Start a new discussion thread based on a quotation from Part 3 of Discover Your True North (pp 179-286) that you find particularly powerful or significant. Discuss why this quotation is powerful or significant for you and how this can help you (or others) as a leader. Remember to end with a concluding question
Example
“Leadership is not about oneself and the ability to attract followers, but about serving others and bringing out the best in them.” (George, 2015, p.181)
This quote is George’s understanding and perspective on servant leadership. It’s vital to me. Everyone has their own leadership path, and they have their own unique perspective on how to use it properly. For servant leadership, some leaders do not recognize its advantages and feel that servant leadership is a devaluation of the leadership image, but this fully meets my requirements for my own future leadership development. I hope I can be a servant leader and contribute in my role with my followers. God is a servant leader. In the world he created, he is the creator of all things, but he can love others as himself. The role of servant leadership is not to demonstrate one’s own worth to followers, but to help others. At work, servant leaders have a relationship with followers that is more partner-oriented than superior. Servant leadership allows followers to perform at their best, and followers create more benefits for the leader. According to Randallj (2007), “Servant leadership affirms human dignity, regulates and criticizes the use of power, and provides an environment of justice” (p.127). People they like value more and ignore some talented people who are not selected by them. This is an unequal treatment and disrespect to these followers. Followers also have the right to get what they deserve. And servant leadership gives all followers the same opportunity to level the playing field. It also gives servant leadership the trust of followers.
Servant leadership’s approach to service does not affect their grasp of power. Followers’ respect for them is not diminished by leaders’ service and equal treatment.
In my opinion, how should servant leaders use any of their powers?
