Discussion Board Replies: Stages of Displacement Resources

Read the “Stages of Displacement – The Immigration Experience of Latinos” article found below for context. Respond to the 2 post below. Reply must be at least 150 words to each post and must add to substance.***

1.) Stage one: Seeking Opportunity

There are five stages of displacement presented by the writers within the immigration experience of Latinos. The first of which, is that of seeking opportunities. One of the primary themes was the ideal of having the opportunity to make life the way you want it to be, (Serrata, C & Fischer, J, 2013). I believe this to be true for any American citizen. As long as the desire is legal and isn’t beyond that which is realistic, it can be achieved through wisdom, discipline and diligence. The process of transition can be grueling, but the products can be better than the procedures. According to the information gathered, one research showed how assimilation differed due to factors such as age, gender, level of education etc., (Berry, 2001). I would handle this mindset of searching for opportunities with first, my personal, related struggles, and then my testimony of gaining favor in spite of certain perceived disqualification, then help them throughout a step by step application of their passion. This would also involve getting the necessary certifications to fulfill the desire.

Stage two: Emotional Reactions

One of the themes discussed in this stage is anxiety over adjusting to new surroundings. Moving out of a place of familiarity to uncharted territory is complex. To do certain things for the first time that were never required before, can be daunting. According to the research, it was reported that one confessed to experiencing anxiety over adjusting to the new lifestyle and learning to drive, (Serrata & Fischer, 2013). The way that I would guide this client, would be to reveal to them as much positivity within the culture as possible as well as the positive effects of engagement. I have to show a great degree of sensitivity toward their acclamation process while helping to reduce the fear of the unknown by placing them in as many situations of acceptance as possible.

Stage three: Adjustment

The theme that I noticed to be prevalent in this stage was in the males experiencing the change of becoming less family oriented. According to the research, one participant confessed to becoming “less family oriented,” (Serrata & Fischer, 2013). The contrast was made as far as having limited family gatherings while in the U.S. as opposed to in Mexico. The way that I would handle clients with this reality would be to show them the need for balance in relationships. Sometimes a degree of space can get more things done that could be be more beneficial to the relationships when they do gather. I would show them that sometimes a degree of distance can can actually bring them closer together.

Stage four: Rationalization

One form of rationale that it was reported to be used was that of ” a better life for children,” (Serrata & Fischer, 2013). The idea is making a sacrifice for the children’s sake. The way in which I would approach this is to reassure them of the unselfish motivating factor of their children’s well-being. I would also show them the long-term benefits of their sacrifice. Bilingual people can be a valuable asset.

Stage five: Acknowledgement

One of the themes in this stage is that of no real acceptance, just acknowledging the changes. The changes are just tolerated. There is no true joy, just condoning the actuality. In this case, I would stress the need for contentment. I would go about this with discretion and sensitivity. I would have to also warn them not to make an idol out themselves or even self-medicate with their own personal sacrifice. This can become a dangerous mindset. Also, to focus on the good aspects of the transition is easier said than done, but very possible. Paul said, ” For I have learned, in whatever state I am, therewith to be content,” (King James Bible, 1988. Philippians 4:11).

2.)
Seeking Opportunities

One theme that has been noted of Latino immigrants seeking opportunities in the United States is that they often feel alienated. Feelings of inferiority, experiencing discrimination, or being called derogatory names that cause the person sense that they somehow stand out, are all contributing factors to the theme of alienation (Serrata & Fischer, 2013). As a counsellor, I would ensure to empathetically listen to their experiences and feelings, and then provide encouragement by helping them to develop a sense of self-worth and confidence so that they can find new opportunities and begin to adjust to a new life in a new country. By doing this the client will feel respected as a person and cared for, which will build trust in the therapeutic relationship.

Emotional Reactions

Anxiety is a common emotional reaction, as the immigrant Latino is suddenly in an unfamiliar place and may have never been exposed to American culture before (Serrata & Fischer, 2013). New situations, people and a different primary language among those around them can be very disconcerting. In sessions with this client, perhaps I would ask them questions about their country and culture or ask them to teach me some phrases in their language to help them feel comfortable.

Adjustment

Role changes can be an enormous adjustment. For female Latinos, learning how to drive in the U.S. is not something they would have done in Mexico, and in becoming more independent by having a job or going to school, they are giving up the full-time care-giving role they were used to (Serrata & Fischer, 2013). Giving them reassurance that they do not have to adjust on their own can bring relief, and I could answer questions they may have regarding these new roles.

Rationalization

The transition of moving to a new country is often accompanied by grief and loss, and one way that Latinos may deal with this is by rationalizing that their reason for coming was to give their children a better life (Serrata & Fischer, 2013). As their counsellor, I would help them to acknowledge and work through their grief and loss.

Acknowledgement

In this stage, the reality of the way life is for them now is accepted, but this does not mean that the person feels happy about it (Serrata & Fischer, 2013). I would help the client to explore ideas of what might bring them joy in their new home and encourage them to engage in these things.

