Title
Write an essay of at least 3 pages in which you describe your world, perfect or not, in response to Ernest Callenbachs Ecotopia. Name and describe your place, who is in charge, what it looks like. Discuss at least three social behaviors, economic rules, customs/traditions, and/or laws in your world as compared to Callenbachs. Are they similar? Different? Be specific. Even though your place can be fictional, still use concrete details and names, even if you make them up. Some subjects to consider are as follows: communication, entertainment, employment, environmentalism, transportation, technology, war, fashion, sex, education, politics, energy, sports, religion . . . and so on. Incorporate and cite at least five paraphrases or quotes from the novel: Quote (Callenbach 87).
Thesis support needs to include ONE essay from any chapter in the SL book, five cited quotes from the novel Ecotopia, plus three other researched sources. As a result, there will be a minimum five listings on your Works Cited page because you can add all the SL book information to your one selected SL entry (See example below under Works Cited). Follow the 2016 MLA format and/or Purdue OWL. Remember, each Work Cited entry must be mentioned in the content of your essay. Of course, you will receive +2 bonus points for each additional Work Cited entry done correctly (six points max). We all have values and it is often difficult not to allow these values to interfere with our judgement and decisions. Yet, as a human services professional, we have to find a way to keep our values in check and not place them on the people we serve.
1. Review the vignette on Family Values, and respond to the questions below.
The Divorce, the client (Janice) has decided to leave her husband and get a divorce. She tells her counselor (Gary) that she doesnt want to work on her marriage anymore. Janice says that she is tired of her husbands anger and moods. The counselor responds: I hate to hear that. What about your kids? Who will be the advocate for them? She says, If I am happy, they will be happy. I will take care of my kids. The counselor concludes by asking, Is divorce the best way to take care of your children? It is clear that the counselor has an agenda for the client. The counselors focus is on the welfare of her children. The client feels misunderstood and does not think the counselor is helping her.
Put yourself in this situation with a client similar to Janice. Assume that your client is experiencing a great deal of ambivalence about getting a divorce, even though she tells you she is convinced that her marital situation is hopeless. She pleads with you to tell her whether she should remain married or get a divorce.
