Examine the Implications of the Mind-Body Connection in Promoting Good Health

The interview should be about the power of positive self-talk and action steps.

Create a dialogue that you might ask a health psychologist about the above. All of this is fictitious, but you can create the person that you are talking to.

Your assignment this week is to prepare a fictional interview with the health psychologist that discusses the mind-body connection in promoting good health. This is not a Q & A, so introduce the guest and follow up the responses to get more information. Here is an example of an interview below:
Q: Dr. Smith, what is your view on blood pressure decrease and meditation?
A: Of course, all types of relaxation will result in temporary blood pressure decrease, but not all blood pressure is “made the same.”
Q: What exactly do you mean?
A: There is a systolic and the diastolic blood pressure. The systolic will always increase with exercise, for example, and this is normal. But the diastolic should not be much affected. You also must think of physical issues, such as kidney disease, which would not be helped by meditation but will always need pharmacological treatment.
Make sure that all the responses have scientific bases and not anecdotal or media reports as is the case with many complementary medicine interviews.
In your interview, be sure to include questions/answers concerning the following:
Determine what health psychologists deem as good health.
Discuss the view on mind-body connection from the health psychology perspective.
Discuss some areas of medicine with a clear mind-body connection.
Explain how understanding the mind-body connection may assist people today in promoting good health behaviors. Support your explanation with examples, such as how abdominal breathing addresses the mind-body connection.
Length: 500-600 words
Your case study should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.