Dividend Analysis

Stock of Choice Would be TESLA
Part 1: Dividend Analysis (two to three paragraphs):
Create a table that illustrates the annual dividends per share paid by your selected company over the past 8 years. If the company has not paid dividends for 8 years, include as many years as available.
Calculate the growth in annual dividends per share each year and include this annual growth rate in your table.
To find the dividends your company has paid in the past 8 years, review the BUS401 |Picking a Company that Pays DividendsLinks to an external site. video from Week 1.
Calculate the average dividend growth rate over the following periods:
the most recent 8 years,
the most recent 5 years, and
the most recent 3 years.
Summarize the trend in the dividend growth rates.
Have the dividend growth rates increased or decreased? By how much? Has the increase or decrease been steady or varied from year to year?
Determine two distinct estimates of the future dividend growth rate for this company: a high-end growth rate and a low-end growth rate. You are to choose these growth rates based on what is reasonable from the data you have on the company’s dividend growth in prior years, as presented in your table. The two future dividend growth rates can be any of following:
the most recent year growth rate;
the average growth rate over the 8-year period;
the average growth rate over the most recent 5 years;
the average growth rate of the most recent 3 years; or
a growth rate you select that is reasonable, given the 8-year, 5-year, and 3-year averages, as well as the recent year growth rates.
NOTE: Both dividend growth rates must be lower than the required rate of return used in the constant growth formula. See Part 2 below for the required rate of return to use in the constant growth formula.
Justify the determined the high-end dividend growth rate and low-end dividend growth rates for your company. In your justification, provide a least two financial facts from your Week 1 and Week 2 assignments to support your determination.
Part 2: Preliminary Valuation: (two to three paragraphs)
Calculate the stock price for your selected company using the constant growth formula and the low-end dividend growth rate you determined in Part 1. Show all calculations for this estimated stock price using the low-end dividend growth rate.
For the required rate of return (r), use the following assumptions:
For a large capitalization company (greater than $10.0 billion in market capitalization) use 10.0%.
For a mid-cap company (between $2.0 billion and $10.0 billion in market capitalization) use 12.0%.
For a small-cap company (less than $2.0 billion in market capitalization) use 15.0%.
Show your calculations.
In a similar manner, calculate another estimate of the stock price for your selected company using the constant growth formula and the high-end dividend growth rate.
Use the same assumptions for the required rate of return (r) that you used for the low-end stock price, other than using the high-end dividend growth rate.
Show your calculations.
Compare each of the two stock prices you just calculated to the current stock price per share of the company.
State whether each constant growth stock price (low-end and high-end) is above or below the current price.
State whether each constant growth stock price (low-end and high-end) indicates if the stock price is currently under-valued or over-valued in the market.
Determine your concluded stock value, based on the two calculations using the constant growth formula.

Little Red Riding Hood Interpretation

This essay was written based on the following prompt:
there are numerous possible interpretations of “Little Red Riding
Hood,” including religion, the seasons, and the loss of innocence. Which interpretation do
you find the most convincing, and why? Make a strong argument using the texts. I have attattached the needed texts within files. (Grimm). The essay was not well received. the biggest issues were about wordiness and arguments that aren’t well supported. Please do not simply summarize the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but rather analyze the many symbols, actions, thoughts, and happenings within the story that signify, represent, and support the chosen interpretation.

There should be some comments on the word document that is uploaded. Please let me know if you cannot see them (Use a computer when opening the word document, I think they might not show on mobile devices). The essay was written to interpret the story of little red riding hood as a loss of innocence. If you feel that the interpretation needs to be changed entirely, I shall leave that to your expertise. If the essay is received well, I shall leave a generous tip. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and may God bless you!

1) Time pressure affects performance
2) Anxiety affects performance
3) Why does anxiety affect performance? – this is the bit about diverting resources from the task at hand and focusing on feeling anxious
4) Time pressure and anxiety as a possible interaction
5) Your study – you should also mention that in our experiment we have measured both the trait and state anxiety, and explain why this is important.

For the method. The participants completed the experiment online instead of in-person. Please note that as it is explained in the comment section as well.

There is two video link which explains the data and the approach on the assignment. It is crucial as it explains a lot. Please watch it through even though it is a bit long.

research study investigating the neural basis

finding an empirical journal article (i.e., a study published in a scientific journal with introduction/background, method, results, and discussion/conclusion sections) and submitting a written summary of the article (approx. 2.5-3.5 pages long) with an additional 1 to 1.5 pages of your own personal comments, for a total of about 4-5 double-spaced pages. The article MUST report a research study investigating the neural basis of some type of mental and/or behavioral function or process or psychological disorder. An article that ONLY reviews and describes other studies and/or theories or presents a new model or theory, WITHOUT an experiment/study actually conducted by the author(s) is NOT ACCEPTABLE. It should ideally consist of one substantial (or 2 shorter) experiments or studies at the most. An article that’s TOO SHORT or TOO LONG with 3 or more experiments or studies, will be difficult to summarize effectively and receive a good grade. Also avoid anything that seems too technical, or complex. You should be able to generally understand the purpose, method(s), findings, and explanations in order to effectively summarize and discuss the research.

For the personal commentary section you can consider issues like: Whether and how the study relates to any material covered in class? Did you find the research and results interesting? Why or why not? What were the best and/or worst aspects of the study? Did they mention something unusual or unexpected? To what extent were you able to understand what they did and found? What did you find difficult? Did you like or dislike the way the study was conducted? Why? What do think could be improved or what would you have done differently? Were their conclusions justified given their results and/or any methodological problems? What, if any, are the real-world implications of their results? If you were an investigator doing this research, how would you follow it up?
