Purpose:
The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate the communication, analysis, and source evaluation skills you have been working on all term. You will also demonstrate cultural literacy by exhibiting an understanding of the historical context of slavery and abolitionism in the 19th century United States.
Task:
The task is to write a 4-5 page, typed, double-spaced was trying to appeal to ihis autobiography, and how did he go about was in reaching them? Think about what you know about different parts of American society in the 1820s-1840s.
You must also include a one paragraph comparison to one of the primary sources from Module 7 (not counting the American Yawp, that is a secondary source). How is the argument that Douglass is making similar to or different from the source that you chose?
Essays should contain:
a title (but no separate title page is needed)
a clear thesis statement (usually at the end of your introductory paragraph)
Evidence clearly cited from at least two sources from the course (the Narrative and Module 7 comparison source), but additional sources from the class are welcome
Clear citations of any outside material used to write the essay (sources outside of the regular class content need to be pre-approved by the instructor). Chicago Style is the preferred citation format for History.
