Briefly describe acid rain. Do you think a command-and-control or market-based regulatory approach would work better to reduce acid rain emissions, and why?

According to our textbook, acid rain is more acidic than normal; appears when releases of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides from utilities, manufacturers, and vehicles combine with water vapor in the air (Lawrence & Weber, 2020). Acid rain is also called acid deposition. Acid rain includes any form of rainfall with acidic elements, such as sulfuric or nitric acid that fall to the earth from the environment in wet or dry form. For example, rain, snow, hail or even dust that is acidic can be acid rain. Acid rain is a particular problem of air contamination. Acid rain has numerous biological impacts, particularly on lakes, streams, wetlands, and other amphibian conditions. Wei et al., (2017) states that acid rain is one of the severest natural environments concerns worldwide.

Command-and-control regulatory approach is where the government instructs companies to meet certain requirements and controls the procedures utilized to accomplish these guidelines (Lawrence & Weber, 2020). Market-based regulatory approach is where the government creates all-purpose goals and allows companies to use the most cost-effective methods possible to achieve them (Lawrence & Weber, 2020). Both approaches have formerly been used by the government, although considering corrosive rain is particularly hard to control, because of its unfavorable results regularly happen far frequently, many miles from the wellspring of the contamination, occasionally across worldwide lines.

In my opinion, a market-based regulatory approach would work better to decrease acid rain emission. It is a suitable methodology to resolve environmentally friendly challenges. Command-and-control approach is a usual approach. Market-based regulatory tools are guidelines that promote performance through market signals. It delivers great flexibility and economic inducements; they can encourage manufacturers to implement new technologies and accelerates to engage in improved results to explain the environmental challenges. I believe it presents a purpose for businesses and extends the fixed standard of ecological quality in a profitable manner. Market-based approach can make businesses more adaptable, accomplish objectives at a lower in general expense, empowers consistent improvement, saves occupations, remunerates ecologically capable while it has less hindrance than command-and-control approach (Harji & Jackson, 2018).

Genesis 19:24 reads, “Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah from the LORD out of the heavens” (New International Bible, 1978/2011). This verse explains that what came down on Sodom and Gemorrah was at first rain, and only then sulfur and fire. In present day times the blend of these components is suggestive of acid rain. As water vanishes, it joins with acidic added substances from vehicle exhaust, plant smokestacks, and coal producing plants during raindrop arrangement to make corrosive downpour. So particularly similarly as Sodom and Gemorrah were hit with downpour and afterward sulfur, we experience, less significantly, corrosive downpour brought about by contamination. One direct move we can make to prevent this from happening is to put resources into clean advances to energize their utilization in creating regions of the planet.
