Describe two differences between DNA and RNA.

You can use the textbook, chapter notes, and/or the PowerPoint presentations to find the answers to the questions. You need to write a minimum of one sentence for each answer and scientific nomenclature counts. Answer the questions independently and in your own words and only submit your answers to the questions in your submission. If you include the actual questions in your submission, 3 points will be deducted from your grade.

Do not copy information directly from your textbook, chapters in the textbook, or Internet in your submission. If your Unicheck report states more than 25% matching, you will receive 0 points for your assignment.

1. Describe two differences between DNA and RNA. Describe two differences between transcription and translation.
2. Where does DNA replication take place in a fungus? Where does DNA replication take place in a bacterium?
3. Template strand of DNA: ATAAAGTACGGGCCCAGCATATCGGCCATTCAGCCGTGC. a) Following transcription, what is the total number of codons in the mRNA transcript? b)What codon number is the start codon in this mRNA transcript? b) What codon number is the stop codon in this mRNA transcript? d) Following translation of this mRNA transcript, name the amino acids in order for the protein.
4. What type of horizontal gene transfer is mediated by a bacteriophage?
5. What type of mutation changes a normal codon into a stop codon and stops the synthesis of the protein?
6. Describe the function of restriction endonucleases.
7. What type of DNA is used in genetic engineering that has the advantage of being free of intervening sequences known as introns?
8. Describe the three steps in one cycle of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
9. What is the difference between ex vivo and in vivo gene therapy?
10. What type of analysis can determine hundreds or thousands of genes than can be transcribed in a given tissue on a single chip?

Describe the makeup and use of Performance-Based Assessments?

2 pages:

Week 6 Discussion Questions

INDIVIDUAL POST
1. Please describe the makeup and use of Performance-Based Assessments? In your answer provide examples that illustrate how and when they can be used in the classroom.

JOINT POST
2. Describe the learners for whom you are designing your final project instruction. Share an example of the types of assessment you are using in your project and why you think that is a good evaluation for your learners and for the content you are teaching?

3 pages:

Week 6 Written Assignment ( Assessment or Post-Test for Your Design)
How will you know that your students are learning what you have taught them? In this assignment, you will create a post-test or extensive assessment for your final project. A post test does not have to be a multiple choice test. It can be any of a number of forms of assessment. State and justify the type you are using. Include the lesson or a brief overview of the unit. Next, explain how your test evaluates student performance related to the performance objectives. Be sure to include the following in your write-up:
1. Overview of the Program
2. Learning and/or Performance Objectives
3. Description of how the assessment meets the objectives
4. Assessment (the assessment itself, answer key(s), rubric and any other needed supporting information)
5. You must discuss why you developed this assessment and its appropriateness to your design, using sources and our text to undergird your assertions.
6. You will submit the assessment itself and a 3-5 page paper describing and supporting it.

Surviving Drought and Climate Change:
Lessons from Australia
(Use the videos, above)
This video has a delegation from Los Angeles visit Australia, at the height of a drought in California, in hopes of learning things about mitigating the problems of drought and water shortages. Two states were successful in getting their citizens down to water use of 41 gallons a day, most Americans use well over 1,000 gallons a day.
1. What did you think were the most important measures the citizens of Australia, and their government, did to facilitate water conservation?
2. Given recent issues with Americans politicizing mask wearing and social distancing, do you think U.S. states, such as, California, Arizona, and other western states with water problems, would be able to get widespread compliance instituting water conservation measures, things such as, simply using less water, installing low flow fixtures and toilets, gray water systems, and rain collection tanks?
