Literary Analysis with Research for The Yellow WallPaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Remember that texts can only be written about once, so if your first essay analyzed “Everyday Use,” you can’t write another essay on that text; however, keep in mind the comparison option we discussed in class–it is only an OPTION; you do not have to do a comparison analysis if you do not wish to.

This essay should consist of YOUR thoughts on whichever texts(s) you choose to write about, supplemented by outside research that furthers your understanding of the theme/author/time period/politics/etc., and supports your thesis.

This is NOT a SUMMARY. You are writing your thoughts on what we have read and brief summary can be included in your introduction and in body paragraphs where necessary, but the bulk of the essay should be your own thoughts and analysis, and material (summary/paraphrase/quotes) from the research you conducted on your topic and text(s).

You will choose the essay’s focus concerning the text you are analyzing. For example, you can write a character analysis that focuses on a specific character, or characters, in a story. You can explore themes within the text, the life of the author, broader messages applicable outside of the text itself (this is a particularly good choice for this research essay), and comparisons with other works, characters, settings, time periods, and any other aspects of the text we discussed in class.

It should be at least THREE (3) full pages in standard MLA format. It must include citations and a Works Cited page with at least three sources. See the Citation Resources for help with formatting, quoting, etc. Outside sources are required for this assignment and plagiarism will result in a zero on the assignment.
