Review the evidence for prenatal environmental risk factors on development.
Development is defined broadly here and encompasses both physical
development and the development of the brain, cognitive functions and
behaviour. Discuss two examples of possible prenatal environmental risk
factors and provide scientific evidence for each. Explain the relevance of
critical periods in prenatal development and demonstrate through examples
how the effect of prenatal risk factors on development can be dependent on
the exact timing and length of risk exposure.
