The topic of the coursework essay is “female riots in urban spaces in the 21st century”. The goal is to find out how modern female riots work, how they are structured/organized and how women organize amongst each other. The main question is how female riots in the 21st century intersect with urban spaces.
Detailed instructions for how the coursework should be written and literature read in the seminar are added. If any of the texts from the literature list are needed, I can provide them.
It is important to return to the original objectives from the seminar.
1. To develop a deeper understanding of how gender intersects and transforms with
the production and experience of urban spaces, historically and under contemporary changes to the global political economy.
2. To increase understanding about how urban spaces are forged, experienced and
negotiated as public/private and/or emancipatory/oppressive and to consider how
the notion of gender intersects with other sociological categories such as class, ethnicity, ‘race’ and life-cycle.
3. To encourage students to reflect critically on different theoretical and methodological approaches to understanding (gendered) urban living.
