______/25 Introduction/summary: Begins with their topic and introduces the article
(including author(s). Summarizes article by reiterating the author’s main points,
using in text citations for direct quotes. Summary is mostly in student’s own
words (uses direct quotes sparingly).
______/25 Commentary: Paper makes sense and uses good sentence structure and diction in
meaningful ways; Student explains how the topic of their article integrates with
human growth and development. Student offers their thoughts on the article
(agreement/disagreement with supporting evidence from our textbook, and/or
thoughts on further research)
______/30 Peer review: Student was present and participated in the peer review process by
bringing their rough draft to class and also reading and providing feedback on their
partner’s rough draft.
Feedback should include pointing out any spelling and grammatical errors such as
run-ons, subject/verb agreements, and/or fragments; essay does not contain 1st/2nd
person pronouns, past tense verb usage (except bio), tense changes, or contractions
Students should also provide feedback on the flow of the article: Is the summary of
the article done well? Is there a good transition between points made in the article
and how they relate to the concepts we’ve learned in class? Are there too many
quotations (Summary is mostly in student’s own words (uses direct quotes
sparingly)?
