Discussion 2
You are an emergency department registration clerk and have been working on your team for three years. Everyone considers you to be a strong leader. You do not have supervisory rank; however, your team respects you, collaborates with you effectively, and even your supervisor has acknowledged your leadership abilities. In the ED, there are often decisions to be made. These include large-scale and small-scale decisions, ranging from administrative to clinical practice in nature, impacting patients and other staff. Your current supervisor is not a strong leader and has no clear decision-making process. Rather, she tends to make decisions as the issues increase in severity (reactionary management).
Relevant to the ED setting: discuss decision-making models and/or problem-solving techniques you believe are important to be shared with your ED team. (You will need to assume a few fictional details to formulate this part of your post – placing yourself in this job role).
Explain your strategy for starting a discussion about decision-making and problem-solving techniques with your supervisor. How will you approach her, and begin the conversation?
How can you share your ideas and abilities, while remaining respectful of the difference in rank?
