Major Religions of the
Assigned Culture
·
Discuss basic religion demographics and statistics. Mention
all religions practiced and include the percent of population that practices for
each religion.

Choose one religion and discuss how food is used as a symbol
of the religion and how the food is used in religious ceremonies or religious
events.

Part B: Cultural
Foodways, Nutrition Guide and Health Status (75 points):
Common Foods Used by the
Assigned Country’s Culture
·
Discuss staple foods from all major food groups (grains,
fruits, vegetables, proteins & dairy).
·
Discuss common ingredients/small staple items such as
spices, fats, side dishes, sauces, beverages.
·
Identify and describe at least two national dishes, foods eaten
during national holidays, celebrations, prestigious foods, etc.
·
TIP: Cookbooks from specific cultures are wonderful
resources for this information. Reputable blogs can be ok as well.
Nutrition Guidance System
·
Briefly summarize a governmental nutrition guidance system
used in your assigned country. For example, in the United States the main food
guidance systems are Choose MyPlate and the United States Dietary Guidelines.
Start your research with this
link. You can also look up various international Food Pyramids,
see this
link.
·
Include a picture or table of the nutrition guidance system
(make sure it is referenced).
·
If your country is not listed in above links, choose a
guidance system from a nearby country/region that has similar dietary practices
or use an International Guidance System like the World Health Organization.
Nutritional and Health
Status and Historical, Cultural, Social, Political and/or Environmental
Influences on Present Diet
·
Describe and comment on how the food and lifestyle habits of
the population from your assigned country meet or do not meet the food guidance
system discussed in the previous section. You reference this section with a
peer review article that includes valid statistics.
·
Describe whether there have been any recent social/cultural
changes that have influenced food choices, diet, and health overall. For
example, is fast food now available? Has farming practices influenced diet? Is
malnutrition a concern? Influence of politics/war and refugee status?

Discuss specific examples within a historical, social, and
cultural context.
