BIB 314 – Tentative Thesis and Outline Instructions (example outline included)
This “signature assignment tentative thesis and outline” assignment is designed to help you get started on developing a thesis for your signature assignment, to begin outlining your paper to ensure it will prove its claims while meeting the expectations of the assignment, and to enable you to get “early” feedback from the instructor. If you have not already reviewed the full instructions for the signature assignment on Moodle, be sure to do so. While you may change any and all aspects in the final version of the signature assignment compared to what you submit here, giving the broader project some thought and completing this assignment well will help you prepare a better final project. The more detailed and developed your responses are in this assignment, the better feedback you can expect from the instructor, which should help make for a better signature assignment.
For the tentative thesis and outline assignment, you must address the following in no more than one single spaced page:
1. Which of the case studies do you plan to work with in your signature assignment (see list of options in Assignment instructions, they are highlighted in RED on the main assignment instructions)
2. What is your tentative thesis? Be sure that your thesis addresses each of the three main parts that your signature assignment must (pretty sure those are highlighted in yellow, Read all instructions for main assignment tho) Review those separate instructions but note in brief that the signature assignment must address the following:
a. How does the gospel of Matthew present Jesus (must remain in a literary and historical mode of analysis)?
b. How does Matthew’s presentation of Jesus intersect with the case study you will be discussing?
c. What do you think?
3. How do you plan to support or prove your thesis? Offer a brief outline of the key parts of your paper.
4. What two sources (other than the Bible) do you plan to use?
feel free to ask any clarifying questions
