half a page, with a short description of the social movement of which they are a part (no more than 1 page total for the intro, and no quotations in this part). Include a link to their websites in the bibliography. The rest of the paper will be about this movement. The second paper should use the same movement, and thus may reuse the same introduction from the first paper. Aside from the movement and introduction, the rest of the second paper must be unique from paper 1.
Paper Body (3 to 4 pages)
There are seven potential components of the body of the papers
1) News Media and the three theories
2) Resource Mobilization, part 1
3) Resource Mobilization, part 2
4) Resource Mobilization, part 3
5) Political Opportunity
6) Public Opinion and framing
7) Social Media and the three theories
Both papers must include 2-3 of these seven components, and the second paper must use two components that were not used in the first paper. Across both papers, components representing at least two of the three theories (political opportunity, resource mobilization, and framing) must have been be chosen. Across both papers, each of the components chosen should discuss a unique combination of concept and evidence, so there is no overlap or repetitiveness within your papers.
NEWS MEDIA EVIDENCE AND THREE THEORIES (1-2 pages)
Use of Proquest news database (or google news/similar) to research your movement — collect at least 10 documents covering at least one concept/measurement of at least one of the following – political opportunity, resource mobilization, or framing.
The measurement you choose must be specific, and you need to describe which single measure you used for each theory. Choose just just one measure for each theory – don’t report findings that are not meaningful, instead just choose a different measure. The valid measures are below:
your movement and some aspect of political opportunity theory (e.g., politicians, demographic change, generations, events, repression)
your movement and some aspect of resource mobilization theory (e.g., tactics, volunteers, funding, leaders)
your movement and some aspect of framing theory {e.g., collective action frames, frame alignment strategies, etc]
In the paper, you need to write is a summary of what you found in the news search. To do this, discuss at least one theme for each theory you chose, with at least three quotes for each theme. The theme would be something more specific you learned in the news articles about your concept. If its leaders you chose as your concept for resource mobilization, then the theme might be something related to context where the movement leader is mentioned, and the quotes might be 3 different examples showing different contexts where the movement leader is mentioned (e.g., while speaking at a rally, while speaking on a tv show, etc). And your theme could be the content or some other important factor that you found regarding how the leader acted in these 3 examples. You can present more than one theme, but each theme needs to have three quotes. In the paper, you should interpret the theme and explain how the quote is an example of the theme, and then provide the actual quote. This should be done for each quote presented. You should reference and discuss in a few sentences the course readings that discuss the theory/concept you used.
RESOURCE MOBILIZATION, pt 1 – funding (1-2 pages)
First, in a few sentences discuss/reference one of the resource mobilization readings that discusses funding (e.g. homeless and civil rights rights movements). Second, write about the possible funding, volunteer or other “free” resources available that might help your movement. This should be mainly based on search of the library funding database (guidestar at Madden, and others at Fresno city library and others such as “grant station”). Third, spend a few sentences discussing possible fundraising support through crowdfunding and other alternative means (e.g., fundly, kindful, donorsearch, doublethedonation, charityauctionstoday, etc).
Guidestar is a library database, so the librarians can help, but you can also search under “G” when you get to the Madden databases.
The following link provides access to a new Madden Library page describing several funding databases similar to guidestar, which can be used in addition to (or perhaps in replacement of) Guidestar,
https://guides.library.fresnostate.edu/c.php?g=289127&p=1927875
When searching databases, you should search various keywords and try various search terms to best fit your project. If the information is not available, or if the available information is not useful for the goals of the paper, then try other terms or search another database. You can use information from more than one search, and from more than one database.
Resource Mobilization, pt. 2 social movement industry / “Fields”
In a few sentences, discuss the readings on fields (E.g., LGBT article and the introductory chapter, and potentially others). Write about 1 page describing specific allied organizations (locally and/or nationally) that are not in the same movement organization, but have similar overall goals. You can google to search for similar organizations, or use something like Guidestar or volunteermatch.org or other sources, e.g., you might google, “resource guide to xx movement organizations”. How might your movement build a coalition with some of these groups: Write a few sentences about what the new groups have in common with your group, and what differences the groups would need to address if they were to unite in a coalition.
Resource Mobilization, Part 3 (1-2 pages)
See the article on homeless mobilization within the resource mobilization section of the course readings. In this article there is a table with a list of most of the types of concepts that have been considered as part of resource mobilization. Your task in this section would be to reference/discuss this source in a few sentences, define the concept you chose, and use at least one of these concepts to examine news, social media or online sources, in order to find examples of the concept(s) you chose that relate to your movement. Describe the concept and the quote from your source, then present the quote. Repeat 3 times (one for each quote).
POLITICAL OPPORTUNITY (1-2 pages)
Political Opportunity – Policies and elites
In a few sentences, reference/discuss the readings on political opportunity that discuss eltes (e.g., civil rights article and others) Write about some of the policies that are being considered (e.g., info from bill tracker) that will potentially impact the cause your movement is fighting for/against — provide bill info, link to petition, and contacts to at least one relevant legislator for your potential bill, e.g., email, twitter and phone. Include links to any action pages you created.
