I think the video of “Big Data: Biomedicine” was very clear and easy to understand. There are many good information about the big data in the video and how it will improve healthcare. It’s not only helping healthcare providers, but it also helps the patients. One of the key takeaways I derived from the video and their implications for the future of healthcare is big data answered questions that we couldn’t answer before. I believe that many years ago, there were many unanswered questions about curtain disease because of the lack of data. Another key takeaway that I derived from the video is big data helps figure out a cure and primary prevention for diseases. Having the availability of data allow doctors to make better recommendations and allow them to come out with personalized prescriptions for individuals. Another key takeaway that I derived from the video is big data helps researchers to test new hypotheses. For example, try out something that they have never done before. The more data that they have, the better the answer they will get. Another key takeaway that I derived from the video is better data security. Many people are afraid of sharing their data or information because they concerned about security and privacy. I think it’s very important to make people feel safe, comfortable, and make sure that they know that their information is not going to be used against them. By doing that, It will help get more data and more people to participate in the study. Making sure people feel like it will have personal benefit to them is also important because people want something back when they give away something. The more data we have the better chances of getting the right answers. One additional area that important to me where I think big data could make a difference in healthcare is finance area.
Member 2: The video The Big Data, was interesting to watch the way how information is stored, transferred and interpreted in healthcare is remarkable. The way information is being used daily in the field is growing at a fast pace everyday and new discoveries are changing the way of the world.
The four main things I got from the video is how information is stored, millions of people’s information about there health is collected to databases. The way information is stored has to be protecting to highest level of security to parent breeches in these systems, I learned about how the information is used in the healthcare filed, they gather the information of all types of health status and look at the bigger picture to find new discoveries for diseases. The information is also used to provide care, the computer system helps providers find different interventions for their care, It talked about how the information is shared with other systems that are interoperable. meaning the information can be transferred and understood by the system. The systems collect the information storing it for later use.The information used by the system are protected, and people have to confident in these systems to be secure at all times. Beeches in the systems can promote things like identity theft.
Bog data will be important in promoting and providing care with people that go to the hospital on a regular basis with a disease like lupus. Lupus is an auto immune diseases with no real cause of it or cure. People suffer with rashes, pain in bones and joints, tiredness, weakness, and other symptoms. But this disease been around for many years and science hasn’t cracked the code to this disease. Many people suffer from it, usually women African American women in their late 20 and 30’s. If the big data is used to interpret the information from all lupus patients and find a cure for it that would be a new discovery. Using the information technology is the best way now in healthcare, we have to learn to adapt to society today and now and for the future.
