Hypothetically, you are the Director of Public Health for a small farming town, Myrtelville county, population 9,000 people. 90% of the residents are farmers. The problem is that current farming is not producing enough products to help feed their population as well as surrounding counties which rely on their crops. Soil erosion and pesticide issues are very problematic. The state is subsidizing the first year of production starting May 2022, but in order to obtain financial help, the decision to go GMO ( Genetically Modified Organisms ) vs. Various types of Naturally grown/Green sustainability farming for food production needs to be made by you.
This information needs to be passed on to your people of Myrtelville county by December 2022 for farming production to begin. Based on your research and the videos/articles provided, your textbook briefly mentions the use of GMO farming, answer the three questions:
1. What type of farming would you, the role of “Public Health Director,” for the county recommend- Natural or GMO use? Give your reason(s) why. I would also like to see a comment regarding either Natural or GMO usage- reason why you did not pick this type.
2. What would be one pro and con of your decision? Have literature to back up both decisions.
3. Provide one restriction you would place on the state, as the Public Health Director in this town, which would help the consumers know what they are ingesting. ie: harmful runoff water, pesticide usage, food labeling are just some examples. I need to see an actual plan of attack because this is what Public Health worker do!
