Family Studies: Self-reflection research paper

Please read all of the files (instruction & rubrics) throughly.

These are all included in the instruction that I uploaded but I figured I would add some of the things in here that are important.

-Each example must be supported by research from your text or a peer-reviewed research journal and include an in-text citation. DO NOT use other textbooks as those cannot be verified. Our TAs will be checking all sources using the UBC library, so please use the UBC library to find any source outside your textbook. That is why it is there.
-You need a minimum of five sources (One can be your textbook and you can use multiple pieces of research from your textbook, but then you still need four other sources [peer-reviewed articles]).
– the textbook is called “Lifespan Development in Context” a topical approach by Tara. L Luther

In May 2012, a YOUTUBE video of a verbal altercation between a North Carolina social studies teacher and several of her students went viral and became a leading story in many national media outlets. The teacher, Tonya Dixon-Neely, had included a “fact of the day” on the board that reported on a recent news story that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney had bullied a prep school classmate in the 1960s. Several students began questioning whether President Obama had ever bullied anyone, which prompted Dixon-Neely to demand that the students stop disrespecting the President. At that point, the conversation devolved into a shouting match between Dixon-Neely and her students, which was recorded and promptly uploaded to YouTube (Troop, 2012). In the days that followed, conservative pundits across the United States used the video to assail Dixon-Neely’s actions, as well as justify their preexisting beliefs that American public education is a bastion of liberal thought. Dixon-Neely was suspended without pay by her school district, although she was ultimately reinstated the following academic year provided that she completed a monitored growth plan in response to her actions (Jackson, 2012).In May 2012, a YOUTUBE video of a verbal altercation between a North Carolina social studies teacher and several of her students went viral and became a leading story in many national media outlets. Cybercrime and Security

Read the following scenario and use it as the basis for your answers to the associated essay questions:

Scenario

You are an information system security professional for CCS International, a company that provides IT personnel for a variety of government and private contracts. The organization to which you are currently contracted hires a new chief security officer (CSO) after the previous CSO retires. Although the new CSO is in charge of security for the organization’s data assets, networks, and computer systems, her background and most recent experience is in physical security, and she knows very little about information security. Your manager explains that you have been assigned the task of preparing an information brief for the new CSO, which will provide her with the basics of cyber security, acquaints her with the current threats facing your organization’s data infrastructure, and the legal issues related to protecting the enterprise. Prepare a slide presentation covering (at a minimum) the following topics:

What is cyber security, and what are some of its key concepts?

What are the most significant threats to your data, and what are some of the root causes of those threats?

Are cyber criminals a real danger to your enterprise? Why or why not?

What is risk management, and how can the risk management process help you protect your infrastructure and data?

What are some computer security best practices that you would recommend, and how will they help protect your IT assets?

If your organization does become a victim of a cyber-crime or a security incident, how will you respond? What types of evidence would be important to your investigation, and how would they be used?
What would law enforcement’s role be in your incident response plan?
Are there any laws at the local, state, federal, or even international level that protect your organization by imposing penalties on cyber criminals?
Provide at least one example of a cyber-crime court case, and explain both its outcome and its significance.

What do you need from the CSO to best protect your organization? Justify your requests.
Assignment

Prepare a 15- to 20-slide presentation addressing the scenario and covering the topics above. Ensure that you create a title slide for your presentation (not included in the 15- to 20-slide count) displaying your name, the course title, and the date of submission. You also need a References slide (not included in the 15- to 20-slide count) that should match your citations on your slides. Be sure to use a background and fonts appropriate for your meeting with the CSO.

Prepare a script to go along with the slide presentation that could be read to provide an in-depth discussion of the topics highlighted on the slides. Research the topics above, using your textbook, information provided in class, and resources provided by the UMGC library or textbooks from previous courses. Your script should be written in an academic format, should be logically organized (e.g., introduction, body, and conclusion), and should include the following:

a cover page with your name, the course title, and the date of submission
an introductory section that explains the purpose of the presentation
the body of the paper, addressing the topics discussed in your slides
a conclusion section that summarizes your discussions
a References page in which you reference the text or other sources, which must be properly documented and cited, using APA formatting
The script must be a minimum of 10 double-spaced, computer-generated pages in length, using a 12-point font, with 1-inch page margins (top, bottom, right, and left). There must also be a cover page and a References page; these two pages will not count toward the required page total.Read the following scenario and use it as the basis for your answers to the associated essay questions:

I know that the script is a lot but anything within 5 to 6 pages explaining what is on the slides is more than enough.

