Each of these papers will be in essay form: Introduction, body and conclusion. This means the papers should be at least three paragraphs long.
A brief quote (fully analyzed) is oDiscuss the differences between Native American and European cultures at the time of first contact (1492 to about 1520). What similarities and differences do you seeften the best proof for what you are trying to demonstrate when you’re discussing a text. A brief description of an artwork (and why the points you bring up in the description are relevant) will do. When describing any of the arts, don’t forget the different aspects you read about in the introductory part of Strickland’s book.
Take it easy on the long quotes – long quotes give me proof that people like T.S. Eliot and Sophocles can write, but they don’t help me assess YOUR ability.
By the same token, I’m not interested in what Sparknotes or essaysthatwillfoolyourprofessor.com have to say about the works we read, listen to, etc. If you use any source in any way, you MUST cite it properly.
And repeating what I said in the lectures for class will not tell me much about your thinking.
Never repeat the plot of a story or describe every detail of an artwork; just point to the highlights that will help you make your case. I’ve read and viewed everything I assigned, so I don’t need a recap. I need to be shown just those things you feel relevant.
