What observations did you make during the psychiatric assessment?

To Prepare
Review this weeks Learning Resources. Consider the insights they provide about assessing and diagnosing anxiety, obsessive compulsive, and trauma-related disorders.
Review the Focused SOAP Note template, which you will use to complete this Assignment. There is also a Focused SOAP Note Exemplar provided as a guide for Assignment expectations.
Review the video, Case Study: Dev Cordoba. You will use this case as the basis of this Assignment. In this video, a Walden faculty member is assessing a mock patient. The patient will be represented onscreen as an avatar.
Consider what history would be necessary to collect from this patient.
Consider what interview questions you would need to ask this patient.
The Assignment
Develop a Focused SOAP Note, including your differential diagnosis and critical-thinking process to formulate a primary diagnosis. Incorporate the following into your responses in the template:
Subjective: What details did the patient provide regarding their chief complaint and symptomology to derive your differential diagnosis? What is the duration and severity of their symptoms? How are their symptoms impacting their functioning in life?
Objective: What observations did you make during the psychiatric assessment?
Assessment: Discuss the patients mental status examination results. What were your differential diagnoses? Provide a minimum of three possible diagnoses with supporting evidence, listed in order from highest priority to lowest priority. Compare the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for each differential diagnosis and explain what DSM-5 criteria rules out the differential diagnosis to find an accurate diagnosis. Explain the critical-thinking process that led you to the primary diagnosis you selected. Include pertinent positives and pertinent negatives for the specific patient case.
Plan: What is your plan for psychotherapy? What is your plan for treatment and management, including alternative therapies? Include pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatments, alternative therapies, and follow-up parameters, as well as a rationale for this treatment and management plan. Also incorporate one health promotion activity and one patient education strategy.
Reflection notes: What would you do differently with this patient if you could conduct the session again? Discuss what your next intervention would be if you could follow up with this patient. Also include in your reflection a discussion related to legal/ethical considerations (demonstrate critical thinking beyond confidentiality and consent for treatment!), health promotion, and disease prevention, taking into consideration patient factors (such as age, ethnic group, etc.), PMH, and other risk factors (e.g., socioeconomic, cultural background, etc.).
Provide at least three evidence-based, peer-reviewed journal articles or evidenced-based guidelines that relate to this case to support your diagnostics and differential diagnoses. Be sure they are current (no more than 5 years old).

Why do you think individuals engage in self-mutilation?

When describing Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), a common metaphor often used to describe these individuals is “emotional burnout”. Whereas a burn victim’s skin would be sensitive to touch, an individual with BPD is sensitive to emotions, self-identity, abandonment, and to relationships and they may engage in certain behaviors because of the influence of relationships with others. One of the diagnostic criteria for BPD is recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, threats, or self-mutilating behavior.
Why do you think individuals engage in self-mutilation?
Do you believe this is part of a suicidal attempt and or a way to cope with problems or merely a cry for help? Please explain.

Explain how the CEO and president might better motivate employees to improve performance.

MT302M3-3: Analyze theories of motivation to improve employee performance.
GEL-1.02: Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard English.
GEL-6.02: Incorporate outside research into an original work appropriately.
Introduction: Being able to understand the different types of motivational theories helps leaders to build stronger organizations. It is important to focus on employees motivation to provide a supportive workplace that helps propel employees towards achieving organizational goals.
You read about motivation and were provided an opportunity to practice with motivation concepts. Now you will apply motivation concepts to a work situation. Read the fictional scenario on tab 2, and then address the checklist items provided below in an expository essay.
Scenario (fictional):
The Maple Building Company currently builds large portable offices (i.e., pods) and large retail spaces based on customized plans. The company has been in business 20 years and has prided itself on providing a very competitive salary and excellent benefits and retaining most of their original employees. While they started the company doing creative designs for one-of-a-kind office and retail spaces and even vendor truck interiors, much of the factorys routine work is now done robotically. Although the employees might modify the designs slightly now, they are already in the company computer and ready to produce small modifications when needed. They still need a supervisor and technicians to keep the operations running, and the construction crew who deliver and construct the products on site. There are two leading engineers. One engineer works on high-end corporate headquarters, and the other on large retail chain projects from Maples main offices.
The CEO and president (the co-founders), who were best friends in college, are the ones who meet with prospective corporate clients and negotiate the prices and building parameters. While the company used to construct small business and retail offices and even vendor truck build-outs for lower- to middle-income clients, the clients are now almost exclusively wealthy private clients or corporate titans. The CEO and the company president are beginning to think about retirement. They want to keep the company running, but they cannot understand why the two engineers seem unmotivated when they are receiving such competitive salaries and excellent benefits with 3 weeks vacation a year. Also, the production line has had more problems lately, and the supervisor seems to be coming in late several times a week, as have the technicians. They are worried about the future of the company they built.
Checklist:
Using critical thinking and analysis, you will address the checklist items.
Summarize the problems at the company that are possibly affecting employee motivation and performance.
Analyze motivation theories as provided in your text and learning activities (providing proper attribution) to explain the engineers lack of motivation.
Name the theory or theories.
Define the theory or theories.
Explain how the theory or theories applies/apply to the scenario.

Identify potential prenatal, infant, or toddler events that may have impacted the child’s overall development to date.

For your final project assignment, you will complete the case study of the child you selected. The assignment covers a comprehensive analysis of your child combining all three case studies. You will include a synthesis of your child’s development in the context of child developmental literature and environmental factors. Finally, you will offer recommendations to support your child’s optimal development.
You will be required to review your earlier project work to complete your comprehensive case study. You will be expected to do the following:
Provide a comprehensive review of your child’s development through the stages of infancy/toddlerhood, preschool, and early elementary (age 8 years).
Identify potential prenatal, infant, or toddler events that may have impacted the child’s overall development to date.
Describe and analyze the major influences that impacted the child’s development, which may include culture, parenting, socioeconomic status, and social systems.
Analyze the potential impact that environmental factors may have had on the child.
Reflect on the ethical and professional practices related to this case study and describe any assessment partnerships with families or colleagues that may be needed. Review the Code of Ethics for Minnesota Teachers and the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment, linked in the Resources.
Provide a review of related literature that you utilized throughout the project to support your work. You may include the references that you cited in earlier assignments.
Provide suggestions or best practices to support optimal development of your child. Utilize research or your professional experience to offer suggestions.
Your comprehensive analysis, which includes a literature review, synthesis, and recommendations, should be an additional five pages (approximately).
