Behavioral and Socioeconomic Determinants in Public Health
In your Intervention Design assignment submission, which is due by the end of the next unit, you will be asked to examine the ways in which socioeconomic determinants contribute to your chosen population health issue and take these into consideration when creating your intervention design. Additionally, behavioral factors of population health are important to consider when designing interventions for public health issues. In this discussion, you will be asked to start researching into these two aspects of your chosen population health issue.
In your initial post, please address the following:
Explain at least two gaps, barriers, or socioeconomic determinants in accessing resources and care for your target population.
How do these contribute to the population health need?
How would the health need be improved if gaps and barriers were mitigated?
What strategies or best-practices do you think could be the most effective in addressing each gap, barrier, or socioeconomic determinant within the context of your potential intervention?
Explain at least two behavioral factors that affect the target population with regard to your chosen health issue.
In what ways do these contribute to the population’s health?
How might the population’s health improve if any negative impacts of the behavioral factors were addressed?
What theories or best-practice do you think could be the most effective in addressing each behavioral factor?

Community Health Forum: HIV/AIDS and STIs
Context
Since its appearance in the United States over 30 years ago, HIV/AIDS has grown to be the most devastating pandemic the world has ever seen. In the United States, there are over 15 million cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) reported annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Public health agencies struggle to control the spread of HIV and other STIs, while also facing new challenges in awareness, attitudes, and funding.

For this discussion use the scenario presented in the Linking Theory to Practice: HIV media piece to help inform your post.
In your initial post, address the following questions:
What, if any, are the current public health ramifications of HIV/AIDS and STIs in the community you are representing?
What individual or interpersonal considerations might public health professionals be likely to overlook in devising interventions to encourage condom use?
What might be some effective social solutions to individual opposition to condom use within communities?
