1. Think about a time that you felt pain. How do you understand that experience differently now that you have read about pain and how it is measured? What physiological components might have been involved in your experience of pain?
2. Compare and contrast biomedical and cognitive therapies used to treat pain. Name two kinds of biomedical and cognitive therapies. What pain experiences does each kind of therapy seem to treat best?
You must add on or response to the following post with new knowledge. You can answer with the source of your choice.
3. I have a high tolerance for pain and thought the smiling faces where quite humorous for measuring it. The last time I felt pain was recently, which was caused by acute diverticulitis. I no longer find the visual and numerical rating scales for measuring pain as humorous or think of it as childish. I understand the subjective nature of pain. The physiological experience that might have been involve were more of signals traveling from my peripheral nerve fibers to the spinal cord, and from there to the thalamus which relayed the pain message to my cerebral cortex. This sensory information was integrated with my emotional and cognitive state which elicited me to seek medical attention immediately.
As a young elder middle class black female, my experience to pain was not shaped by the meanings that were attached to my age, gender, culture, or religion. Straub, 2019 cautions the generalizing about group differences because not everyone conforms to behavioral norms to the same degree. My pain behaviors are taking prescribed medication to relieve the pain or whatever medical treatment is necessary.

Discussion: The Growing Divide

Students must submit at least two posts for each weekly discussion. Your first post is due no later than 10pm on Wednesday, must answer one of the following questions, and be at least 250 words in length. Your second and any subsequent posts must respond to a classmate’s post on a different document. Second posts must be submitted no later than 12pm on Saturday and must be at least 150 words in length. You are encouraged to submit more than the required two posts as doing so will enrich the discussion. THE RIGHT TO HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEATH (Medical assistance in Dying)

HEALTH POLICY RESEARCH PAPER PART II:
CRITICAL ANALYSIS & SUGGESTIONS FOR CHANGE:
In Part II of this assignment, students will write a critical analysis of the policy they have discussed in
Part I. Students will indicate its effectiveness in meeting its desired outcome, gaps or weaknesses in the
policy, and suggestions for change. Specifically, Part II will include the following:
Title Page: Please include a title page with the title you used in Part I (unless you were advised to
revise it), your name and student number, and due date.
Introduction: Provide an introduction in which you present a condensed version of the description and
background that you completed for Part I. This should include the most important points about the
policys development, its purpose, etc. The length of your introduction should be approximately 250
words.
Critical analysis & Suggestions for Change: This is the core of your paper. Using scholarly literature,
analyze the policy and provide suggestions towards its improvement. As you do so, consider the
following questions: Does the policy address the issue it is meant to address? Does it meet the needs of
the population it is meant to serve? What effect has it had on peoples access to healthcare in Canada
and / or to population health outcomes? What are some of its unintended consequences? Are there Page 6 of 19
people who are hurt by this policy? etc. Drawing from the scholarly (i.e. peer-reviewed) or grey (i.e.
from government documents or reports, think tanks, etc.) literature, indicate critiques (positive and
negative) that have already been directed at the policy. If possible, try to incorporate references that
both support and counter the policy, etc.
In addition, being as specific as possible, identify ways in which the policy can be improved to better
meet its intended goals (i.e. to better increase access to healthcare for its intended population; or result
in better population health outcomes; or protect vulnerable members of society, etc.). Students are
encouraged to include examples of other jurisdictions where alternate or revised policy has been
successfully implemented (for example, in Europe, the UK, the US, etc). Students must identify specific
ways in which these changes can be introduced. This section of your paper should be between 750-
1000 words, 1250 words maximum.
Note: It is essential to be specific and provide examples in this assignment. Stating the
government should do something is not an adequate suggestion for improvement.
Conclusion: Write a brief conclusion to summarize your main points.
Reference List: provide a complete reference for any sources used, in proper APA format.
Length: Your Health Policy Assignment, Part II should be between approximately 1250 1500 words,
maximum 1750 words, Times New Roman 12 font, double-spaced.
