After considering the thinkers and theories( John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and William Godwin) from Chapter One, which do you agree with most and what do you think about the state of the world and human nature: Is the world a cold cruel and indifferent place, or is it a good and meaningful place? Are people basically selfish and insensitive or are they basically unselfish and caring? Does civilization corrupt human nature or does it save us from descending into savagery? And why is it that in the ‘civilized ‘ world we need police, business contracts, laws and locked-doors to protect ourselves from exploitation and violence, but in ‘primitive’ primal societies they don’t need any of these things to live in peace?