PUBLIC OPINION and FRAMING (1-2 pages)
Use the SDAsite to find an opinion question on the cause of your movement, run chi squared analyses for geography, race, class (and any other variables you find interesting such as gender, age, education), report findings about allies and resisters, and make suggestions about how the movement might reach out to these allies and resisting groups, particularly by using specific framing strategies. Make sure to specifically use the framing concepts from the readings — use at least one framing concept as an ideal strategy for reaching the allied or resisting group in each table.(frame alignment, frame bridging, frame amplification, etc. — see the Intro chapter, Best chapter, Kubal reading and others for examples). In a few sentences, use the literature to discuss/reference the concepts you chose. Of course, you need more than just broad statements, you need to offer a few suggestions about actual re-wordings, using the framing strategies, that might reach and mobilize people who are allies or resisters.
See the modules page for instructions on using SDA.
SOCIAL MEDIA (1-2 pages)
This component requires use of Nvivo. We will discuss Nvivo in class. If we do not cover this in time to use for the first paper, you should only consider using this component for the second paper. If you have another tool besides Nvivo to capture large numbers of social media posts, I might let you use that instead of Nvivo — just email for permission.
Use Ncapture to capture tweets on your movement and use Nvivo to analyze those tweets in relation to some aspect of framing, resource mobilization, or political opportunity. In the paper, you need to produce a word cloud based on these tweets, and interpret it in one sentence. You need to produce at least one theme you found interesting within the twitter data, and produce and interpret three quotes as a reflection of this theme. You are encouraged to present more than one theme, but if you do, remember that each theme you present needs to have three quotes. You should interpret the theme and explain how the quote is an example of the theme, and then provide the actual quote. This should be done for each quote presented.
The next part of your social media presentation involves a few paragraphs of writing interpreting the charts you will present in your paper from the Social Media analysis you complete with Nvivo:
1) bar chart [or map] from Nvivo on city in the USA with the most twitter activity
2) bar chart[s] from Nvivo on the year, month and day of the week when their movement has received the most action on Twitter
3) at least one other bar chart from Nvivo that you think might be informative to the movement
The above instructions will allow you to present the findings from your twitter search in a way that describes how twitter-sphere is portraying the movement, by referencing twitter coverage of one of the theories: framing, resource mobilization and political opportunity. Make sure to use the readings to develop a few sentences describing the theory/concept you chose.
Notes:
You should be clear as to where and how you gathered your information. Make sure you full cite any sources for information used in the paper. Online sources must include the live URL to the source. And you should cite the course literature when using the theories or concepts. Obviously, a bibliography is required. The bibliography and title page do not count toward the word count. Quotations are not allowed from the course literature, but are allowed from other sources (news, social media, etc), to be used as evidence.
The second paper will include one additional component (which entails no new writing) that will be discussed after submitting the first paper.
• Identify and discuss the ethical principles, theories, virtues, and/or values. Include arguments or contextual information from reading readings.
PRESENTATION
Throughout the course, you have analyzed, interpreted, and reflected upon the readings, films/videos, and discussions as they apply to healthcare administration. Based upon the subject matter selected by you, write a 18 page paper, excluding the title page, abstract, appendices, and references utilizing the APA 7th Edition Guidelines. A minimum of ten references that have been published within the last five (5) years is required. All references must
come from peer-reviewed journals, edited texts, or textbooks. Websites are not included in
the required references. The utilization of Grammarly may be beneficial in the writing of your paper. Grammarly is an online grammar checking, spell checking, and plagiarism detection platform. For more information, please visit https://www.grammarly.com/
Your papers should:
• Include a summary introduction and historical overview describing what is at stake and your position on the issue.
• Identify and discuss the ethical principles, theories, virtues, and/or values. Include arguments or contextual information from reading readings.
• Weigh the (ethical) strengths and weaknesses of the available courses of action.
• Argue for a course of action and defend that argument against at least one serious objection.
Within the paper, please address the following questions.
1) What is the ethical issue/problem?
2) What are the ramifications of this ethical issue in the United States? Are there any global implications?
3) Are there any additional legal issues present?
4) What facts have the most bearing on your ethical decision about the issue/problem?
5) Are there any other external or internal factors to be considered?
6) How does this issue affect public health? What are the implications for public health professionals?
7) Evaluate the options by addressing the following questions.
a. Which option produces the best consequences?
b. Which option respects the duties, virtues, rights or obligations of those involved?
c. Which option treats people equally or proportionately?
Your presentation must have a minimum of 25 slides (this does not include your title slide, reference slides, or
any pure image slide). Bring a printed copy of your presentation and on a flash drive. Please note the following:
• The title slide should include your names, date, title, course name, and Chicago State University.
• The slides should be neat, typed, and well organized.
• Do not use all caps!!!
• Crowded slides are difficult to read. Some experts suggest using the 5/5/5 rule: no more than five words
per line of text, five lines of text per slide, or five text-heavy slides in a row.
• Limit each slide to one main idea.
• Cite your sources utilizing APA 7
th Edition Guidelines.
• Make sure there is a clear color contrast between the background and the type.
• Avoid using distracting features like moving objects, sounds or animations.
• Do not read your slides verbatim. Deliver your comments in a more conversational presentation style.
• Create a separate set of notes for your presentation. PowerPoint allows you to download a copy of slides
with the ability to write in comments.
• Please review and practice your presentation before presenting.
• Any font type is fine, but whatever you use, be consistent and stick to one font type.
