Instructions for Excel Assignment / Matrix
Create an Evaluation Matrix Chart in Excel that will let you compare the 3 careers/positions at technology companies side by side on each criterion.
What should be in the matrix are the
the 3 technology careers/positions (i.e., system analysis, software engineer, help desk technician) to evaluate, the 5 criteria to be used, and how you personally weigh each criterion. Divide 100 points among the criteria, with the highest number of points going to the most important criteria for you.
Rate the 3 careers/positions on how well they meet the criteria. (Rank by giving a score from 1 to 100)
Total the ratings to get a raw score to show which career/position scored the best.
Compute the weighted score by multiplying the weight you assigned times the rating you gave for a criteria
Sum up the weighted scores to determine the highest score; thus the better career/position.
Watch the videos below for guidance. Additional Resources are available under the GCFLearnFree.org section.
Do not forget to record your sources.

Rate CriteriaRate Criteria
Based on your research, rate each career on each criterion (on a scale of 1 to 100). Again, refer to the presentation about creating an evaluation matrix if needed. After you have rated your careers, create Excel formulas to calculate weighted scores using a mixed cell reference. This will enable you to see which career scored best with the raw scores and then which career scored best with the weighted scores.