Analyze a Poem or Poems

Compare poems: Chose two or more poems that you think can be meaningfully compared. Either they are thematically similar (i.e. Kay Ryan’s Drops in a Bucket,’ and Jorie Graham’s ‘Praver both think about human experience), or, they are different from each other in an interesting way (i.e. Randall Jarrell
200 Kouman ower ten both considered Confessional poets, but they have little in common in their poetry).
A thesis statement might sound like:
“Although on the surface, Philip Levine’s What Work Is’ and Ai’s poem ‘Factory’ seem to share concerns, in reality, their goals as poems could not be more different.”
or,
“Although Ralegh’s reply to Marlowe in ‘The Nymph Replies to the Shepherd’ is more politically satisfying, Marlowe is still the superior poet.”

Please remember the following things:
Your essay should be double-spaced and in a simple (e.g. Times New Roman) 12-point font.
This essay needs to be 4-6 pages long.
Proofread your essay (for errors of spelling, punctuation, grammar) before vou hand it in.
For all matters of style, citation and attribution, please follow MLA Style, summarized in, e.g. Diana Hacker, A Pocket Style Manual or other MLA citation resource.
Your essay will likely be an exercise in close reading and the presentation of supporting evidence via supplemental materials (academic articles, book excerpts, contemporaneous documents).
Your discussion will probably (1) make an assertion, (2) use direct quotation of the piece under consideration, (3) indicate what supplemental materials say that illuminate your point, and (4) conclude by restating your thesis and present your concluding remarks.

Documentation Essay

Part I (4 to 5 pages) will deal with only the stories and a biography and is worth 10 %
Part I will have an introduction that will state what will be followed in Part II
using at least three of the following stories and the biography, show how the character(s) from Hemingway’s “Hills like White Elephants”, Chekhov’s “Rothschild’s Fiddle”, or “The Huntsman” and or Staple’s “A Brother Murder” and at least three people from our society who refused to see the truth and the consequences they suffered. Part I deals with the stories and the biography; You are not comparing and contrasting any of the characters to anyone in today’s society. Your essay should show how the stories’ characters and people (celebrities, businessmen, athletes, politician, coaches and criminals) from today’s society follow their personal ethics (rules), how they refused to see the truth and the consequences they suffered. The claim is that they will suffer consequences when they refuse to see the truth. The warrant is that we know the effect this claim has on the characters in fiction and people from our society; nevertheless, we go on making the same mistake.
You will need to use in-text citations — direct quotes and paraphrasing. Remember, each of your citations should be followed by an explanation that explains an aspect of the claim and have the appropriate transitions. If you do not have the explanation, your essay will just be retelling the story or giving a plot summary.
Please note: Your essay must show the truth that the character(s) should know or recognized and the consequences they incur by refusing to embrace that truth from at least two stories by Chekhov or one each from Chekhov, Hemingway and Staple’s) that we discussed in class. If you do not develop this claim, your essay will receive a failing grade. If the section dealing with the stories is not at least four pages, your essay will receive a failing grade.
You will need to cite at least three different articles for each person that you are researching from the MONTGOMERY COLLEGE Library Data Base ProQuest Newspaper. Please Note: The Newspapers from ProQuest Newspaper only include – The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Baltimore Sun, The Wall Street Journal and The Christian Science Monitor. Articles from any other sources will result in your paper getting a failing grade.
If you are unable to find articles to support and document the claim, you will have to choose another subject (person) to research. Please check with me to make sure the articles you are using meet the criteria discussed in class.
Your paper will receive a failing grade if any of the following requirements is not met:
Articles from the Montgomery College Library Data Base ProQuest Newspaper: The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Baltimore Sun, The Wall Street Journal and The Christian Science Monitor.

2. Dr. Nicole Allen briefly discusses her rhetorical analyses of the Pussy Riot protests in Russia in the 2010’s. After skimming the article, apply Bitzer’s rhetorical situation to her texts. (Article Attached to order).
Remember you are reframing the texts that Dr. Allen analyzed, you are NOT analyzing Dr. Allen’s report as it’s own text.
a. What is the exigence she identifies in the paper for conducting the analysis?
b. What texts does she analyze?
c. Who is/are the audience(s) of the texts?
