Chemistry M3 Discussion: Everyday Chemical Reactions

Reflect

by idovermani

The different chemical reactions presented in this module are encountered every single day. If you bake, you may have observed that every time baking soda is used, an acidic ingredient (buttermilk, for example) is also present. If you live in an area with hard water, you are familiar with mineral deposits in sinks and bathtubs. If you garden, you know that those shiny new tomato cages will be rusted at seasons end.
Activity

Make a list of all acid-base, precipitation and redox reactions you come across on a normal day. Choose one of them and try to figure out the chemical reaction behind it. Present a 100-150 word summary of your findings to the class, making sure that your posting:
1. Represents a real situation
2. Explains the type of reactions and chemical substances involved
3. Lists the sources you used for research, if any

How did the experience of getting clean from drugs change Melissas idea about her job as a dominatrix?

listen to the following interview as your focus for this final discussion.
http://www.npr.org/2011/07/29/138761734/a-dominatrix-reveals-all-in-whip-smart-memoir

Melissa Febos got started in sex work to pay for a drug habit. At first, she managed the grueling, unsavory work while high on heroin and cocaine, and gained a tremendous sense of confidence, even invincibility in justifying her livelihood as one of the few well-paid acting gigs in New York City. In time, she also became addicted to her job; she eventually joined Addicts Anonymous to help get clean of drugs, but kicking her addiction to sadomasochism was harder.
Why did Melissa become a dominatrix? What are some of the accouterments hanging on the wall in the bondage room?
What was the feminization room? What was the purpose of the room?
What are some of the costumes Melissa wore during her sessions? What are some elements of a typical session?
What kinds of men were clients of the dungeon?
How did the experience of getting clean from drugs change Melissas idea about her job as a dominatrix?
Why does Melissa think that being a dominatrix was misogynistic?
What were the most surprising aspect of this interview?

A&P M3 Discussion – The Skeleton and Joints – week 6

In our last module, we discussed new technologies for repairing skin. This week, find a primary article that discusses new approaches to bone repair. For example, there are instances of electrical fields being used to stimulate bone growth or stems cells being employed for bone repair.
Original Post – Present your outside source(s) and then summarize, in your own words, the current technique you found used to induce bone growth and/or repair. Be sure to cite your source and include a link or copy/paste a direct quotation from the most relevant portion of the source to enable your classmates to view and evaluate the information.
Responses to Classmates’ Entries (at least 2) – Comment on your classmates’ entries. Evaluate the source presented and discuss whether it corroborates your own source. Please keep all responses positive and courteous in order to establish and maintain a supportive environment.

Final Care Coordination Plan DB

Please find attached the previous document

For this assessment, you will evaluate the preliminary care coordination plan you developed in Assessment 1 using best practices found in the literature.
NOTE: You are required to complete this assessment after Assessment 1 is successfully completed.
Care coordination is the process of providing a smooth and seamless transition of care as part of the health continuum. Nurses must be aware of community resources, ethical considerations, policy issues, cultural norms, safety, and the physiological needs of patients. Nurses play a key role in providing the necessary knowledge and communication to ensure seamless transitions of care. They draw upon evidence-based practices to promote health and disease prevention to create a safe environment conducive to improving and maintaining the health of individuals, families, or aggregates within a community. When provided with a plan and the resources to achieve and maintain optimal health, patients benefit from a safe environment conducive to healing and a better quality of life.
This assessment provides an opportunity to research the literature and apply evidence to support what communication, teaching, and learning best practices are needed for a hypothetical patient with a selected health care problem.
You are encouraged to complete the Vila Health: Cultural Competence activity prior to completing this assessment. Completing course activities before submitting your first attempt has been shown to make the difference between basic and proficient assessment.
Demonstration of Proficiency
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:
Competency 1: Adapt care based on patient-centered and person-focused factors.
Design patient-centered health interventions and timelines for a selected health care problem.
Competency 2: Collaborate with patients and family to achieve desired outcomes.
Describe priorities that a care coordinator would establish when discussing the plan with a patient and family member, making changes based upon evidence-based practice.
Competency 3: Create a satisfying patient experience.
Use the literature on evaluation as a guide to compare learning session content with best practices, including how to align teaching sessions to the Healthy People 2030 document.
Competency 4: Defend decisions based on the code of ethics for nursing.
Consider ethical decisions in designing patient-centered health interventions.
Competency 5: Explain how health care policies affect patient-centered care.
Identify relevant health policy implications for the coordination and continuum of care.
Competency 6: Apply professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead patient-centered care.
Apply APA formatting to in-text citations and references, exhibiting nearly flawless adherence to APA format.
Organize content so ideas flow logically with smooth transitions; contains few errors in grammar/punctuation, word choice, and spelling.
Preparation
In this assessment, you will evaluate the preliminary care coordination plan you developed in Assessment 1 using best practices found in the literature.
To prepare for your assessment, you will research the literature on your selected health care problem. You will describe the priorities that a care coordinator would establish when discussing the plan with a patient and family members. You will identify changes to the plan based upon EBP and discuss how the plan includes elements of Healthy People 2030.
Note: Remember that you can submit all, or a portion of, your plan to Smarthinking Tutoring for feedback, before you submit the final version for this assessment. If you plan on using this free service, be mindful of the turnaround time of 2448 hours for receiving feedback.
Instructions
Note: You are required to complete Assessment 1 before this assessment.
For this assessment:
Build on the preliminary plan, developed in Assessment 1, to complete a comprehensive care coordination plan.
Document Format and Length
Build on the preliminary plan document you created in Assessment 1. Your final plan should be a scholarly APA-formatted paper, 57 pages in length, not including title page and reference list.
Supporting Evidence
Support your care coordination plan with peer-reviewed articles, course study resources, and Healthy People 2030 resources. Cite at least three credible sources.
Grading Requirements
The requirements, outlined below, correspond to the grading criteria in the Final Care Coordination Plan Scoring Guide, so be sure to address each point. Read the performance-level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed.

Now that you have read two texts which exemplify naturalism, what are some of the similarities and differences between it (naturalism) and realism (and the texts we read which exemplify realism)?

Now that you have read two texts which exemplify naturalism, what are some of the similarities and differences between it (naturalism) and realism (and the texts we read which exemplify realism)?
Why, given your knowledge of naturalism as a literary school, are these texts and authors (London and Crane) good examples of naturalism?

Dubois and Washington

DuBois and Washington both address the inherent problem of racial discrimination in our country during and after Reconstruction, but they propose radically different views in terms of how people of color should respond to the bigotry and racial hatred directed at them.

Crafting 4-5 sentences to discuss each text, briefly summarize each man’s position in terms of his recommendations to other people of color.

How and why are these texts part of the realism literary movement in American literature?

Orientalism and Heart of Darkness

In Knowing the Oriental
(Links to an external site.)
, Edward Said analyzes an attitude he calls orientalism. Then, in Rule of Darkness: British Literature and Imperialism, 1830-1914, Patrick Brantlinger applies this concept to the novel Heart of Darkness (see Chapters 6 and 9).
In two to three pages (excluding title and reference pages), discuss the application of orientalism to Conrads novel. First, explain in your own words what Said means by orientalism and why he finds it problematic. Then, apply this concept to Heart of Darkness. (If your instructor did not assign Heart of Darkness, you may have to rely on Brantlingers discussion of Heart of Darkness in Chapter 9 of his book.) In what ways does Conrad reflect the British attitude of orientalism toward Africa in Heart of Darkness and in what ways does he challenge such attitudes? Be sure to cite specific passages from the texts to support your interpretation.
