Is Diabetes The New Now? (Title)

Thesis: The health issue that I am proposing that I study is diabetes. There are two types of diabetes and
that includes Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes usually occurs within your
childhood and teenage years of life. Also, while having an encounter with this disease there is
damage to the pancreas which results in little to none production of insulin. Type 2 diabetes
however occurs when your blood glucose, “blood sugar” is too high and can happen later on in
life once you reach adulthood. Diabetes has impacted many people within the country and
continues to be a growing topic but doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Millions of people
suffer from this disease and lack the knowledge of their condition. The growing cases in diabetes
should bring attention to societies to examine the insufficient effort that is put forward to provide
educational programs for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
Healthy People 2020/2030
There are many diseases that are discussed on Healthy People 2020/2030 with a clear objective
to improve health and well-being of humans in the next decade. The disease that caught my
attention the most was diabetes. Diabetes is an ongoing disease that is commonly overlooked due
to it not being a topic that is not talked about so often. This topic has peaked an interest in me
due to having family members diagnosed with it and not knowing how to properly treat/care for
their health conditions. Since, their is an ongoing need of research for this topic I decided to
obtain and gather information from Healthy People 2020/2030. I thought that with obtaining
information from this source I would have a better understanding and the people that suffer from
the disease have a better understanding of diabetes. In my opinion, diabetes is a major public
health issue and there is a serious need to improve cases with diabetes.
Approach to the Subject of the Paper
Is Diabetes The New Now? 3
When formatting my paper it will require an abundant amount of planning. I plan to show
opposing viewpoints regarding whether or not getting educational services for diabetic people. I
do tend to compare and contrast the two different types of diabetes. I think this will clear things
up better because a lot of people don’t know the difference. I’m not entirely sure if I want to
discuss the plusses and minuses of different platforms that perform similar functions because
some evidence could be too similar in a sense. Also, I believe if I can add some statistical data
like results from a pie graph or bar graph it will kind of tie the paper together.
Intended Audience/ Sources
Since my topic is diabetes my target audience would be for adults that suffer from the disease,
concerned family members, and probably teenagers. Having these people as my audience will be
beneficial because they are the ones that relate to the topic more. Also, I think that since it’s so
common for these groups it will be easier to catch their attention. As for sources I think that I’m
going to use three internet sources and for the other half I might either go for a public health
journal or my textbook. When interpreting these sources in my paper I’m going to pick out only
the most important information because I don’t want the whole paper to be filled with non
relevant information.
