You are also strongly encouraged to review the other recommended resources as they may assist you.
For this assignment, you will assume the role of an Urban Planning Director, and you will discuss the same urban location and focus policy area you have used throughout this class. You will create a professional presentation for your selected municipalitys city council that will provide a high-level overview of the Urban Plan you have developed and demonstrate that you have assessed its future impacts on budgeting and community development. This presentation ties to the Week 4 Urban Planning Report for Council final paper.
In your presentation,
Indicate the municipality and focus or policy area that the plan will be developed for.
Assess the current population and demographics of the community.
Explain how the makeup of the community should guide policymaking.
Assess the needs of the residents, the factors identified through the SWOT analysis, and how this local perspective might differ from a regional or national perspective.
Plan for land use (e.g., dedicated, mixed use, green space, economic development, revitalization or renewal, etc.).
Examine transit availability.
Outline three short-term goals (35 years) in order of priority, including an explanation of how priority was established.
Outline three long-term goals (710 years) in order of priority, including an explanation of how priority was established.
Explain any legal issues.
Indicate the theoretical model used to support your plan.
Estimate the budget forecast; what are the implications (e.g., municipal bonds, grants, private enterprise funding, etc.)?

PAPER: Federalism
Description
Purpose: You are probably familiar with some of the many issues that pertain to federalism (the constitutional powers of the national government vs. the constitutional powers of the state governments). These issues are typically quite contentious and grab a lot of public attention (such as same-sex marriage and marijuana legalization). Federalism is often the answer as to why laws differ from state to state on various issues. The purpose of this writing assignment is to examine specific issues on the basis of constitutional authority and determine the role of federalism in policy directives or Supreme Court rulings.

Perform research to find a recent article that explores and analyzes the topic youve chosen from a federalism perspective.
Step 4: Write the paper

Write your paper on a Word document.
Type your name and the date at the top of the first page.
Title: Write a title of each of the essays.
Center the title.
Font: Use an easy to read font like Times Roman or Garamond
Font Size: 11 or 12 is the standard font size
Font Style: just use regular text, no bolding or italics
Margins: use 1-inch margins on all sides (older versions of Word have bigger margins so you will need to change them)
Spacing: double-space your text, there is still one “standard” double-space between paragraphs

End-of-Life Issues
With our framework of ethical theories and principles in hand, we begin our look at some of the critical ethical issues in our contemporary world, starting with end-of-life issues. This assessment covers ethical questions related to end-of-life care. Passive euthanasia is the removal or refusal of life-sustaining treatment. Examples of passive euthanasia include removal of a feeding tube or a ventilator, or forgoing a life-prolonging surgery. Passive euthanasia is legal in all 50 states, and the principle of autonomy gives informed patients the right to refuse any and all treatments. Patients who are unable to make such decisions in the moment (because they are unconscious, for example) might have made their intentions clear beforehand with an advance directive or similar document. Things become more complicated, however, when a patient who is unable to make treatment choices has not made his or her wishes clear, either formally in a written document, or informally in conversations with family members or friends. Another problem concerns cases in which there is disagreement about whether the treatment is sustaining the life of a person in the full sense or merely as a body that, because of severe and irreversible brain trauma, is no longer truly a living person.
Active euthanasia, or assisted suicide, introduces further difficult moral questions. A patient who has a terminal illness and who has refused treatments that would merely prolong a potentially very painful and debilitating death might want the process of dying to be hastened and made less painful. The patient might want to take his or her own life before the disease reaches its horrible final stages. Should patients be legally allowed to have help in this endeavor? If suicide itself is not morally wrong, at least in cases like these, is it wrong for another person to directly help bring about the patient’s death? Is it wrong for doctors, a role we naturally associate with healing and the promotion of life, to use their medical expertise to deliberately end a patient’s life if the patient wants this?
